Seriously, no exaggeration, the guy went to a friggin' Civil War re-enactment and couldn't wrap his brain around Americans fighting each other.
In answer to the question, I've been drinking beer more lately, though I don't drink that often these days. It just seems that if I drink too much my stomach hurts, no matter how much I've eaten or what have you. Sucks because I've never actually been drunk before (not that I'd like to be), but I have had several great buzzes in my life. These days, it's actually kinda hard to get buzzed since I usually stop before my stomach hurts too badly. Anyway, for some reason if I just drink beer most of the time it doesn't hurt too badly and I can get a nice buzz if I drink enough. Then again, other than wine and beer, I haven't really had any liquor in the past year. I just haven't felt the urge to drop $6 on a Jager bomb any of the times I've been in bars lately. What's the last movie you got really into, like completely engrossed and desperately wishing for more? |

Re: your spoiler, Xeo:
Spoiler:
In the graphic novel, Ozymandias and his company had been working out how to make teleportation a possible mode of transportation for the rest of the world since Dr. Manhattan proved it could be possible. The problem is they could never perfect it. Every time they would try to teleport something, it exploded on arrival. Secondly, Veidt/Ozymandias' company was working on genetic splicing, hence why he has a giant lynx/tiger/big cat as a pet. In the graphic novel, he has a secret island where he has all these missing scientists, writers, artists, etc that are working on this one big project that he doesn't want anyone to know about. The Comedian, while flying home from a mission, sees the island, discovers what Ozymandias is doing and flips out (he goes to his old archenemy's home, without his mask and spills his guts that something bad is going down, though not saying what). Anyway, what the people were working on isn't really revealed until the end, but it this giant squid/octopus/alien-like monstrosity. Ozymandias reveals that he's teleporting this giant creature to the center of New York City, with the intent that it'll explode on arrival. Nite Owl and Rorschach, of course, fail to stop him and Silk Spectre II and Dr. Manhattan arrive late because the explosion's energy had kept Dr. Manhattan from seeing it in the future. So in short, the giant squid-type thing that Ozymandias just drops on NY, it's chalked up as an alien invasion. NOT as something Dr. Manhattan did as an attack on the U.S. Now with humanity much more concerned with aliens, they cease their battles between each other and unite, just like Ozymandias wanted. It's pretty much the same sort of ending, just now everyone's ganging up on a different person. Definitely read the graphic novel, though. It's got so much that wasn't included in the movie because it would take up too much time and would confuse the hell out of people who don't read comics/understand Alan Moore's insane genius/etc. Oh, and I've sort of said it already, but I absolutely adored that opening montage. As a fan, I could have walked out of the theater right after all of it and would have been absolutely happy. THAT was the religious experience for me. I couldn't stop giggling at so many of the details that were woven into it. Fucking beautiful, Mr. Snyder. The first half of the movie is pretty damn close to the book, then it deviates after that. I still loved it, even as just a movie. EDIT: Did they address the Keene Act in the movie? I know Laurie mentioned it over the dinner, but it might not have been made clear for most people to get. That the Watchmen and all masked vigilantes were told to "hang up their capes" or face jail time. Rorschach was the only one who said 'fuck that' and kept bagging rapists and murderers. My sleep cycle is all fucked up.
Wednesday night I was up 'til 3 a.m. and then got up at 4:30 to write a paper. Went to school at 8 a.m. to cover a conference for the paper. That night went to the Watchmen screening at midnight and got home at 3:30, finally getting to bed at 5. Got up at 7 to write the story on the conference, mailed it in a 11:30. Just stared at the wall for 15 minutes after that. Yay Daylight Savings... *Dies a little inside* |

I was going to have a test in sociology this morning, but just when the teacher was about to tell everyone to put everything away, the emergency alarm went off and the whole building was evacuated.
When we got back to the classroom the professor just dismissed everyone. Ha! For some reason I can't stop feeling dizzy. It's not inner ear. It's not diabetes. My dad and I actually checked my blood sugar, which came up normal. I don't know what it is and it's been going off and on for the last few days. Bad enough that I have random problems with my right arm and leg. Guh!! (Last edited by Rogue on 03-11-09 10:42 AM) |

Originally posted by Elara Oh I definitely used to drink hard liquor, but I haven't really touched the stuff in quite some time. I think the last time I had a shot of Jager was that one time when we ran into Jayarre, Justin, and Jason at the Shorehouse and they were celebrating Jason's 21st. I bought him a shot, which he turned down, and I drank it myself. Even after eating, my stomach hurt after that. But as for getting drunk, I'd never even been buzzed at my own house parties. I did, however, feel really sick after that flaming Dr. Pepper. Like all the carbonation had just gotten to me, as it did Pat. I felt better after standing in the bathroom for a few minutes. The closest I've ever been to just being flat-out drunk was at a friend's party where I'd downed what would have equated to an entire bottle of rum--a whole lot of Tattoo, Sailor Jerry's, and Private Stock--over the course of the night. I still remember everything and wasn't throwing up, but damn if I could ever do that again without getting violently ill these days. It seems once I hit 21, my stomach's tolerance went out the window. My head's fine, but my gut's a pussy. I was quite surprised when I drank a whole big bottle of sangria at Pat's party and didn't get a stomachache out of it. Heh, I was distracted too. Hobbit! Well, probably because I am one already. I mean, I'm short, I go barefoot everywhere, and I have no interest in the lives of the big people. That and we just drink and dance and smoke and laugh and eat and grow things and have a merry old time out in the shire. I do, however, wonder what it would be like to be an oceanid or perhaps a Q or Bajoran (since I would totally fight for the Maquis) on Star Trek. Have you ever been stung by a bee, and if so, how would you describe it felt like? (Last edited by Rogue on 03-09-09 09:18 PM) |

Hahaha! Yeah. That's awesome. So many little things in that to pick and choose from for their brilliant little ironies.
I'm tired of reading idiotic reviews. Especially from people with either fanboy bias or who bitch and moan that they don't get it. |

Ran without stopping, I assume? I think back in high school I was able to go around the track one and half times without needing to stop because I was too tired to keep going or out of breath. That's about 3/8ths of a mile, I reckon.
Yeah, I'm lame. Have you ever been offended by something that didn't apply to you? *Went to a Native American pow wow last weekend. During the dancing, this woman (happened to be Caucasian) next to Brandon and me kept clapping her hands and shouting over the singers, "Heeeeeya ho-ya heeeya hiya hoya!!" We really had no idea what to think of it. |

So slight update about this trainwreck: the second publicist she's hired quit this past week saying they were relying on him to take care of everything at all times. He's been quoted in several publications as saying she's "nuts" and "greedy."
I'm sure the fact that she was trying to sell the video of her giving birth to the octuplets played into it. She still doesn't have all 14 kids with her, as she's not in a better living environment for them. However, her father just put down a large deposit on a house for her in La Habra. It's not the million-dollar house, but it's one that was pretty much paid for with donations from the website she's got. Further updates from other news outlets have been that the other 6 children are not happy with the octuplets at all. Several people who've been to the house are reporting that the kids are much more withdrawn and are very sad. |

Ah, I do remember hearing that.
Other such ideas included women who went out in public without a head-covering of any sort. Such a woman was practically considered "open for business." Personally I think it's all ridiculous, but then again I live in a time when a woman can talk about how many guys she's been with and most people wouldn't blink. |

Well the random disorientation still hasn't gone away. And I'm on deadline again. Score.
I might have to go blind for a day and give my eyes a chance to reboot. I can't remember what I planned to do on Sunday. I know I agreed to do something, but I just can't remember what. Ah well. Oh crap, I have a test in ethics on Monday. ![]() |

Preeeeeeetty.
It's been a really long time since I saw the animated movie, and I don't remember much of it. Hmm, maybe then I'll see it without expectations or anything. Huzzah! |

Yeah, if they'd kept "the squid" it really wouldn't have made much sense as it needs the foundation I mentioned in a spoiler to Xeo.
The hitting-the-button scene happened in the graphic novel, however, when Laurie first hit it in Nite Owl's basement she was looking for a cigarette lighter. That was another odd difference from the graphic novel--the second Silk Spectre doesn't smoke in the movie. Apparently the execs at WB didn't want characters deemed as "good guys" to be smoking and setting a bad example. Hence why Comedian, an obvious asshole, can smoke cigars, but Laurie is deprived of her meth pipe-like tobacco-holder. A few things that were odd: Spoiler:
It isn't explained in the movie how Laurie got the gun to shoot Ozymandias with near the end. In the graphic novel, when Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre II arrive too late to sae New York from the explosion, they are standing among hundreds of bloody corpses. Laurie walks by a cop and you see her looking at his gun in its holster. It's implied that she pockets it and uses it later. Also, there was astonishingly more blood in the movie than in the book. For instance the scene when Laurie and Dan are fighting the "top-knot" street toughs in the alley on the way to see Hollis. They do beat all those guys up on their own, but they didn't really kill anyone, or stab them, or any of that. Or like in the scene with Big Figure trying to get at Rorschach in his cell. Rorschach does tie that guys hands up to make it difficult to get at the lock, but they DO NOT severe his arms off. They cut his neck so he will be dead when they try to cut around him. And lastly, I LOVE that the two Bernards are hugging each other just as the explosion occurs in New York. Oh so deliciously funny to those who read the book. Looking forward to the Black Freighter anime that's coming out. (Last edited by Rogue on 03-17-09 12:48 AM) |

I was just digging through some old tapes looking for something to watch and popped in a recording I did of a first season episode--it was the one when Peter discovers he's the exploding man, Eden kills herself to keep Sylar from taking her power, Niki turns herself into the police to keep Jessica from doing further harm, and Hiro and Ando connect with Isaac.
I watched it, even though I've got season 1 on DVD. Something about it just struck me as magical. Like you felt like even though it's a fiction, maybe you could have a power too. Especially with all the commercials questioning, "Are you on the list?" referring to the list Chandra Suresh hid to keep people from Sylar getting their hands on it. I just felt amped up. |

It's been a while since I've actually bought and used a box a tissues, but when I was a kid and sick, I often did. These days if I've gotta blow my nose or anything I use toilet paper.
It's easier to just keep a roll or two in my room since my parents buy it in bulk at Costco. What are the 5 films you love the most? (Last edited by Rogue on 03-19-09 12:26 PM) |
