It is defintely worth the purchase, but unless you preordered (did mine a month in advance to make sure) you don't get the bonus DVD with the MGS4 trailer and gameplay movies.
The secret movies are a blast to watch, making fun of Raiden from MGS 2 a bit.

And Xeo the MG for NES was a butchered job, if I remember correctly Kojima had nothing to do with it, so the Engrish in game is terrible, yet perfect on the MSX Metal Gear. The NES Snake's Revenge was a slap in the face of Metal Gear, so now for the first time in the U.S. we have the real Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. This game (MG2SS) pretty much sets the table for Metal Gear Solid on PSX.

Both Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche are indeed Puyo Puyo games given facelifts for recognition outside of Japan. The little yellow guy is the Puyo Puyo mascat, but as for the company that made Puoy Puyo, Compile, their mascot is the Blud Lander (the blue round thing in The Guardian Legend).

Nintendo never saw Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, Snake's Revenge was a way to cash in on the Metal Gear name (as apparently the NES MG game sold a few copies), but neither NES game were done by Hideo Kojima, to me Snake's Revenge was the biggest slap in the proverbial face of Metal Gear I had ever seen.

You won't go wrong with R-Type Final and R-Types, they are as tough as they are beautiful.

Gradius V,I haven't touched lately, as I didn't dig too much the mechanical feel to it, it need more organic surroundings. Gradius 3/4 whooo boy Gradius 3 SNES got nothing on Gradius 3 arcade, as a coin muncher it'll throw you into fits of rage (though a lot easier thanks to stage select after you've gotten past the 1st stage, but loop 2 only opens if the game is cleared on 1 credit), just don't hurl your PS 2 pad across the room.

Gradius 4 is easier than Gradius 3, but that's not to say it's easy, the game can be a bitch in the later levels, though due to it's poorer selection of music, it doesn't get the love of Gradius Gaiden from fans, or even Gradius V.

Myself I am after R-Type 3 myself (to hell with the GBA incarnation, it's a horrid port), I've seen cart only go for about 40 bucks on Ebay, and a complete Jpanese copy (manual, box, extras) go for the same price, but unless one had a Super Famicom, it would do little good to own it except as a collector's piece.

Xeo R-Type Delta is 3-D (but it runs incredibly 2-Dish, lots o' polygons though), Gradius V also has a polygon count, but they are skinned so it isn't as noticable.

As for Life Force, it's a Gradius spinoff, just as tough as nails as Gradius is, worth checking out, although the only US Life Force games, are either arcade or NES, Japan got them all under the name Salamander (Salamander, Life Force re-release, same as US version, Salamander for MSX, Salamander 2 arcade and on the Salamander Deluxe Pack for PSX, (burn or emulate if you emu PSX) Salamander, Life Force, and Salamander 2 are included.

No, Nemesis is another name for Gradius, commonly at one time used in Europe, case in point the first Gameboy Gradius game, and the 3 MSX games, Nemesis, Nemesis 2, and Nemesis 90 Kai (X68000 version of this game is absolutely beautiful and could cry out for a Chronicles remake like CV did). If you emulate X68K (I'm likely the only one here who emus it, or even has heard of it), do yourself a service and pick up the rom sometime.

Not a problem, as long as you have two shmup nuts around here (myself and Xeo), things will be fine.

Well after taking a short break I decided to start buying more shmup games I really wanted, in the last week I managed to snag 3 more, Castle Shikigami 2, a manic shump with a weird scoring system (grazing bullets makes your TBS meter go up therefore making scoring much easier, but much riskier), lots of bullets flying around the screen in DoDonPachi fashion. Also finally found a cheap cart only R-Type 3, as well as R-Types PSX (this one should be in the mail soon), all that leaves left is R-Type Delta PSX, the Gameboy and GBC R-Types (R-Type 1,2, and DX), R-Type 3 GBA (gonna skip that butchered port), and Super R-Type SNES (passed up on a cheap cart only copy, gah).

P.S. made a new thread because the old R-Type thread was last posted in by me 2 months ago, didn't want to bump it.

Amazingly so far R-Type 3 has gotten more playtime out of me than Shikigami 2, especially considering Shiki 2 has some of the worst voice acting ever.

Proof: http://audioatrocities.com/games/castleshikigami2/index.html

This game's bad acting alone was enough to make me buy it, even if it is over 2 years old. There's also other older games on here (though not that old).

Also anyone been hitting Ebay for purchases recently?

Got R-Type 3 for about 18 bucks cart only, beats paying about 50 bucks for a complete copy, best of all this cart is in excellent shape, no scratches, no label wear, no dirty connectors (unlike some of the recent NES games I've bought), thankfully it had a BIN (buy it now) option so I was able to snag it, Shiki, and R-Types without a bidding war. Also saved myself a lot of money by not getting into bidding wars (remembers being sniped for Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands PSX at the last moment).

None of the above, the costs are way too astronomical for a bill paying man like me, even if the Wii (doesn't it have a new name?) is the cheaper of the 3. Besides I still have plenty to play on PSX and PS 2 so I won't need to make the next gen leap this soon.

But when I do it'll be PS 3 for me, I owe Bill Gates nothing (I run his XP on this PC already ), and Nintendo I still like only in the portable market. Though I'd love to own a DS for NSMB, and a PSP for Gradius Collection and Extreme Ghouls N Ghosts.

When in church, think of football, or some sport you like, hell it's gotten me through church the 5 or 6 times I've ever been there.

I'm afraid these days if I walk into a church, I'll burst into flames or something.

Samus Aran hands down, she has tons of battle experience, after all she fought space pirates, Mother Brain, her two boss henchmen (Kraid and Ridley), the SA-X, the X-Parasite, and not to mention life sucking metroids. Master Chiefs resume isn't so impressive.

Haven't owned a terrible lot of them but here goes:

2 Atari 2600's
NES
SNES
Genesis
Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance
PSX
PS 2
Mortal Kombat Plug and Play (not a console but a game nonetheless)
Namco Plug and Play (see MK above)

And briefly a Dreamcast, since it had an overheating problem I returned it and bought my PS 2.

Whoa Picto's almost everywhere I am, I didn't even know Wiz knew of this place.

I recently tried to acquire the Raiden Project on Ebay, but I was sniped at the last minute for it, I was at work so I couldn't be home to snipe it back to my side, would've been a great opportunity to get the game for less than what it runs on Ebay (usually around 50 bucks complete, and likely to go up in value in the future). I always see copies on Ebay, but they never ever run cheap.

For Xeo about Raiden:
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=R&game_id=9244

Look for the other two games in the series in that listing. There are aslo 2 Raiden Fighter games, and one Raiden Jet Fighter game, also I believe Raiden 3 gets released August 8th, I have the cash, just hope I can find the game (didn't preorder due to not knowing if it would see a US release date).

Raiden is a very good, but very tough series, bullets have a habit of being attracted to your ship, and they move quite fast.

Solar Assault is 3-D Gradius, but arcade only, too bad it never got a home port as I hear it's really good, and isn't common. Gradius Homeworld has a little info on it.

I also Ebayed a BIN cart only copy of Gradius 3 SNES, me and that game will be re-united for the first time in about 15 years.
