Thanks!

I'm not sure what I wanna do yet for the Halloween one. I need to get on it, I don't wanna write it the night before again...

I gotta say I really like the end. The whole story has a really nice build up and then it just abruptly ends. To be honest, I kinda wish that it had more but I think that for a ghost story it works well...especially if it is to fuck with people.

Nah, I just made this to mess with the people in my dorm. I'm gonna leave it around the hall and on bulletin boards and stuff xD

I like... but before I make any other comments I would like to ask if you are making this your entry or not?

This is a short ghost story that I wrote and plan to distribute to the people in my dorm (McCarthy Hall) to try and get everyone in the mood for Halloween. Feedback would be appreciated.

As you walk through the corridors of McCarthy Hall, what do you see? College students, RAs, sometimes parents. Maybe an inspirational quote on the whiteboard of some room, a silly inside joke on another. Some doors are decorated creatively. Some aren’t decorated at all. Some are always open, encouraging visitors. If one were so inclined to walk through McCarthy Hall, one would see all of this, and probably much more. However, it’s what you wouldn’t see that should concern you most.

You see, there is much more to McCarthy Hall than you, or anyone else, could imagine. There are things that have happened in this building that are too awful for documentation, and students aren’t the only thing living here. Of course, you can take the skeptical approach, and say that there’s no such things as ghosts, spirits, phantoms, whatever you want to call them. This would be foolish. Because one night, you might find yourself walking to the bathroom. It may be very late, and everyone else in your hall may be asleep. And that’s when you’ll see a figure just ahead. You won’t be able to make out exactly what it is, it’ll be just out of your vision. Maybe turning a corner, maybe just too far away to discern its identity. Maybe you forgot to put your glasses on or your contacts in, and you just assume it’s another student having a late night, like yourself.

Maybe, once you’re in the bathroom, you forget about it. On your way back out, maybe you see it again, but clearer this time. A woman, dressed in Victorian clothing, looking gloomily out a window, or making her way somberly down the hall. You might be freaked out, but most likely, you’ll shake it off and tell yourself that it’s your mind or eyes playing tricks on you, or that you’re just sleep deprived. So, you ignore it, think positive, happy thoughts, and go back to your room.

And then, you’ll hear a noise behind you. You’ll turn around, alarmed, but there won’t be anything there. When you turn your attention back to the door, you’ll catch something out of the corner of your eye. You might be shaking a bit at this point, fear getting the best of you. Eventually, of course, you’ll get the door open. Once you open it, what would you do if you saw a face in front of your own? Would you run? Or would you continue into the room? The face, the warm, kind face of a young woman, will be smiling at you. You won't fear her, she seems too genuine and nice. Or, if you're a skeptic, you'll continue to assume it's just an illusion, or trickery. But part of you knows that she’s not. Part of you knows that she was real. But once you're in bed, nice and warm under your covers, you'll be fine. You'll forget all about what you saw and be overcome with thoughts of whatever comforts you in those moments between consciousness and sleep. That part of you hates this moment, because you know that's when she'll come. But logic and reason will win out, and you'll try to sleep.

As you drift off, and you hear that noise outside, you rationalize it and tell yourself that it’s just some drunk students outside having a late night. You’ll think that the mysterious voice that you hear and the ghostly, echoing screams are just your neighbor’s TV. You’ll think that the footsteps that you hear are just the beginning of what could be a great and adventurous dream. You’ll think that the cold chill and sense of foreboding that washes over you is just a result of your roommate leaving the window open.

Maybe you should think again.
