OK, so for the first time in 3 or 4 years I'm seeking out what series I can to burn through in a few days and move on to the next one.

As I've mentioned in a couple threads I just tore through Elfen Lied and Death Note.

Any other series out there on par with those I should look into?

It's mostly for research material for the next Anime Expo. For the past few years that I've been going, I often feel lost as I don't download and YouTube has actually become a saviour for the dweebs like myself who are only browsing with an okay connection.

Time was I had to go down to my local comic shop and rent each DVD for $2 a day. Thankfully TV Links saves me from that.

This thread is also open for other people to request series, but for now I was just wondering what else is out there.

For now I dig the adult stuff (big surprise. I'm just not into the cutesy, little girl anime out there). Any suggestions?

This is all I've been doing lately, blasting through so many series left and right. It's pretty satisfying.

Baccano! for some reason Rogue I think this is just something that you'd totally love, kind of knowing your tastes in film and whatnot. It's only 13 episodes, has some supernatural stuff to it like alchemy, but it's an incredibly interesting anime. The way it plays out is very much like say Pulp Fiction and stuff like that, throughout the 13 episodes it's constantly switching back between different timelines that in the end play a part in the overall story. On top of this there's a huge cast of characters. It sounds crazy and over the top in the way it paces, but it actually works really well and I thought it was amazing. The violence is pretty high and detailed, it's definitely not for the kids. Great characters, some hilarious comedy thrown in, and the way it plays out is just really unique for anime.

Toward The Terra (the new series, 24 episodes) gets my next highest vote simply because it seems to be very very underated. I think I said it in the main anime discussion thread, but in all the anime I've seen this is by far one of the most powerful ones I've seen when it comes to characters and emotion. It does an incredible job at making you feel not only for key characters, but for death's that happen in the background that usually do nothing for us in movies and whatnot. It's very character driven with an OST that actually stands out a lot.

From a review:

The characters and their development are without a doubt the best part of the show. Looking at such an extensive cast, I would never have imagined they could suffer so many changes throughout the series. The two main protagonists, Keith and Jomy (who are first presented as young teenagers), are the best example of this as they both undergo major character development.
They seem to be the two sides of the same coin. Each of them faces a large amount of heavy responsibilities and hardships since their youth to their adulthood. And each choses a different path as they climb to the top. Where one is respected the other is feared, while one created friends the other spawned enemies. Both filled with sorrow and grief for their losses, and yet the bearers of great determination.

Simply put it's the best space opera / adventure like anime I've seen since Crest of the Stars. If you want something like Dune in anime form, this is it.

Above all, those are two I think you'd love.

But I do have to say Black Lagoon is really fun to watch also. It's not something I'd say you have to take totally seriously, since it just revolves around short arcs here and there, but it's just ... really enjoyable! And Revy is by far, the most badass female character in any anime ever. I mean she destroys people like Faye Valentine.

Yeah, um, I'm pretty sure that this was from about a year and a half ago. It's not really a problem, but make sure you watch the dates before you post, Leviathen. :-)

I'm not really going to lock it though, just make sure you look before you post.

Check out the new Guyver or the old one (though it's never finished) for power-ranger like monster slaying or Record of Lodoss War for your classic D&D-ish adventure, complete with enormous dragons and hot elf chicks while keeping a serious tone throughout the series.

They need to give Guyver 2005 a sequel, since there's... obviously so much more material (manga) they could work with. The ending just desperately leaves you wanting more.

I'M TOO LAZY TO READ, THEY MUST ANIMATE IT!

It's better than when they went on permanent hiatus with the previous series/manga right after a huge event, it had absolutely no closure, a main enemy finally achieved full power and... Wait, that came out in 2005? Holy crap, I feel old now.
