I guess the fact that I had to Google either of them says something. You know, regarding my age... or whatever.
Anyway, I don't swing that way, but the first one looks all right. Never really had a thing for blonds, I guess. What's the worst name you've ever heard for someone's pet? |

When I worked for a local teachers' union there was an issue over a parent contacting us every day because her daughter's teacher kept calling her daughter by her personal nickname for her. The girl's name... ImUnique.
I. Shit. You. Not. The teacher was calling her Neeky, and the mother was demanding that's HER name for her. Gave your kid a sentence for a name... Do you do newspaper puzzles like the Daily Jumble, crosswords, or Sudoko? |

Originally posted by Elara Well... it's your choice. It's like Rocky Horror. It's an all right movie, but made better with site gags and audience participation. A lot of movies are made better when taken in the context of enjoying them for just how terrible they really are, but too many people took Cloverfield too seriously. Just like Titanic, The English Patient, Armageddon, The Sixth Sense, and to a lesser (or maybe greater?) extent World Trade Center. When all those were big, if you made fun of them, people just thought you had no sense of taste or what have you. Seems like any time I bad-mouthed Cloverfield in its salad days, people thought I was just being a picky bitch about it. ![]() Then again, the converse could be said for my stances on some terrible films out there. I was a HUGE fan of the Mummy franchise and went to see The Scorpion King in theaters. HATED it. Felt my little fandom was ruined for it. Then when it came out on DVD, I went to a friend's house where he and his father were watching it and making little comments about it here and there. Suddenly I was really enjoying it. Learned to love the damn film even. Like I originally implied I guess. It's sometimes not a matter of the film's quality or merit that garners your affection, but rather the circumstances of your seeing it--who you saw it with, things like that. Guaranteed there are A LOT of movies out there that are outstanding if you watch 'em intoxicated. (Last edited by Rogue on 11-22-08 11:15 AM) |

I used to watch a lot of children's cartoons here and there, but now I'm discovering that most of them these days are just awful. I do dig the new Spectacular Spider-man show, though.
But for embarrassing to me? I guess I do watch a few shows geared toward third graders and younger (Arthur, Postcards From Buster, etc), but that's also something that several of my friends do. I guess I just do it out of habit since I used to be BIG on the PBS shows when I was younger: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Ghostwriter, Bill Nye the Science Guy, then other shows as they came along: The Magic School Bus (I LOVED the books when I was a kid), Wishbone, The Puzzle Place, Arthur, etc. Seems like even PBS' kids shows have been dumbed down for even younger kids. Ugh, Sid the Science Kid. Anyway... What are 5 things you like that you don't like to admit to people you first meet? |

If I can choose the person, I'm in for the second one. I guess I could do it if the person they want me to kill is just an all-around baddie as well. ![]() Then again, I could end up on the news if I do the whole fairy princess thing for enough years. I'd be like the Peter Pan guy. Decisions, decisions. Doing anything for Thanksgiving? (Last edited by Rogue on 11-23-08 12:27 PM) |

So I'm still occasionally drifting in and out of that funk I mentioned previously, though I try to not let it get me down.
Woke up this morning and went downstairs to find my cat had thrown up on the floor. Of course I only realized this after I kicked what I thought was a bunched up stocking on the floor, to find it break apart with slightly gooey kitty-kibble pieces going everywhere. And before the week is out I've got to finish two novels and a couple papers for school. Then again I've got the week off. Anyway, the things that have made me happy lately: - Friend's birthday at ridiculously expensive Moroccan restaurant. Brandon, Marty, and Becky got up and danced with the bellydancer and we had 5 courses of great food, followed by going back to Marty and Becky's for Marty's R2D2 birthday cake. - Brandon and I did brass rubbings, something I hadn't done since 7th grade. Then because it was this really foggy London/San Francisco day we went down to the Seal Beach pier to get Coldstone ice cream (Mmmm dark chocolate peppermint ice cream with Oreo mix-in). Walked on the pier eating our ice cream, then spent the rest of the time intimidating seagulls. - Oversized chocolate-chip pumpkin spice cookies (that more closely resemble really soft scones). <3 - Lee's in town!! Went to the Time Travel Mart and walked along the Santa Monica Pier yesterday. - Road trip! I'm really looking forward to getting some hiking done. Yay for Thanksgiving with Brandon's family again. - I'm going to babysit for Kittybob today. Have a little in my pocket before leaving for Arizona on Wednesday. - We got a new refrigerator (as while my parents were out of town, the old one crapped out). |

On my own random tangent...
This week seriously took a crap on what good cheer I might have had left over from counting my blessings and listing a few of them in the Happy Thread. Right now (at 3:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time) I'm sitting in my dad's office, listening to the rain outside and sipping a cup of peppermint green tea. My cat is sitting on the desk next to me, for once not pleading for attention and just hunching down under the lamp on the desk for warmth. I just spent the last few hours driving back and forth to my boyfriend's stalled car that was parked at a gas station. Went to pick him up, in the middle of the night in the pouring rain, had to drive back to get my dad's Triple-A card, drove back, called a tow, had to drive back home to get my dad who had to be on site to sign for the towtruck, drove back, and then dealt with the car getting to my house, unloading it and then taking preventative measures to make sure Brandon and I didn't get sick. Yesterday, spent the better part of my time babysitting my goddaughter, sitting in an emergency room because she might have eaten a tube of Preparation H just before her mother left and I was to start watching her (she's fine, by the way). With the car broken down, I'm not sure how we're going to make the road trip out to Arizona for Thanksgiving. I was REALLY looking forward to this trip, especially in the sense that I need it to take my mind off a few things. Anyway, I'm shivering. Still wearing a slightly damp shirt from being out in the rain. I love the rain and all, but right now it's an enemy rather than a usual ally. Should be helping to clear the atmosphere after our fires, though. That's a plus. I should go read my books that I need finished by next week, with an accompanying paper for the WWII memoir for history class (due Monday). I should also find it in me to get some sleep. Promised Lee I'd do a transit day with him tomorrow, rain or shine. That and if Brandon and I somehow get the car working and are able to get going to Arizona tomorrow night, I gotta drive from here to Quartzsite, AZ. Meh. EDIT: Fixed the car this morning. Trip is back on. Drove Brandon to work, now just waiting for Lee to answer his phone. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 11-26-08 12:48 PM) |

All right, I know a lot of you consider Thanksgiving to be a sham holiday, but it's excuse enough to get out of work and school, travel far and wide to be with people (maybe you love them, maybe not so much), and stuff yourself silly packing in the winter weight early.
Anyway, what are you planning for tomorrow? Yeah I know a lot of you aren't American, but go with it if you will. I mentioned in a few different threads that I'd be driving out to Arizona to spend some time with my boyfriend's family. We'll probably do some hiking and maybe re-visit a few places we've gone already. You? (Last edited by Rogue on 11-26-08 11:01 PM) |

OK, somehow I accidentally posted in this thread and trying to delete my post failed.... so here's a post to make up for that last one. Heh heh... eh.
Am sitting in Brandon's grandma's kitchen after arriving at 6 a.m. It off and on poured on us while we sped down Interstate-10, but we're here now. Uh... more later. (Last edited by Rogue on 11-27-08 12:05 PM) |

I think I'd rather have my own car, but then again with the service I wouldn't have to worry about servicing it, getting it insurance or registration and all of that crap.
Even so, as transit-minded as I can be, having my own car would be a plus. How was your Thanksgiving? |

Yeah, I've been in Arizona all this time and both pieces made top headlines here on Saturday morning.
Seriously... what the hell, people? I'm particularly appalled by the Wal-Mart trampling. And what's more annoying is the people who got all upset because they had to close the store to take care of his body and all that. Stupid, stupid people. |

Well, how about the fact that EVERYONE'S now claiming that the eclipse gave them all their powers? Nathan's came up before the eclipse. As did Arthur's, Angela's, Niki/Jessica's, Sylar's, Bob's, Elle's, Meredith's, Claude's, most of the people in Area 5, and most especially Kinsei. Different eclipse then? Guh. And once again--to the writers: KILL CLAIRE. Write her off just like you do every. body. else. Cut off the finger to save the arm and in turn the whole body. |

If you gain and lose powers with eclipses, wouldn't Kinsei have aged and or turned to dust a LONG time ago?
On a completely different note, it's amusing to me that two of my side characters in our RP converged in the last episode. When Peter and Nathan go looking for the Haitian, he mentions that he's off to fight his brother (who had the power of impenetrable skin). Agwe, Cally's friend, I created to be a brother of the Haitian, while Abel my character I created before the thread went inactive had impenetrable skin. Anyway, several people have written reviews bitching that all the "cool powers" have already been taken. Here's a short list that still haven't shown up on the show: - Elasticity - Multiplicity - Water manipulation - Earth manipulation/Earthquake generation - Weather control - Transfiguration (be it able to transform other things or themselves. Candice could create illusions of her appearance and the area around her, but it wasn't permanent). - Metal manipulation (Jeph Loeb said at Wizard World L.A. this year that Tim Kring wanted to put in a character that had magnetic powers. Loeb asked, "Like Magneto?" Kring answered, "Wha? Who?") - Plant manipulation/generation - Communication with animals - Shield/force field generation - Change objects into pure kinetic energy (Now that would be blatantly stealing from Marvel ![]() - Fate/luck manipulation - Ability to shrink or grow |

I couldn't find a thread on this, but if there is one, oh well.
So the new Wolverine movie is coming out with great anticipation among Marvelverse lovers. Not only is it a prequel, addressing Logan's (or should I say James's?) days as Weapon X but it'll be featuring in their first big screen appearances Deadpool AND Gambit. First picture put out with Taylor Kitsch as Gambit: ![]() Van Wilder star Ryan Reynolds is going to be Merc-with-the-Mouth Deadpool, for those of you who didn't already know. Now that I can finally sit down at a computer and decompress on the topic, here's a short update on Brandon/Zoso's and my Thanksgiving break.
Glad to hear most of you guys had plans and great get-togethers. My apologies to those of you who missed it for work or military service. Unless you prefer what you were doing... then more power to you, I guess. A rundown of my Thanksgiving. We drove through Wednesday night, arriving Thanksgiving morning at Zoso's grandma's house in Chandler (near Phoenix), Arizona at 6 a.m. Got a couple hours of sleep. Preparations and dinner were pretty atypical. I made pudding which we poured on the pumpkin pies for the double layer effect. They turned out pretty well. After dinner Brandon's mom insisted we head up to South Mountain because she thought I'd take some great pictures looking down at city lights of Phoenix. We get up there and there's a lightning storm the next town over, but we're standing in completely clear skies staring at the lightning as it strikes nearby. It was really surreal watching it, standing there at the edge of the cliff. The next few days we hit a few Arizona landmarks (native ruins mostly), had some great Mexican baked goods, visited a Native American trading outpost with a lot of amazing things, and drove this really crazy and narrow dirt road through a canyon area. Surprisingly a store in one of the "authentic" ghosttowns sold the hot sauce I mentioned in a previous thread: ![]() Really wish we could stay longer next month when we go over for Christmas II. |

Good grief, it's a sure-fire sign that Rickrolling has completely jumped the shark. Right along with Chuck Norris.
Still it was funny trying to explain, on Thanksgiving morning, what Rickrolling is to my boyfriend's mom and grandmother who still use phrases like, "I got you moded." |

Yeah, that was at Comic-Con. Don't remember why I didn't go to that panel, but here's another camera shooting it here: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/x-men_movies/x-men_origins_wolverine/news/?a=4882 (Slightly clearer)
Supposedly it's going to officially hit the web on Dec. 12. |

I've been completely out of it for the last week or so. I just went on antibiotics which are making me nauseous and dizzy. It'll be another before I'm off them.
I feel like such a jerk at the same time, bringing Lee over just watching TV and then falling asleep. Seriously, I'm pretty mad at myself about that. Sorry, Lee. ![]() I finally finished one of the two 360 page books I had to read for a class. The other one has a paper on it due Friday morning and I'm only 70 pages in. I'm worried about an appointment I have with a doctor tomorrow. I REALLY hate being a hypochondriac. I can't for the life of me figure out why I've reached the point in my life when I have specify to people that I'm straight AND monogamous, but then receive questioning stares from others as though I were some sort of mutant. Friggin' Rocky people. |

OK... I think I've given up on this show. As a die-hard fan, I will continue watching 'til the end, but I'm finding far less enthusiasm in it.
Since Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander were fired from the show because they were going in a different direction than was originally believed, I have some hope that perhaps it will right itself after the winter hiatus when their names will cease to exist on the show's credits. I dunno... I knew Claire would come out all right, but I was so hoping she really would be done for. The losing-their-powers-because-of-the-eclipse-and-regaining-them-once-it's-over thing was extremely anti-climactic as NO ONE truly took advantage of it in the main storyline. So the Haitian fought his brother? Big freakin' deal. Why didn't ANYONE launch an attack on an "I'm feeling vulnerable" Arthur Petrelli?! What's more I'm really getting tired of all of this pairing bullshit with Sylar. All the shippers are going nuts in the absurd confusion. Is he hot for Mohinder? He killed Mohinder's father. So no. He's courting Maya? Killed Alejandro, so no. He kills Bob and tries to kill Elle for her power. They can't possibly go out!! But they do. They don't. They do? Oh well she's dead. I don't know. I give up. Continuing on the random note from the last post regarding the Haitian's brother, it's still funny to me that they created this character and gave him the name "Baron Samedi," which was a name I was considering for "Agwe," due to its roots in the region's religious beliefs. Agwe being a Haitian water god and Baron Samedi a Haitian vodou-specific figure of Death. Heh. Anyway... they need to write Monica back in. |

Well Littleton, Colorado was known for being a ridiculously peaceful, suburban community. Then Columbine happened.
That is pretty trippy, meeting this guy prior to this. Is it definite that he and these three other people did it, or is it still just alleged? Good grief, though, what the guy wrote on his MySpace about attacking a world of peace, etc. Sounds like a lot of the huge-ego losers I've met. Of course most of those losers could very easily have turned into another school-shooting case because "no one understood them." What a shame. What a waste. |
