I have to say though... Avatar did catch the Furry Nation by far. you won't believe the crap I find on FA when I try to load my deployment pics for my fellow military furs.

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D and in a normal theater and while the 3D was cool I honestly thought the effects looked just fine both ways.

You're complaining about Forrest Gump? Really? I mean yeah, it wasn't the greatest movie ever, but it was a good movie.

As much as I love the movie, I think I agree with Rogue. The reason the movie was so amazing was the special effects. Which is also why everyone wthat didnt see it in imax thought it sucked--because the effects make the movie. Granted, I still like the movie, but it could have a better story line, as Rogue said.

And, as Cairoi ponted out, Forresst Gump is a classic. The point of that story was to take you throught the decades and show you what was going on the whole time. He was involved in every major event that happened.

I will say this now... "Avatar" was boring. I watched it on an HD TV on BluRay, and I ooh'd and aah'd with everyone else on the sheer crispness and detail, but after a while it was like watching a really pretty cartoon.

Now, "Avatar" was not bad. I did like it, and I've loved several James Cameron movies in the past (particularly "Terminator 2"). "Titanic" had a rather crappy storyline, but at the time it had top of the line effects and people came just to see that. Recycled or not, I'd rather see his work with a story than just a reel of test animation any day.

Alright, you have wandered into the territory of the beast, my friend. In the following rebuttals, my tone may change into an aggressive one as this is what happens when you discuss movies with me, but I would just like to note that I harbor no ill will to you in any way, shape, or form.

That being said.

My first point is thus: There have been plenty of amazing movies coming out recently. In fact, I would argue that cinema is on the recovering end of one of its worst creative droughts since its initial conception. (God, the mid-2000's got pretty dry there for a while). However, if you want quality movies you can't nessecarily expect them to appear at your doorstep. Services like Netflix are connecting people with independant movies that would normally never get the buzz they're getting now, and that fills with me a lot of hope concerning my future goals. Having said that, I'll address your numbered points.

1. Avatar's plot is not the worst movie plot in the world. Yes, it is recycled, yes, it is rudimentary, and I've said those things myself plenty of times. But the director chose it as a vehicle to demonstrate the world he built. Look no further to other movies like Star Wars and you will see blockbuster movies with monomyth or recycled plots to carry their world into the rather rigid movie form. And now that Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time, few can argue that the movie is bad. It has mass appeal, and thus it is a strong movie. It might not be yours or even my cup of tea, but that doesn't make it bad at all.

2. Are you going to argue with me that Forrest Gump does not have a point? It was a damn EPIC. The movie was an homage to the American spirit of the 20th century, and it captured that subtly and artfully. I can understand disliking the movie but I don't think you contend the movie has a purpose.

3. Iron Man 2 was pretty good, but it definitely had flaws, and bad reviews were not unmerited. The first was definitely better. Robert Downey Jr. gave a great performance but the movie got bogged down in its mythology and sacrificed a lot of elements that made the first movie stand out to create a more action-oriented summer blockbuster.

Alright, So I was reading some of the stuff posted last night regarding recent movies. There have a been a hand full of really good ones. There are some things I must get off my chest though.

Agenda:
1) Avatar is bad. Very Bad. If i wanted to watch Avatar I would watch Pocahontas. Granted the movie was beautifully shot. That being said, The producers spend SO much time making it in 3 Dimensional that none of the characters were. They were all poorly written. which made me kind of sad.

2) I hate Forrest Gump. I felt as if this movie didn't really have a point and that made me incredibly sad. Specifically the part where his mic goes out and you hear nothing he says. That could have been the best part but FAIL!

3) Everyone who gave Iron Man 2 a bad review was dumb. Very dumb
