But yes, fuck you to teachers that assign a research project and three book analysis papers... how am I to find time to research, do the reading assignments, and read the books for discussion all while working two jobs? On that note, fuck you October and my stubborn desire to work Shipwreck. Sure, schedule changes made sure that I don't lose any of my days at my normal job but now I will go a month without a single day off... either work or school every day... can someone say mental breakdown? |

| Gay marriage was discussed in the VP debate last week. Both Biden and Palin said that they are technically against gay "marriage" but they both agreed that there should be no difference between homosexual unions and heterosexual unions as far as civil rights are concerned. Biden was a bit clearer on this saying that what it is called is more of a religious thing than a secular thing, but on a civil standpoint they should be treated exactly the same (visitation rights, property, ect.).
Honestly, that issue was the only time I didn't hate Palin. I mean, she went with the whole "I feel marriage is only between a man and a woman" crap but she did conceed that they deserve equal rights. See, I can respect that... it's the ones that try to deny gays their rights that I am against. I still don't like the woman though, and I do not think that she would make a good president should McCain win and then kick the bucket... I mean, honestly, how can they attack Obama for his lack of experience with her on the ticket? I have yet to see abortion be discussed at all other than candidate statements on their views, but no talks of legislation or anything like that. I think that mostly it is because the debates started right as Wall Street tanked so now all anyone cares about is the economy... which isn't all bad but they really need to get off of it as well as taxes and the damn war. We've heard their plans on that, I've heard the facts after the debates (which I notice that the republicans get called on more, not to be biased, but it is true), move on to other topics that we need to know about! |

This is so awesome because I finally can gain some independence from my parents and not have to burn so much gas because the place is so much closer to both school and work. | I'm against partial birth abortions, but like Cairoi said I would rather vote for a president that is for all abortion than against it. You do have to keep in mind that just because his personal view is that he is okay with it does not mean that it will become legal just because he is elected. However there is lots of attempts to overturn Roe v. Wade and I will feel better knowing that those attempts will not have the support of the White House, since.. ya know... the president appoints the judges of the Supreme Court.
Also, point of note to you Vulkar. Republicans are against abortion even in the cases you listed, as declared at the convention. They want it banned completely. |

| The issue was brought up in last nights debates, in which Obama clarified his voting "present" on the law in question. The law was to ban LATE TERM abortions (not just "partial birth") in all cases. His reason stated was that he did not support it because it had no clause allowing the late term abortion in cases where the mother's health was in danger. Otherwise he would be in favor of such a bill.
What you are doing Vulkar is twisting the facts. As Rogue stated, the thing that you are talking about is very rare, not the norm and you even stated that you feel that if the mother's life is in danger that abortion should be an option. Obama voted to uphold that, so why are you calling him down on it? Because a biased video told you otherwise? Always, always double check your sources before you believe anything that you are told, especially with online videos and even more so on stuff dealing with presidential candidates. If I had a nickle for every bullshit video I have heard of or seen regarding Obama and McCain I would be rich. |

| A big thing I have noticed with all the pro-prop 8 adds is that ALL of them have been funded by the Knights of Columbus (a Catholic organization). Also that most of it is utter bullshit... they are even claiming chuches will lose their tax exempt status if the bill passes... comeplete lies.
On my personal believes, saying that a gay couple does not have the right to get married or the right to adopt/have children is in effect relgating them to a status of second-class citizenry and that is absolutely wrong. People say that "oh they have civil unions, it's the same thing" but as we have learned in the past seperate is not equal and I feel that is true in all cases. My mother keeps going on about it being unnatural and not in the Bible and all that, yet as I have pointed out to her time after time, how can you make that claim when there is documented evidence of homosexuality since the beginning of recorded history? There were gay people before the Bible was written, before the Torah was written. Jews didn't like it because it was culturally accepted by their oppressors (Egyptians, Greeks, Romans) and so they associated it with them in the list of "things that are bad" and thus the non-acceptance of homosexuality has passed down to us today. But I digress. The United States is supposed to be a free country, we do not have a state religion nor should we. Marriage has long been more of a social/legal thing than a religious thing and the reason that it has become so engrained in the church was because they were usually the legal officials that performed it in the past (Middle Ages, etc). However, how many times have you read about marriages being arranged for the benefit of the families involved? Marriage for love is a very recent thing, and it is precious for that reason. Now, with the myth that marriage is the domain of the church dispelled let us look at it clearly... it is a binding legal contract, basically equivalent to a business merger agreement. That is all that it is. Now, if two people wish to enter into this legal contract, why stop them? If two people have the means to support and raise a child in a loving and nurturing environment, why prevent it? What is so much better about being raised by a penis and a vagina than two of the same set? I have known many people raised by gay parents and they are perfectly fine and feel that they upbringing was no different than that of any of their friends. As for teaching it to them in schools, I think the goal of it is to promote tolerance of it. I don't think that they are going to start any earlier than they should, since children have to reach a certain age before they can understand such a concept as marriage in the first place. But really it is no different than teaching them that some people have different skin color, but that does not make them different from you and me, and that is okay. |

Rough draft is due December 2nd but with all the other crap I can't even get to work reading the sources until November.
