I think that it is good that he swore on the holy book of his religion instead of the Bible, it means more to him then. I don't think we should swear on holy books at all though when taking seats in government positions (you know, that whole seperation of church and state thing?). However if it gives the actual person swearing a greater feeling of responsibility to that oath because he/she is giving it on a symbol of something dear to them then perhaps it does some good.

As for me... well, Wiccans don't really have a universally sacred text. Closest we come is the Wiccan Rede, so I would say that I would choose either the Rede or a Pentacle... because lets face it, swearing on the Principia Discordia to uphold order just seems silly. ... Of couse, there is always the Scott Cunningham book Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practicioner, many Witches revere it as much as if it were our Bible from what I have seen. Show them all the good things so they are forced to see that silver lining. Of course it is also dependant on the reason why they are suicidal. If it is because of some relationship thing it is a lot easier than if it is due to clinical depression or other mental illness. If it is something serious then you should convince them to seek professional help... if it is something minor then be there, listen to them (really listen), and do you best to guide them away from that cliff.

Of couse, if it is someone that just keeps threatening it all the time but would never really do it, then you can show blunt annoyance with them. I've had to do that before, and it did seem to work since it threw them into a shock which got them to realize what they were saying. You know, something like "you're not going to do it and you know it, you're better than that. So quit playing this stupid game and grow the fuck up!" That is what I have for now, if you want to give me more details about it feel free to PM me and then I might be able to give you something more precise.

Anywho, so I've been playing this recently (on venomouslobster's PC since mine can't run it) and I must say that it is gloriously awesome. The graphics haven't really improved all that much from the original game, but the sheer amount of stuff that they have brought in from real D&D is amazing. The items and characters look so much cooler... and there are actually Subraces now! The storyline is interesting so far, I like how there are two paths you can choose depending on if you want to be more good or evil. I also like some of these side quests for your companions, they can be rather fun. So yes, anyone else have any thoughts on the game? (restricted) |

I'm more disturbed by his obession with rape, personally. I only read the first two books of that series though, so yeah.

Up to book nine, Winter's Heart, in the Wheel of Time series. The eigth book was quite interesting, and so far this one is, too. I love the description of Elayne and Aviendah adopting each other as first-sisters, it was very well written. Other than that, I read Murder at Monticello by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown (that's right, a woman and her cat). Long story short, weird shit goes down, people die, and the animals seem to be the smartest ones around and find all the clues. At least I didn't see the whodunnit coming, so the twist was good. Also, I have a bunch of history books to read for my classes. Oh joy, 18th Century prose!
