So I just got back from my first job interview. Good news and bad news.

The good news is that I got the job. The bad news is that I most likely will have to turn it down.

Basically, it is a holiday position, which means I'd be working for about 90 days starting next week, until the end of the holiday season. Which means that the time I'll be most needed the week before Christmas. This also happens to be the week that my dad got tickets to Arizona us to visit him mom. I can't take the job if I can't get that week off. I tried to see if I could get the tickets changed to the week after. Even if I could, it would cost several hundred dollars to change the tickets. But chances are that there won't be any seats to switch to. I mean...it's Christmas.

So if I do take the job, then I'll either have to cancel the trip, or use most of the money I make to pay for changing the tickets (since I wouldn't make my dad pay). And if I don't take the job, I can always get one somewhere else or something.

If it was a longer term job, instead of just seasonal, then I might consider changing the trip. But seeing as how there is really no future in it, I will most likely turn it down. Only have a few days to make up my mind though, since orientation is on Sunday.

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Well, you should go to Meryvns and get one of those seasonal jobs. 7.50 and hour. And you are pretty much guaranteed to get the job.

FX. Go to the orientation. Take the job and respectfully tell your manager that you'd love to work, but you simply must see your mom the week before christmas. Talk about how she lives in Arizona and you don't get to see her often. Also, do your damndest at the job, work as hard as possible and then see if they'll let you keep your job after the seasonal time period ends. That's what I did and how I became a regular employee of Gamestop, as well as a possible manager as soon as I turn 18.

Well, it's not my mom, it's my grandma. And that wouldn't really work, the manager clearly said that I he couldn't give me the job if I couldn't work that week. I still plan on calling and just saying:

"Sorry, I'd love to take this job, but I can't reschedule this trip, and seeing my grandmother comes before this job. If it was a more permanent job, I might reconsider. But the situation being as it is, I'll have to re-apply some other time."

Or something along those lines.
