Well my friend let me borrow the good ol' original Secret of Mana about a week or two ago, and I've pretty much gotten up to the end by now.

Anyone else play these amazing games? I really wish Square would have taken this series farther than it did, and focused on it maybe even more than the Final Fantasy series. They're incredible games.

Secret of Mana is an incredible, real time fighting action RPG with an amazingly deep storyline, and by far has some of the coolest settings I've ever seen in a game. If you haven't played it, and you're a fan of RPG's and old school gaming, I'd highly recommend you give this game a try.

And if you have played it, try out Seiken Densetsu 3. If you thought SoM was fun, you're in for a surprise. SD3 has a better and more fluid battle system, multiple characters to choose from making the storyline played out differently, character classes defining the strength's and weaknesses and granting them magic (again, the classes are choosen by you, thus this game has amazing replay value), and again another very deep storyline.

And seriously, the graphics for SD3 are even better than some PSX RPG's I've played. The music is also top notch.

I'd seriously give both SoM and SD3, probably a 9.9 out of 10.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 9.9 (SD3's magic system was mildly irritating, having to go into a menu all the fucking time), but both are good games.

I haven't played SD3 or Secret of Mana much lately, though. Not easy to play those on a keyboard. Not for me, anyway. I got a gamepad recently, though, so I'll get back to playing them.

I can agree with that. The first time I played SoM was years ago with the keyboard, but now I'm playing the actual game, and yes it's much easier to handle with the SNES controller.

A'ight, then... I think I seriously fucked myself over when I picked my party. (SD3)

So here's my current plan. Duran as a Swordmaster, Hawk as a Nightblade or Rogue (I don't really need multi-target jutsus, since I don't use that sort of thing on random enemies), and Lise as a Starlancer. But wait! Where's the healing? I am NOT making Duran a Lord or Paladin; the whole reason I put him in was for the multitarget Sabers (as well as Moon Saber), and I've gotten past the Ghost Ship, so I don't really wanna start over...

Isn't Rogue the Princess? I'm pretty sure if you take her into the Light classes she'll learn good healing abilities, since she is the big magic user.

Paladin and Duran's light classes are actually not that bad, they have some good magic abilities, can hold a Shield, and are very balanced. The Dark classes for Duran just mainly go off into pure power from what I remember.

I don't know what to say about Hawk, his Ninja magic later in the game is just kind of weird.

It's funny though, I have to say Kevin is one of the best healers. When I first played this game, I obviously wasn't thinking about balance. I picked: Duran, Hawk, and Kevin, the 3 main fighters. But by the end of the game with all the class changes, it wasn't such a bad party, I just did a lot of fighting rather than using magic.

I'd say my favorite party setup would have to be: Duran, Angela, and Kevin. I've always liked Kevin a lot more than Hawk, because he does attack twice just like him, but he's stronger, and at night he turns into a Werewolf and gets insanely strong. And with his good classes, he can learn healing abilities and things like that, while he'll still be very strong.

Umm, no. Rogue is Hawk's Light/Dark class. Lise (or whatever your translation calls her; I've seen other names) is the princess of Rolante. Angela's the big magic user (and another princess, and not in my party), and Carlie's the main healer, though Duran as a Lord and Kevin as a Warrior Monk (I think) get multitarget Heal Light as well.

Woah, that's a lot of mistakes you made.

I'm pretty sure Duran gets Heal as a Paladin.

He does, but it's only single-target. He actually gets it as a Knight, I believe. The Lord gets multitarget Heal LIght, which is better than singletarget.

Sorry, it's been too long since I've played it to remember the Classes in order.

But as for my other post, instead of Rogue I was meaning Angela. She's excellent to have along with 2 fighters.

So Lord is the other Light Class?

Yeah. And since you say you can't remember the classes, I'll do you a favor.

Duran: Fighter -> Knight (Light), Gladiator (Dark) -> Paladin (Light/Light), Lord (Light/Dark), Swordmaster (Dark/Light), Duelist (Dark/Dark)

Hawk: Thief -> Ranger (Light), Ninja (Dark) -> Wanderer (Light/Light), Rogue (Light/Dark), Ninja Master (Dark/Light), Nightblade (Dark/Dark)

Lise: Amazoness (no comment on name) -> Valkyrie (Light), Rune Maiden (Dark) -> Vanadies (Light/Light), Starlancer (Light/Dark), Fenrir Knight (Dark/Light), Dragon Master (Dark/Dark)

Note: Might have FK and DM mixed up

Carlie: Cleric -> Priestess (Light), Enchantress (Dark) -> Bishop (Light/Light), Sage (Light/Dark), Evil Shaman (Dark/Light), Necromancer (Dark/Dark)

Kevin: Grappler -> Monk (Light), Bashkar (Dark) -> God Hand (Light/Light), Warrior Monk (Light/Dark), Death Hand (Dark/Light), Dervish (Dark/Dark)

Angela: Magician -> Sorceress (Light), Delvar (Dark) -> Grand Divina (Light/Light), Arch Mage (Light/Dark), Rune Master (Dark/Light), Magus (Dark/Dark)

... I am NEVER typing a class list like that again.

Thanks ...

I think when I first played, I had:

Duran - Swordmaster
Hawk - Nightblade
Kevin - Warrior Monk

Second time I had ...

Duran - Paladin
Angela - Rune Master
Kevin - God Hand

God Hand is probably one of Kevin's best classes in my opinion, great balance, and great magic.

Don't know why I posted that list, really, but maybe it'll help you out in some way.
