At least, I don't see anyone killing, pillaging, doing illegal drugs; and then-- successfully-- bringing it to court under violation of their Constitutional right of "pursuit of happiness."

can you legally define happiness? Is there one single way to define happiness that applies to all people? possibly, but I doubt it. But if you can't define what it is then you can't really argue it one way or the other. Like it has been said already, happiness for one person isn't happiness for another.

Although, I would have to argue that true happiness is only had during certain circumstances and that all other forms of "happiness" are temporary feelings of uphoria or excitement..... but that's just my opinion .

I hope not. I know in Canada they are trying to raise the age of consent back up to 16 from 14 which I think is absolutely great.

I think any adult who takes advantage of a child (in any way, but especially sexually) needs some form of punishment. If he/she is mentally ill, then he/she should be given help but also cut off from being able to have contact with chidlren. I don't really care if touching little children is the most enjoyable sexual practice for them. It's wrong.

And as for Pedophile sensitivity training.... there is no way in hell that I would take part in such a class. If our culture goes that far down the toilet I'll buy a cabin in the woods and hide.

Well, I feel like I might as well step in and say my piece.

So many of todays issues no longer have a black and white, true or false answer. We can no longer declare social issues as completely right or completely wrong. People always find grey areas or theoretical situations that change the "truth" of something.

No opinion is right or wrong, but more or less informed. And even then, my informed opinion is based on my interpretation of the information I have received. Any other person could get that same information and see it as meaning something else.

I think people care too much about the opinions of others, or react too strongly when an opinion that differs from theirs is announced.

Who cares if someone else thinks that x band is better than y band, or whatever it is. If you think something, what someone else thinks doesn't make what you think any more or less true.

I have to point out that the product is specialized for chimney fires, and not for regular fires. So trying to use this product against a regular fire would probably be less effective than other methods. Plus, it sounds like it is to be used to slow down a fire, but not as a final measure in putting out a fire.....

But still, the irony is absoutely great.

I think there could be some benefit to forced military service. First of all the health/physical requirements would keep more people in shape and give them some sort of routine on fitness. It would teach people discipline and a good work ethic which I know not all people have.

I would however think that only a 1 year forced service would actually go through. Anything longer than that and you are taking that person out of their life for too long. And I think that the person should be allowed to choose the year. Maybe some want to do it the first year out of high school, or maybe right after college, or as a break between 2nd and 3rd year.

However, I'm sure there are enough people that are too opposed to war/violence that this would cause a huge uproar in the US. As long as forced military service did not equal forced real life combat then it might happen.

wow.... that's just silly.

I wonder what the next thing that causes homosexuality will be.

Maybe watching olympic figure skating as a small child has some correlation to homosexuality.

this is what I hate about Christian groups.

What evidence can they come up with that shows that these bands make anyone gay?

and this is exactly what gives the "christian right" such a bad name. Whackos like these people coming up with bullshit like this.

so silly.

I'd agree with the less than 50% for sure.

It's really hard to know just how honest any politician is. They can talk and talk and it's difficult for the general public to keep them accountable when much of the time we can't actually verify if politicians actually do what they say.

Much of the time there is a big ceremony and pictures and media attention and then nothing. After the media is shown just how socially responsible the government wants to appear then the government is off the hook to actually follow through because most of the media is too lazy to actually follow up on an old story. True, once in a while someone notices that the government is lazy or irresponsible, but probably not nearly as often as it actually is.

I personally think the government has too much power and influence in society. The excess of power is where the corruption breeds from.

hehe, yeah. I'm coming around more and more to a moderate position.

And I agree with Elara. It probably is less than 30%. I think many people enter politics with the idea that they are going to be different than the people currently in office. I think they either give up on their quest to make a difference because they have trouble getting into positions of power without becoming corrupt themselves or they give in and become corrupt and give up on their desire to try and fix the government because all of a sudden they are getting something out of their new found position.

The system isn't set up to allow people to move up in the organization without becoming part of it.

but it wasn't about knowledge. It was about preventing all blacks from being allowed to vote.

The whole idea isn't democratic. Everyone in a democracy gets a vote (that is of age). Anything less than that is undemocratic and shouldn't be done.

I'm going with neither. I'd say why, but I really don't want to get into anything with people right now. I'm just not excited about either candidate.

And that comment right there is why politicians will never truly be accountable.

You'll vote for them just because they are a democrat?

That's what is wrong with politics. People don't realize that the far right in the democrats crosses the far left of the republicans. Sure they have extremes in the other direction but to just pick someone because of party affiliation is stupid. People jump parties regularly not because of issues but because of power.

Okay. That's just how it sounded. And it's not the first time I've heard people say it. They vote for the party more than the person eventhough the party itself is usually poorly defined by the media.

the problem is that there is no candidate that can make it into the presidency without some sort of big business support. Sure, it may not be the same big business that comes up with lots of the money, but it's one of them.

We want "experienced" politicians, and then we complain they are corrupted by the system.

sex is only as important to a relationship as it is to each individual in the relationship.

which is usually why people fight about sex. One partner wants it to occur more frequently or more creatively etc while the other doesn't.

it's different with every couple and there is no way to judge what is the right amount.

I don't remember ever doing homework in elementary school and it didn't screw me over for junior high and high school. I mean, how many 5-10 year olds need to be stuck inside even longer doing homework. Kids that age should be active not doing homework.

I really don't think elementary kids should have so much work to do that they have to take it home to finish it.

I don't really have any other arguments for this. I like the idea personally.

Oh wait.... I will argue for the extra work for certain kids that are having trouble with a certain subject. Not for every kid, but for some kids that need extra help.

Okay, that's all.

Posted on 04-26-07 08:07 PM, in Pentacle OK'd for use on U.S. soldiers' graves Link
well.... as with any symbols, what they represent changes. Their uses change and popular culture today has made that particular symbol "evil". That's not to say that the particular symbol can't be used for evil purposes.

I'm willing to bet that the pentacle has very positive uses before movies made them evil. A great example: "the swastika is a symbol of Nazism in the mid-twentieth century, but is a symbol of the sun-god or of good luck in India and Tibet".

I just spent a few minutes reading about the pentacle and it has been used by many different cultures including Hebrews (early Jews), Uruks, and even some Christians.

There are many symbols associated with with "Satanism" that aren't inherently evil. Plus who is it hurting that instead of a cross some people have pentacles on their graves.

This whole post feels kind of disorganized but I think you all get what I'm trying to say (this coming from the conservative Christian board member )
