| Happy that the major holiday sales are over
Happy that management seems to finally be listening to us on our useless coworker and moving him out of the department Happy that my coworker Nate got a promotion to Overnight Team Lead... I am sad to see him go since he was the most competent person at the kiosk besides me... but he deserves a better paying position. Happy that a job opening occurred in Kaleb's department for me to apply to... now I just cross my fingers. Happy that I managed to score a three day weekend coming up. I have time to bake now. Happy that Kaleb has proven to be such a caring and compassionate boyfriend. I'm really not used to this. |

Fandoms... well... it is more like the fandoms that keep holding sway. Though, the Wizarding World swept me up again with Fantastic Beasts and the info on Illvermorny School (go Thunderbirds!) The Grand Tour... Kaleb introduced me to Top Gear last year, and while I am not a gear head, I do enjoy cars... and the show itself is rather funny with all the crap they do, so when BBC and the hosts split ways, we naturally tuned in to their new show on Amazon. It's been amusing so far. Dragon Age fandom is still going strong, no surprise there. Pokemon during the height of the Pokemon Go! craze... though I haven't really played since October since there is shit in my area. Since it is the holiday season... which holiday song do you like best/dislike least?

Fuck 2016... just fuck it SO HARD! Glasses snapped in half last week, violently ill on Christmas day, and my aunt just died this morning. The doctors gave her only a few days, and my parents were on the first flight they could get this morning... she passed an hour before the flight. My dad called me while I was at work from the airport when they found out... he ended up having to tell me via text. Only good thing was they let me go home because I was an emotional wreck. I had almost called off work because I broke out in hives this morning... not sure why.

Most of my holiday stuff was on the 18th... Yule party with friends, Xmas party with Kaleb's mom's family... week before that was his dad's family. Christmas Eve I had to work, but Kaleb made steak and lobster for dinner (yay sale prices). Christmas Day we went to his maternal aunt's house... and I was super sick so I felt really bad... we left early because I had a bad case of the chills. It figures that I worked so hard to not get sick during the holiday run that it would hit me on the holiday itself. |

What have you done in 2016 that you have never done before? - Buy a car on my own, got divorced, got allergy shots, had a roommate I wasn't dating (for a bit), watched a cat be put to sleep, have three cats, watch a cat die from grief (sister of the one that was put down) have a stair break under me, sold a car on my own, interviewed in person for a teaching job, see Nightwish in concert, break out in hives, have my own computer chair, spend most of a day walking around downtown Butler hunting pokemon, cook with stoneware, go to the Huntington Library, drink Rose tea, have a layover in Phoenix and Dallas, have tea at a bonfire (still can't believe that worked), ate a Tim Tam slam, ate spam, when to a restaurant in Little Tokyo, had cold brew coffee, went to a haunted house in Pittsburgh, went to Waldameer in Erie, had windows open during winter, dealt with a phone recall, assembled a cat tree, got hand foot and mouth disease. Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year? - Yes, I left. Next year, yeah... I am going to try to cut down on soda consumption and go to gym more. Did anyone close to you give birth? - No one super close, no... most were last year. Did anyone close to you die? - My aunt... same morning as Carrie Fisher. Did anyone close to you get married? - Pat did, and I wish I could have made it to the ceremony, it looked great. Did anyone close to you get divorced? - Just me Where did you travel to in 2016? - Erie for an afternoon, and southern California for a week. Seriously though, less big expenses would be good (divorce, moving, and car are not cheap things). A job that I don't utterly hate would be nice as well. What dates from 2016 will you have etched in your memory, and why? - Feb 7 (day I said I wanted to leave), Feb 10 (day Kaleb and Bret helped me move out), Feb 24 (Nightwish concert), Aug 19 (day divorced finalized), Sept 20 (day we came back from California and Kaleb and I agreed we were openly dating since most people knew... still not sure Ben does), Nov 8 (day the world completely lost it's mind) What was your biggest achievement of the year? - Qualifying for a good car loan, all on my own. Super proud of that. Also getting out of an increasingly toxic relationship and managing to save the underlying friendship that was still good. What was your biggest failure? - Not getting a new job Did you suffer injury or illness? - When don't I injure myself somehow? But besides my general klutziness, I got a childhood illness that now has me taking steroids to get rid of the rash. Great. What was the best thing you bought? - New car. It is nice having piece of mind that it won't fail on me in cold weather, and that new parts won't need to be special ordered because they don't stock them... side note, though, apparently my old car still lives and is serving it's new family well. Whose behavior merited celebration? - Kaleb. His maturity and determination is incredibly admirable. My mother as well, for getting a decade old family feud to finally start healing. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? - The American people. This election cycle was nasty! People on both sides pissed me off with their ignorance and unwillingness to listen to each other... and it's like it just keeps going. I've never seen this country so easily divided and I've never felt so uncomfortable about where we are going. Where did most of your money go? - Rent, car, insurance, trip to California, lawyer, food, gifts. What did you get really, really, really excited about? - Going to LA to visit everyone and seeing how Kaleb would react his first time there. What song will always remind you of 2016? - "Sad Statue" by SOAD and "You're Mine" by Disturbed. (October 31) - Went to my friend Tabby's Halloween party. This year it was Harry Potter theme so I got to bring my wand and kick ass at trivia. (November 24) - Lazed about in the morning and then had a small feast for just me, Kaleb, and the kitties (they got wet food). It was really simple but fun. How did you spend Christmas? (December 25) - Went to Kaleb's aunt's house, which was fun until I started coming down with what turned out to be hand, foot, and mouth disease... nothing kills you day faster than the chills. Still fun overall, but I felt bad for spoiling the day. Did you fall in love in 2016? - Yeah. He made it hard not to by being so sweet. What was your favorite TV show? - Game of Thrones remains king, especially this last season... Last Week Tonight with John Oliver comes in close second. What was your least favorite show of 2016? - Marvel Agents of SHIELD... just not liking this season. I can't even get into it. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? - Kinda... more like intensely annoyed by moreso than hate. It's hard to like incompetent newbies that make more than you do or managers that fuck you over without even blinking. What was the best book you read? - That I haven't read before... I would say "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" just because it was nice to have that little bit of story about how it all turned out, even if it is far from perfect. Plus it through the group out here into a Harry Potter themed year it would seem... and I greatly enjoyed that. What was your greatest musical discovery? - Delain, saw them open for Nightwish and Sonata Arctica... nice band, and the lead singer has a really good voice. What did you want and get? - A divorce and retaining the friendship. To keep my cats. To see so many of my friends on the California trip, to have tea at the Huntington with Lee and Rogue, and for my friends and family to like Kaleb while also not thinking I left Ben for him. What did you want and not get? - A new job, and a less pissy Ben. What was your favorite film of this year? - That is a hard call... but probably going to have to go with Deadpool. It was just too funny. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? - I turned 32. I had to work on my actual birthday, but the Sunday before that my friends and I were able to go to Smokey Bones and have a nice dinner to celebrate. I got some lovely presents and had awesome cake. The sucky thing about having my birthday when I do and working retail is I am pretty much unable to get time off so I don't get to do anything super fun. But after I got off work, Kaleb and I did go down to the Butler Brew Works for a beer, and they put mine on the house when they saw it was my birthday. Ended up having a fun chat with our bartender about Harry Potter, sparked by her Deathly Hallows tattoo and in general having a nice evening. What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying? - IIf my body would stop hurting... back could stay in alignment for one thing. Other than that... I think it would have been nicer if Ben had taken my leaving as a wake-up call to get his shit together like I had hoped. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2016? - Not much difference, really. Still jeans and t-shirts. Tried a few shorter sleeves, but not happy with them. What kept you sane? - Not even going to try and downplay it... Kaleb. He became my best friend by being the person I could talk to that didn't judge, would just let me vent, and then would try to help instead of tearing me down. He became my boyfriend by doing much the same... helping me calm down when I was panicking, making me laugh to snap me out of depression... just caring. Helping me hunt for new jobs when I was about to snap and giving me encouragement whenever he could. This year was so hard, and he helped me so much while asking for nothing in return. It made all the difference. What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most? - Eh... for the sake of putting something, I will say Ryan Reynolds... because, again, Deadpool was awesome. What political issue stirred you the most? - The whole damn election... just too much shit to list. What news story was the most overblown? - The Comey letter right before the election... there was no reason for it, no reason to blow it up like they did... and I really do think it was designed specifically to bait the media and hurt Clinton in the election. Who do you miss? - So many of my friends who are back in California. My family. And my aunt who just passed a few days ago. I kept putting off calling her in the hospital because I didn't want to bother her, and now I am hating myself because I didn't. Did you reconnect with anyone? - Yes, sorta. I reconnected with my friend from high school last year, which I think was my answer last year actually... but I got to hang out and visit with her on my trip in September. We both did a good job of only tearing up a little bit... but it had been over ten years since we'd seen each other face to face so it was great to hang out again. Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2016. - Change is terrifying, and there is no control over what will happen; but sometimes it really is the best thing for you, even if you are scared. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. -I really can't come up with one for me personally... so I turn to the one that I joked was the song for 2016 in general.... Um... I suppose Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities"... I remember in 9th grade the honors language arts class was reading "Great Expectations" and I, not having had the confidence to sign up for honors, read the book on my own. It was good, but overall I was kinda "meh" about it... I just don't care much for first person narration and never have; but right after that in the book was "A Tale of Two Cities" and I plowed through it. The love of classic books started there.
