| I visited the Byberry Mental Institue in Philadelphia the other day. Now, this place has been entirely closed down since the 90's, but some of the large buildings got closed down around the 60's up to the 90's. Now. This place was a seed of corruption, at least from all of the urban myths surrounding it. From what I've been told, the place held at one point about 6-7 thousand people over capacity. And from other rumors etc. It is saiod that everyone who was in there was tortured, tortured to death. Now, I left this place with a solid mind, exactly the same way I entered. I had an awkward feeling throughout the whole building, but that could be just because of the asbestos. But the whole decrepit building gave me the creeps, it was too dark, a sinister darkness almost. But I came up with this short ode, or should I say epiphany, since the buildings are being destroyed at some point in the future months.
'Byberry, Your dark, decrepit halls, turns drawing a line of fear and a trail of things past. Corrupt minds took you from a former glory, and send you and your peopl into worlds of pain. Through your halls, I trekked, a pioneer on the front of discovery. A pair of eyes unfamiliar to the womb of darkness you provide. The sounds, sights, and smells brought a new world into my life. In your unbreachable darkness, secrets remain hidden.' Well, yea, It's odd, but it is the best thing I could think of to write about for the building, as a remembrance. As a way to keep track of the history of my life. To remember this step into an unfamiliar place, and to do honor to it, when it is gone. |
