Holy fuck. I had borrowed - and beaten - this game before I even had a Playstation of my own (I also borrowed the playstation ), but considering how I never saw it in stores even when the Playstation was somewhat new, I didn't think I'd have any chance of finding it now.

Last Friday, I was at Gamestop, a little annoyed because - as often happens - I was a bit short on cash, too little for a new game, and couldn't find any interesting used games. Flipped through the N64 and Playstation piles, didn't see much of particular interest, but then I remembered Lunar. I had been having relatively good luck at this Gamestop with regards to Playstation games - this is the same one that I got Final Fantasy Origins and Final Fantasy Chronicles at in the same day - so I figured I'd ask if they had it. They did, for only $30... which is actually less than I expected...

So in my second playthrough, I just regained the White Dragon Wings. Does anyone else think the Vile Crustacean is a pain in the goddamn ass?

They've done things recently that I wasn't a big fan of (GBA Micro anyone?), but I'm gonna have to go with Nintendo. After all, no matter how many stupid decisions they make now, they still brought us the SNES.

Well, the problem with the Vile Crustacean is that Angel Tears aren't available, and half your damn party is pretty much useless.

Ah well. 300-damage Sword Dance is always nice. That's how I beat it... and how I beat the Bronze Dogs, thanks to an Ice Sword. Mia probably would've been more helpful if she didn't keep dying, but she got Alex to where the attacks didn't even do 20 damage. Have I ever told you how much I love Ice Shell?

Yeah, Xenobia was a pain, too. Oddly, the last boss was easy... Nice and predictable.

Oh, and I also happen to have Lunar 2... I was borrowing it from a somewhat-disliked family member (same one I borrowed Lunar from, long ago), and I haven't seen him in a while.

Something interesting to note about Lunar.. it's the only non-Zelda, non-Tetris, non-Mario game that my mother has ever played, and the only game I know of that she's ever beaten on her own. (I had to kill bosses for her in Ocarina of Time )

Well, if you count inhaling the smoke of others, yes. My grandmother, mother, on occasion stepfather, aunt, great aunt... yeeah, a lot of family members smoke.

But me? Nope. Never will. I have enough breathing problems as it is with my asthma. I'm just now getting that almost completely under control, I am not about to add more problems.


There's also the whole "hey, it's illegal" factor, since I'm only 17...


As for other drugs... There's rumors about my stepdad's brothers, but they do that privately anyway (according to those same rumors), so I never see it and I don't have a problem with it. What you do on your own time...

there's already a thread, but I have the last post and therefore cannot bump it.

Alright, the bugs have been ironed out (from what I've seen), the GP/Gold rates are fine...

So who here plays?

If there's enough interest between here and Moonlit Arena (so mostly here. =/), when I get to Silver Axe (less than 500 gp away!), I'll make a guild for Xeogaming and Moonlit Arena.

But before I do that, there's a Black Cloak I want... and an Indiana Hat; bright green hat does not go with black cloak. =/

It's an interesting concept. But, the price drop doesn't account for foreign companies, as they'll still have taxes and the prices will not be able to drop, therefore the sales tax would essentially fuck them over horribly.

Which is the exact problem. There's no exemptions on sales tax, to my knowledge, in regards to which country the goods originated in. Therefore, they'd still have to charge full price to make a profit, AND the added sales tax... no one would buy anything from them because they wouldn't be able to afford it.

Because, you know, not everything sold in the US comes from here. You appear to be missing that.

See, none of that was the reasoning behind my dislike of FFTA. Aside from the laws, which contributed to the game's easiness if you toyed with them a bit.

First, once you start in a certain class, you're trapped there. Since there's no multipliers like in FFT (where your stats changed just by changing classes, but there was still different growth to consider), if you go from Paladin to Black Mage, you'll still have a Paladin's (lack of) magic power. In FFT, if you went from Knight to Wizard, yeah, you'd be a bit lower on MP, but the multipliers would help you a bit.

Second, there was no one overpowered ability. They were all overpowered, and your opponents didn't have any of them. Therefore, exceptionally easy game.

As mentioned before, the laws make the game easy. You can completely destroy a boss with a low-level Antilaw card. The Crystals a problem? Use a Ban on Charm. Babus being a pain? Ban Target Area and use the Reflex reaction. These cheap combos are everywhere, and easy to get.

Combos? Just another way to overpower your team while leaving the opponents completely helpless. And the enemies NEVER HAVE THEM.

And I found the inability to rename units to be quite an annoyance, but that's just a minor thing really.

Let's use, I dunno, a video game for the fictional example. This game was made in Japan by a small Japanese company. It sells really well over in Japan, so they translate it to English and ship it over here. They would already have to charge about the same price they'd be charging now, with our current taxes, because they still have THEIR taxes over in Japan to deal with (note that I know nothing of their tax system; just bear with me here). Let's say they sell their game for $60 in the US. Now, there's a US company that made a game. They don't have these other taxes to deal with, which lowers their expenses notably, so they sell the game for $40.

Now, right there is a $20 difference. But all of this is BEFORE tax.

Price, after tax, for the US-made game: $48.80

Price, after tax, for the Japan-made game: $73.20

So, we're left with overall a damn-near 25-dollar difference that the Japanese company couldn't hope to avoid. What'll your average consumer do?


Now, bear in mind that it was just an example, and I'd bet that a few figures were exaggerated. But you obviously didn't see what I was talking about before, so I had no choice.

Got it.

Having trouble in, uh... shit, I dunno. Chapter 8? I refuse to let anyone die, and my screwups keep getting Oscar killed. It's the one where some pirates keep coming from the ocean, there's two houses that are very hard to save (I think I found a way, though), and Marcia joins you.

Other than Titania, I've noticed that my most useful characters are Mia and Boyd... both have customized weapons, though - a Slim Sword with 18 Crit and 1 Weight for Mia (and I think slightly increased power), and a Hand Axe with Power boosted 1, Accuracy at 80, and Weight lowered 1 for Boyd.

By the way, did anyone else ever have Shinon get five criticals in a row? 'cause it happened to me...
