It's the MTV awards, not the Oscars. Who cares? :p

But seriously, Twilight is...ehh. I've read the books and watched the first movie. I may have said it on the board before, but the first book was pretty decent, in my opinion. Second one, I hated, gave the third one a chance, cuz I assumed it was "second story syndrome" with the second book, and read the 4th one because I was bored, wanted to legitimately complain/defend the story, and well...ehh, I gave it a shot.

The first one was SOOOO cheesy, but you know what? It's called "Twilight", about a teenager and vampires, and had an apple in the pair of two pale hands. I knew what I was getting myself into when I opened the book. So I guess that helped, I wasn't expecting something great, just some guilty pleasure to be mildly entertained with. And as it turned out the first one was cool. If she ended it a few chapters longer, the series could have ended there, and been good. But no....the broad continued...and I was sick of Twilight haters, because I didn't know anything about it, and I thought they were just bandwagoners for either side...and then I realized "This really is crap."

I want my 30 bucks back.

Posted on 06-19-10 10:38 PM, in Incredibly awkward family situation, help ASAP Link
Truthfully, its ultimately your decision. I can see this Breakthrough thing working, but only because you'd want it to. I'm no psychiatrist, and I really don't want to sway you either way, because, shit, I might not know what the hell I'm talking about.

But, Rogue and True are on the right track, in my opinion. The idea of taking your sister out of the "usual" situation, and maybe taking her to lunch or something....

My family situation is weird. I know both sides of the spectrum. Older sisters are 10+ years older than me, younger sisters are 13+ years younger than me, and then I have two sisters, one will be 19 in a month, the other 21 in three months, and myself, just turning 21 LAST month. I think someday you won't feel like there's such an age gap between you and your sister, but until the both of you mature, then it's going to seem like a lot. My older sisters and I get along because they bunch me in as "one of the kids" sometimes, case in point, I'm 22, and I have a 17 year old niece. She and I are not siblings, but she and I ended up in a VERY similar situation. And it's funny, because the boyfriend thing is almost identical.

I know she seems to have a "flavor of the week" to sum it up, but even then, think about it, you're not trying to get to know the boyfriends for you and the boy. You're doing it for her. And out of the three of you (You, the boyfriend, and her.) who are the ones that will be family for the rest of your lives? And you never know, her having a boyfriend that is cool with her older brother, might make her feel into them longer.

Anyway, without going on and on, PMs will suffice if you'd like to share more specif experiences and try to get some ideas, how about this: You tell your family your intentions of fixing things. You suggest the possibiity of trying the breakthrough thing IF this doesn't work. And again, the possibility, so you're not locking yourself in. To anything. Cuz who the hell knows, you might want to try it. I, personally agree with the analogy of "It's like paying 5$ for a card saying you love someone." I really, truly do. But I don't think, in said analogy, you're paying for the card, you're paying for the piece of mind, and if that's what you want/need, then that's what it boils down to. But I really think it's important to admit your fault when it's due, like you already have. Admit it to them. Explain your intent and ideas to try and fix it. Explain that you want this to be between you and her, because YOU two are the ones who are family, not the support group. Or whatever. Pretty much I think what you said in your last post, if you were to explain that to your parents and your sister, and then actually PUT it into practice, you'll be fine. To sum it all up at least, not dumb it down.

Lmfao.

And it is stressful! That's the point! Like...even in the most stressful moments, we find ourselves being able to laugh hysterically at something. And not in that bitter, "Oh, this is my life" kinda way. But seriously, honestly, legitimately laugh.

**shrugs** I dunno. I think it's in a way, a positive thing, to have the ability to do that, and acknowledge that you're doing it. Because, like it or not, shit happens, big or small. :p

**giggles** Like True said...imagine being in the middle of a heated argument, you're angry as all hell, fuming, red in the face, and someone just hops up and says to you what she says. Like...I'd be laughing my ass off if I were in the middle of arguing and something like that happened.

In regards to awards, and this is taken slightly out of context, because when I originally said it, there was more to it, and it was in regards to the "shredsgiving" dealie as well.

But in all honesty, I'm all for doing this around Thanksgiving. I think for fun, we could go nuts with the shredding we keep talking about, but to go to this sort of calibur, the contests, teams, games, etc, truthfully, I think we should make it a fall thing. I know it's a long time away, but think of it this way, make it longer. Like, end of September to around Thanksgiving. Every year. Like some sort of annual clockwork. THEN, in December, after this "Shredsgiving"(I know it's a working title) thing, we can kick off the Christmas season with the Xeogaming awards. Let that go on until just after New Year's, maybe, and then we kick off each New Year with announcing who won the awards, and such. Again, making that an annual deal as well. But that way, we can also work on creating some sort of cute button/banner for each award that the winner can proudly show off in their signatures, profiles, whatever, for that entire year (Or we make sure the actual year is in the button/banner, or something, that way they can keep it up all the time, and it doesn't have to be taken away by someone winning their award the following year.)

I think it might be fun to have some awards or something in the summer, but if we schedule this right, we could make this BIG, and a LOT of fun, annually, and less cumbersome to execute.

**shrugs** I don't know. I never really paid attention to it, to tell you the truth, I'm only beginning to notice the idea of nerd girls being a rare thing. Although I don't think they're a dying breed. I think they just might not have been as large as the male nerd population. And by not large, I mean not even close. I know I'm a nerd, and I'm a girl. But I always had more guy friends than girl friends, so I was always "one of the only" in my group when it came to the notion of girls.

That's probably also because as a little kid, the cousins and kids around my neighborhood that were closest to my age were boys. My mom would rather me hang around boys and turn out to be a tomboy than let me be 10 years old and hanging around my teenage girl cousins, so it was encouraged to be a tomboy, in a sense. And that's another part that you might be missing. Most nerd girls I've ever met were considered tomboys as well. XD

But in the past few years, I'm seeing more and more couples come into my store, where the girl knows what she wants and isn't in a videogame store because her boyfriend is. More younger girls are getting into video games too, it seems, so who knows, maybe us nerd girls here are a little bit ahead of the game? Just born a little later than most others like us? Haha

I dunno. Rogue is the holy grail of a nerd girl. Let's see what she thinks. (Yes, is it sad that I'm embarassed to not be as "nerdy" as others? It's like the more I know and am into comics/games/etc, the better. XD)

I never said I was opposed to having an awards dealie sooner. I was just reminding of the idea of what having one later/annually/whatever could be too. I definitely support having one soon, especially with Vulkar leaving.

And I know activity drops in the Fall, but that's why things are extended a bit, give more time, but with there being something to do here, it could also give us a little more activity than we've had in the past Fall seasons. **shrugs**

Didn't have much time, but I wanted to see what I could come up with really quickly. The first is just a page of cosplay, but it's what she wore, and the other two, aren't full body pics, but they're more detailed for certain sections of her outfit. If all else fails and I can't find a REALLY good full body pic, I go for the best I can come up with (I could probaby find better for you when I have more time) and then just go for other pics of the outfit for detailed parts, and then just put them all together.

I giggled most heartily at that one. It's so true. XD If it weren't for the fact that my job doesn't lend to sitting down. At all. And I take public transportation, so getting my ass to the bus stops is a factor. With all the Mountain Dew I drink, cherry taffies and gushers fruit snacks I eat, and the sitting and drawing, sitting and gaming, sitting and reading, sitting and typing...all the sitting I do...I'm not very healthy. Hell, I get so lazy, I said to my sister once "I'm done for the day. I stood in the shower for 45 minutes, rather than sitting in the bath."

Hi! I'm Kat. I play games, like movies, read comics and graphic novels, can hold my own in talk of sports, cars...I'm sorta kinda tiny, but, I'm lazy, inhabit the habits of dudes that aren't so flattering, have no boobs, and my voice will grate on the inside of your skull until your eyes explode and blood pours from your ears.

You boys can't have it all. XD XD XD

**is still sulking over the Flyers' loss.**

You know, to be perfectly honest, I was utterly shocked at the Montreal/Pens outcome. This season, to tell you the truth, I was sooo outta the loop, but from what I saw/read, the Pens had an AWESOME year. I wanted to see them and the Flyers in round three, to tell you the truth. I'm not even 100% the Flyers would have been able to take them out. It would have been good though, Flyers stepped it up BIG time in all the rounds since the last few seasons.

Why involve kids though? They had the freaking baby in the beginning saying "Dick in a box"!!! Unless I heard that wrong...

Just to sum up Cairoi and Seijika very quickly, and reiterate Elara: I don't think it's wrong to say you wouldn't be with someone you don't find physically attractive. I don't think it's shallow either. I'm getting more and more artsy the older I get, it's scary, but I believe in the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." For example, I used to get chastized for being so pale...when in some cultures, the paler you are, the more beautiful you're considered. Might be a bad reference, but the Aryan(sp?) race, blonde hair, blue eyes....yet other cultures prefer the darker looks. And individuals can be the same way. I've been told several times "You're not ugly, but I'm more attracted to taller blondes, rather than the dark hair." **shrugs** I've DATED people who thought I was cute enough, but were more attracted physically to something different than I am.

I think beauty, in both men and women, is far too opinionated to really be a contender in this discussion. It's what Elara said, the "supermodel" look. Supermodels aren't the only attractive people out there. I think she was trying to say that she's seen that nerd guys want the nerd girl and Megan Fox at the same time. (And I'm using her as a figurative example, so no nitpicking please. Lmao)

It's not that it's hard, it's just that some questions could have more than one answer, at least back when I took mine.

Man, that sucks about having your work reposted like that. Isn't that illegal? Like, even if I were admitting that it wasn't mine, but not sourcing the original author/owner, isn't that illegal?

I don't blame you for being "parinoid" about it though. Wouldn't even call it parinoid, just smart. Whether it's us you're distrusting or not is even irrelevant, considering anything can search the content of this board. **shrugs**

Does anyone still talk to Sparda? He did something like this years ago, I believe, made indivituals their own banner. I know he made one for me, but I'm not exactly sure who else he made them for. I also don't think they were featured on the board, I think he just whipped them up for fun and gave them to us to put in our sigs...or something.

I dunno. Perhaps I'm remembering it totally wrong. But I think doing SOMEthing with banners would be pretty awesome. I definitely like the idea of making specific banners and such in specific themes for the board. **shrugs**

As far as the merges, so far so good, imo. I know I was one of the people with the "if its not broken..." mentality, and I still am, but I'm not going to show up at your house waving around an firey pitchfork in protest of what's been done. **shrugs**
