So I've been exceedingly bored lately. I've been somewhat glued to the board off and on for the past couple days.
Brandon and I might just go for a walk to the Arby's that's a couple miles away just so we can save the gas and get some exercise. ![]() |

Yeah, I've been to a few of these (Bullwinkle's, Star Trek Experience, etc).
Weird that they'd claim the Balboa Fun Zone is gone. I was there a couple weeks ago. I guess, since it's not what it used to be, it's metaphorically dead? One of the Brown Derby hats actually lives on in Koreatown. It looks ridiculous there. I really wanted to go to that Buckhorn Baths place, but it closed before we got the chance. X_X Farrell's is slowly making a comeback. They just opened a new location in SoCal last year. I love that you can still visit the ruins of the L.A. Zoo. It's a short hike and can make for fun picture opportunities. It's funny that they supposedly had the Lost Dutchman Mine in Tempe when it was believed to be near Apache Junction, Arizona. Yeah, Magic Mountain's definitely not what it used to be. Well, ever since Six Flags came into the picture. So many things in Buena Park are gone these days (Movieland, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Buffalo Bill's, etc), especially all those roadside attractions that used to be around Knott's Berry Farm. Funny that Pacific Ocean Park is closed, yet it was in Zombieland. You can visit the ruins of the Sutro Baths in San Francisco. Pretty cool. |

Cookies are fungal growth that taste grainy, because they ejaculated rainbows extravagantly on xeogaming during preparations for rectal seepage felching while standing on fifty llamas flying over Score's bonus dishwasher. Score nasally protested Indonesian involvement anywhere should Kyrgystan decide, democratically, if Obama will poop daintily on Congressional bickering regarding Ninjas castrating Australopithecan children with rusty cheese-graters or if Xeo will cry urine diamonds from above his vaginal herpes onto Pakistani ambassadors. Kyrgystan officials ruled neither Cookies nor Obama African-American Jones could nuzzle Indonesians; however, Xeo didn't like fornicating loudly because Pakistani nudists bitch about his microscopic phallus flailing frantically in the face of adversity and this monkey. Xeo's decision to refuse tits pictures displeased Xeogaming so much, Score cleaved

Being a bored individual who is frequently distracted using the computer while the TV is on at the same time, more often than I'd like to admit I end up subjecting myself to watching shows I absolutely despise (namely shows that Tyra Banks and other uninteresting celebrities end up on).
Anyway, there are some words and phrases that I have come to hate or at least be really confused as to how they came into existence and have been assimilated into the everyday speak of some people. BABY BUMP -- Are we serious with this? I wrote a long rant years ago regarding the media (and not just the tabloids and celebrity gossip pushers) using this term regarding all of the pregnant starlets out there and their unborn children. While it sounds harmless enough, it also sounds really freaking demeaning. BOOTY TOOCH -- I've been subjected to Tyra's made-up language for way too long and I cannot express how much I hate how she tries to get her models to say "tooch" when referring to a way to present your ass in pictures. This shit is making it into people's everyday speak around here. "THROW UNDER THE BUS" -- You can't watch a reality show (especially Hell's Kitchen where they seem to utter this phrase in EVERY EPISODE) without hearing someone upset and shouting about how they're "getting thrown under the bus" or how they're just not going to "throw someone under the bus like that" (even when they will when this other person has their back turned). ARRRRRRRGH. I hate that phrase so much. Any words you guys hate? (Last edited by Rogue on 10-01-11 04:16 AM) |

Frequently. I think I envy everyone at one point or another for even the most inane things ("I wish I was where that person's standing" or "Damn that guy's near the front of the line. ENVY!!" or "Nobody pays me in Trident Layers |

What a coincidence. A couple nights ago, when I had a mini geek-out about Greek mythology with my parents over dinner, I started talking about how traditional holidays we celebrate are Pagan-based. This sort of spawned from my recent re-watching of The Da Vinci Code, specifically the part where they mentioned Constantine becoming Christian to keep the Christians from wrecking everybody's shit and they adapted Pagan holidays to Christian ones to ease the transition. My mom, the SUPER CATHOLIC, was actually kind of interested.
|
Anyway, I feel your pain. Except it's not my choice of faith, but my lack of it that upsets my mother. I'm agnostic (which is technically Pagan as well since Pagan is anything not Christian, Muslim, or Jewish). It REALLY bothers my mom sometimes. When I was in high school and I'd already stopped going to church, she started saying things like "God bless you" when she meant good-bye (to which I'd answer, "The Force be with you, Mom"). Every now and then I find her crying because she worries for my dad and me not being the same religion as she is (my dad's deist), and since my boyfriend's been living with us for the past 4 years, in my room, this also becomes an issue for her spiritually. For the most part, though, she seems to accept my belief that I don't know who or what is up there or if there is any god at all. Even when I was exploring Buddhism and Taoism (for school-related reasons), she became somewhat supportive and went to a temple and took part in the ceremony with me as part of my assignment for Non-Western Philosophy class. She did have a bit of an issue bowing to a statue of Buddha, but when I explained to her that Buddha's not a god, never declared himself so, and is just the founder of a philosophy, she felt more comfortable with being there. Sorry to take the focus from you. All I can tell you is it's your faith and your life. Your mother loves you, and hopefully she'll come to accept your beliefs. I've had luck explaining to my mom (again, she really is ultra Catholic) what Wicca and Neo-Druidry were by pushing the fact that they are nature-worshiping, empowering religions that DO NOT sacrifice animals and so on.
