I agree with your definition of opinion, and while I also feel that stamping out the opinion is wrong, it is fine to try and change someone's opinion by presenting facts and angles that the person may not have considered before, or by dispelling a myth they had believed.

Some opinions, however, will always meet with a violent reaction (i.e. anti-semetic opinions, etc). Of course, this is mainly a result of our society. As far as the beating a dead horse part, the only time I've seen that get really bad here was in the case of a circular reasoning argument ("I believe this" "Why?" "Because I believe it", etc) and was more trying to just get a straight answer. Those cases are annoying, however if handled tactfully it can keep from ruining a thread.

I agree about hiding in a cabin if that happens. There are limits to what I will put up with, and that is one of them. However I do believe what you did in the classroom was a good thing SK. Teachers are not supposed to teach their opinions on matters like that, they are not supposed to show their political views, religious believes, etc because then it is considered to be an unfair amount of influence on a developing adolecent/child that needs to learn to think for themselves.

Ah, I was going to ask where the job would call for you to relocate to, now I know. Personally, from what I've heard from my uncle in San Francisco, the Bay Area has it's advantages and disadvantages. Parking is a nightmare, but public transportation is rather good (so car issue not so bad). Housing is cramped and expensive, and it rains a lot more (that part is not so bad really). Lots of activities to go to, but all your friends are in Long Beach or near it so new friends would be needed... but there is the Castro district.

But with the issue of taking care of your mom and all that, I'd lean toward Sony. I don't think you'd be able to leave her behind, and I don't think she'd take relocating very well.

There is always the option of a room at the YMCA if you can't take staying with your mom... which is the far better option from what I'm reading. Why hasn't your "pop" been kicked out of the house along with the bitch he's cheating on your gram with? That just isn't right. |

Chill, seriously. Apply at a community college, get your shit done there, and transfer. It's generally auto-acceptance into a 4 year university for transfers as long as you've maintained a C average or better. It's what I did.

Also, how do you know that you won't get in if you do not apply? People call me pessmistic, but you just took the cake. What makes you think you won't get in? And what the hell was the meaning of the response to the Community college thing? I didn't understand what you meant at all until "they simply don't care".
