Well, if you haven't reached out to Rogue yet then I suggest it since she can fill you in on Filipino culture and answer some of those questions better than the rest of us probably could. That said, I think you are making the right call. Some people really are just that naive and it would probably be a bad idea to confess to someone that is that... well... clueless. Like Sorcha said, it is what it is. I've been on both sides of that mess... not nearly that bad, but enough to know that it blows either way. |

I had a cold my entire first week in Ireland. Trying to hike in the mountains when you cannot breath is NOT fun! At least I wasn't as bad as some of the others that got sick and missed school for a week. |

Nothing is more amusing than answering questions about Thanksgiving and Black Friday from my Irish students. Apparently they think it's what we have instead of Christmas.

But yeah... we had Thanksgiving dinner, which was really good... but we had no pumpkin pie and it was bizarre to me.

Just had yummy chicken and dumplings for dinner and it was so yummy. Nice to have a meal without potatoes in it... one stereotype about Irish food that is totally true is the potato thing. Every. Fucking. Meal!

One thing I posted about on Facebook though which totally wins: Wonderland Whopper... a whopper from Burger King with a crisscut fry and curry on it. Best burger ever from a fast food place.

While driving back from my graduation, he let me drive the rental since I knew where we were going. It was snowing like crazy and the roads were shit because it was Saturday and PennDot apparently forgot that a major storm was coming in (side note: once again, FUCK YOU, PENNDOT!). So as we approach the bridge going over the creek, we hit a slick spot and started to slide. Kinda nerve wracking because I didn't know the car and the bridge was coming up, but not a big deal... I've dealt with similar before. ... except that my father grabbed the fucking wheel. So he starts turning the wheel out of the slide and back onto the road because apparently he has never paid attention to the most BASIC rule of correcting a slide (turn INTO the slide). I am super tensed because I am fighting for control of the car, we are heading into an embankment and the bridge is much closer now. We clip the embankment. But it's all slick, so we literally bounce off, everyone is jostled pretty bad but we are still going. We hit one of those yellow tall cones that are all rubber and designed to slow you down, it slows a bit and swings us to the other side. After sliding and finally getting control of the wheel and turning into the slide, we come to a stop within FIVE FEET of the edge of the bridge in the middle of the intersection right before it. The ride back to the house is in near complete silence besides saying we are changing cars and that Ben's mom is going to drive. I initially take this as a slight on me, but later she said it was because she wanted to give me a break since she's been in slides like that and knows how stressful they are and because she knew my dad would not dare do that shit to her. My mom had an open cup of coffee that spilled all over Ben's mom and spent the ride apologizing and offering to dry clean the coat if need be. My dad is fixating on potential damage to the car. Did I mention we were five feet from going through a guard rail and into a partially frozen yet fast moving and rather large creek? To phrase that better... five feet from potential death! But no, fixate on the car. So we get to the house. The last time that I have been this mad was the day I found out several things about my last boyfriend... basically the cold fury, two steps from murder stage. The damage to the car was minimal. That front lower bumper area... basically the black guard beneath the bumper... that had a small crack in it. That's it. Honestly, given all that happened, I am really impressed with how that car held up.... but that is a tangent. So... I went teacher mode on my dad. I did not yell or scream. I started with telling him to never grab the wheel like that to anyone ever again. He tried to say that I was doing it wrong by turning into the slide and he was trying to get us back on the road. That is when I got a little shrill, but still didn't yell. I explained that not only were you supposed to turn into the slide, but that I think I was more qualified to know what to do since he's never driven in snow like that and I've lived here for the last three years and have more experience than he does! He now won't talk about it, since then he would have to admit he did wrong and say sorry... and he never apologizes. But I did get him to do the head hang of shame with my scolding and periodic asking of "And what do we never do?" What pisses me off is not really that he grabbed the wheel in and of itself... he panicked. I can sort of forgive that. It was the fact that Ben's mom was right, he would not have done that to anyone but me... because I'm the daughter. It doesn't matter than I am nearly 30 or that this happened literally 30 minutes after I had accepted a Master's Degree... he didn't respect me enough as an adult to trust me to handle the situation and then tried to use "you were doing it wrong" as his justification in a tone that was joking and patronizing... like how you explain to a child when they've made a mistake. THAT is why I am mad. Also, fuck you Progressive adjuster for trying to fuck me over on covering my medical treatment. Pennsylvania law states that my insurance will cover me if I am in an accident no matter whose car it is or who is driving. The lady honestly tried to say that because Ben and I were not married yet and it was a rental instead of one of our cars that I was not covered. I made her go talk to my chiropractor since I had to go to work and was not even going to deal with this shit. I know my rights, bitch! Lo and behold, I get a message from her saying disregard the what she said before and I was covered... and that she must have had the wrong policy in front of her. Yes... the wrong policy that still had all of our names and vehicles correctly... sure....

Also than you to Slippery Rock University for giving me the chance to go to Ireland and not spend every dollar I own in the process. You may suck in so many other ways, but for this I can honestly do nothing but be thankful. Also thank you to Dr. Miller for putting up with all of the bullshit from the other student teachers and probably me as well yet never losing your temper once. And for buying us a round of drinks once we got back to New York.

I am happy that my trip to Ireland went so well... a few hickups and a cold early on, but honestly a great experience.
