| Considering my field of work, that's a bit dicey to answer, especially when I was trying to do money management yesterday with a person who has ZERO retention (Trying to add up 10 plus 10: "What's 0 plus 0?" He stares blankly. "What's nothing and nothing?" "6?" "Noo..." "7?" "Nooo... I'm holding up no fingers on this hand, no fingers on this other hand. How many fingers am I holding up?" He stares blankly. "50 cents?" Moving on, "OK, what's 1+1?" He giggles uncomfortably. "Come on, you got this. What's 1 and 1? I'm holding up one finger on this hand and another finger here. How many fingers do you see?" Proudly, "11!")
I have also been asked by a different client looking up YouTube videos how to spell AC/DC. It's adorable at first, but that shit seriously took 10 minutes to resolve. Venting. Anyway, I don't want to call these good people dumb because that's really something I reserve for people who can help it, but are just too goddamn stupid to do so (you know, people who AREN'T clients.) Dumbest thing this week? Hm.. I guess that would be this one anti-vaxxer I heard on NPR upset that vaccinations are starting to be required. She was going on about how she doesn't want her daughter's "beautiful blue eyes" to glaze over and not know her. She was crying. It was absurd. I mean, the fear is over children becoming autistic. She's not describing autism at all. What's more, I HATE that people fear this fake and panicky idea of autism so much they are willing to risk their kids getting mumps, measles, POLIO, for fuck's sake, and more than that SPREADING IT TO OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS. I mean, anti-vaxxers, to me, seem to have an irrational fear of people with developmental disabilities and I find it disgusting. This job makes me have so much less patience for "normal people." | New notebook, new fountain pen plus extra cartridges for it, fancy sticky notes (one set to be a gift for a friend -- hedgehogs and they cost $7 alone), two scented candles (one of them one of those Paddywax author-themed ones they also sell at the Huntington gift shop -- I got Mark Twain: tobacco flower and vanilla-scented), and a monthly planner.
Yeah, I was planning on going out last night, but instead spent the whole evening in writing with my new pen in my new notebook. I'm a sucker for journals. I don't write in most of them, though I miss the time in my life when I would just sit somewhere and drink coffee and write bullshit down. Anyway, back-to-school shopping was a major highlight of every summer. New pens and pencils, new binders. I miss it all. |

| Our room needs cleaning SOOOOOO BAD, but I refuse to use a precious day off to do that kind of work. Nope.
I've got a couple trips coming up next month. The first is a friend's wedding and then Thanksgiving weekend we're running out to Arizona for Brandon's mother's family reunion. At least during the wedding trip we're staying with a dear friend in Palo Alto, whom I always adore seeing. I'm having more anxiety about that trip than the reunion. |

| Just a warning on that... as you get older (particularly once you hit 30), the more hangovers feel like you're about to have a stroke.
Halloween last year, I was at a friend's party and polished off a whole bottle of mint milkshake rum. I didn't get a buzz off it at all, figured I was fine, went to bed. THE NEXT DAY, I was gifted with a two-day hangover. Didn't matter what I ate, I just felt like absolute shit. |

| My concern is if enough people actually do vote for the other similarly less worthy third party candidates and no one reaches 270 electoral votes that the result actually does go to Congress to choose the next president. Congress, being majority Republican, will then elect Trump.
So, yeah, I'm locked. She might not have been my first choice, but there it is. Pissed off with McCain right now. He outright said this week that even if Hillary wins they will NOT approve any Supreme Court justice nominee she puts forth. So we're possibly permanently stuck with only 8 justices? McCain's up for re-election, but Arizona will unlikely vote him out over that. Not kidding about how much I despise Mitch McConnell. He still blamed Obama for the passage of the bill that allows the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia after he goddamn VETOED it and that Republican-controlled Congress over-rode him and suddenly went, "Oh wait! He was right! Why didn't he warn us more?!" In the overused words of their much-beloved Ronald Reagan, "There you go again!" |

| Oh Christ, here we go.
Co-worker shoved a lower functioning client into my van and he fell. She continued to push him in and nearly ran his head into the roof of the van trying to get him in the second time. Eventually she got him in and then tells me he hasn't been changed in two hours. The co-worker who was with me and also witnessed the insanity went and told our boss, who then took the client inside to inspect him. He now has bruises on various parts of his body and scraped elbows. Boss calls me into her office with the two co-workers. The offending one turns to me, glaring and starts going on about how I should not have lied and said she pushed him, on and on and on. I HAVEN'T SAID SHIT YET. She spends the rest of the time telling her side of the story which involves her saying it's our fault because we didn't help her. In retrospect, I should have just taken the client, whom she was trying to foist on us early, and told her she could go. Anyway, fuck that bitch. She was so quick to go cutthroat it made it easier to tell the full truth to my boss later and in my written statement. It's not the first time she's been called in for the way she's treated this client. |
