My mom read some story in there about how Clinton knew all about it and told Vladimir Putin so when Putin would meet with her he had his agents try to find out ahead of time what pin she was going to wear and what it meant.
This piece she wrote for Newsweek explains it a little differently, as though Putin knew without Clinton telling him. She had some brazen pins, like there were ones shaped like Palestinian rocket launchers in there. The main one in the first case was this snake wrapped around a branch because this Iraqi poet called her "an unparalleled snake" when she criticized Saddam Hussein. The pin was also supposed to convey the American Revolution motto, "Don't Tread on Me." It was an unexpectedly interesting exhibit (for the most part, as mentioned). I mean, at first it sounds like something only little, old ladies would be interested in, but there was much more to it than shiny lapel decorations. (Last edited by Rogue on 01-22-13 07:10 PM) |

Not much regularity, but when we got a bottle of Jack Daniel's barbecue sauce for this meatloaf I had made for dinner one night, that shit went on EVERYTHING from then on until the bottle ran out.
The weirdest thing would probably be salmon patties. I HATE those things, and the barbecue sauce made them tolerable. Like you could ignore the texture enough to think you were actually eating a hamburger patty. How did you accomplish your latest goal? |

Depends on the niceness of the stupid person. If they're a jerk, not well. But if they're really sweet, my patience lasts longer.
Thing is, most stupid people I've encountered are also fairly mean and bitchy, so it's harder to hide my aggravation. I'm not great at faking feelings. I get that from my dad. It's why I tell people, "If I don't like you, you'll know," when they ask me. Favorite Greek myth and why? |

Eureka!! I finally found this Ranma 1/2 song I remember being addicted to when I was 8. I never remembered the name of the song, and not knowing Japanese I was never able to look it up.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Now I can listen to this and ease the obsession while I seek out another white whale. |

Fuck getting old and fat.
Not that I was ever particularly thin, but I've definitely gained a lot of weight in the last 10 years. I'd argue I doubled it. All right, time to drag myself out of this funk I've put myself through since graduation and watching my grandmother. Time to get out and walk around again. |

Rewatching the movie, "Fido." I like this movie, but I'm more in love with the concept of zombie domestication in this 1950s fantasy suburbia than with the actual acting or story. | |||

Since it's Jim Morrison's birthday (he would have been 69 had he not died at 27), it's just been all Doors, all the time, all day. And that's fine.

Our Christmas tree is up. It's just not decorated. Should probably get those lights up.
We were going to head out to the high desert to see Brandon's dad, but that will probably have to wait 'til January. |

Huh? When?!
I'm really, REALLY fucking sick of the fuckery. Sure I'm unemployed and fat and society thinks I should be mad about that, and there are wars and mass shootings going on today, which I obviously can't ignore, but why am I not allowed to be jovial in my own life? I'm well-fed, I have a roof over my head, I have a loving boyfriend, it's the holidays, and I want to be fucking happy without getting a dirty look or a snide Facebook comment about not being respectful. Why MUST I post my condolences for people on the other side of the country who will NEVER read my Facebook status? Why MUST I wallow in sorrow? Why MUST I never show a slip of happiness because it's a sign of disrespect? Apparently in order to be taken seriously, I should be angry. This isn't a poor me thread. This is a FUCK YOU IF YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD BE HAVING A SHITTY DAY WHEN SOMEONE ELSE IN THE UNIVERSE IS HAVING ONE thread. But you know what, fuck whatever cunt went and killed a bunch of defenseless kids. When does it end?! (Last edited by Rogue on 12-14-12 05:11 PM) |

Yeah, joking and being ignorant are definitely no-nos.
My thing was all the people who went out of their way to be offended on Friday. I was seeing people getting reamed for innocuous things, like the Facebook page for the PBS kids show Arthur wrote a post that went, "Happy Friday, everyone!" and it was practically a declaration of war on good taste. People were dropping insults on them to show some respect and how dare they say something so overly cheerful when people were dead. Seemed like if anyone posted ANYTHING on Facebook that wasn't a "My deepest condolences..." or "The people of Connecticut are in my thoughts..." or "I was going to write my review of The Hobbit, but not today. No this is a sad day and I want to be respectful..." they were chastised to hell. I have absolutely no beef with people who choose to grieve. I mean, the Aurora thing hit me because the guy was from San Diego and he COULD have done what he did at Comic-Con or somewhere I've been and I felt pretty broken up about it for a week or so. And the Newtown shooting could have happened anywhere, to anyone's children. Same thing with the slashings in China that also happened on Friday, but most failed to mention it. I mean, I'm an empathetic person. I've been known to cry over someone else's pain even if I'd never known them. That Buzzfeed article I posted got me going. It's just that it really grinds my gears when people expect you to be sad or angry about whatever flavor of the month they demand you feel something about and if you don't you're deemed a heartless idiot. Looks like we'll be heading into the desert sooner than expected -- a couple days after Christmas -- although it all depends on when Brandon is able to get new tires.
I love how many people are freaking out about the day after tomorrow. |

The gun control fights are pathetic, mostly because it's sad that it's usually the first thought either side has when something like this happens.
Anyway, as I posted on Facebook, I'm watching Kick-Ass on Spike and it suddenly hit the part when Big Daddy shoots Hit Girl in the chest... Watch if you haven't seen it yet: ... and considering how everyone's walking on eggshells, this programming choice was PRETTY ballsy. I mean, movies are being put off for months for fear that a vague reference might piss someone off (Gangster Squad's release was pushed back because there was a scene involving someone getting shot in a theater). |

Yeah, Brandon and I saw Brave in 3D a couple days ago at the cheap theater.
I liked it, but honestly, it felt more like one of Pixar's middling movies. Not to the emotional masterpiece level of Up, Wall-E, or Toy Story 3 for me. Spoiler:
I kept wondering how she was able to convince the men that the bear was her mother. It was like they just went with it and got upset when it looked like the bear was still a bear and Merida was crying over it. Still, it was good to see them bond and all that while she was a bear. And while I also liked Merida (and I'm glad the story wasn't just her meeting a prince/thief and THAT'S the WHOLE movie), I felt like they were really trying to go, "See! Look! She's an archer and she's not interested in boys! And.. and... she's so far, FAAAAAR removed from those other, WEAKER princesses you all pick on. She rock climbed this ledge and then drank from the WATERFALL. So you like her, right? I mean, you gotta!" They even had to illustrate how her mother was able to boss the men around with a purposeful stare. Even though Mulan was technically not a princess, she apparently follows the princess mythology and therefore she gets marketed with others. I feel like Disney got her the most right -- I mean, while there's a man involved, she doesn't pine after him and there's no romantic leaning, although he seems to dig her at the end. At the same time, she's also a warrior and she saves the day and all of her country. Eh... I guess, at least they made Merida have flaws. She was prideful, impulsive, stubborn, bratty and not ladylike. Makes her more realistic than if she just always knew what to do and was always able to fix the situation. OK.. I just looked up a video on the making of and noticed Kevin McKidd was one of the clan leaders and got stupidly excited while talking to Brandon just now about how they totally should have used most of the cast of Trainspotting (since Kelly McDonald was in that too). And we keep laughing about how Ewan McGregor's character would have to find a really disgusting privy and Ewen Bremner would be one of the suitors and have some really disgusting thing (not necessarily shit) wrapped in a bed sheet that gets splattered on Merida and her parents. ![]() |
