I thought it was hysterical that even the show girl was jumping up and down next to the car when she got it.

How do you know when an Internet phenomenon has gone the distance? Not when people are making their own videos of it, but when professionals are doing it, on ice, for their entry into the deciding which couples go to the Olympics.

Now let's see them do their 8-minute program based on "Here It Goes Again."

To prove what kind of Rennie geeks we are, kittybob and I went around school (and town) in faire garb just for shits yesterday.

Ironically in history class, last night, the topic was privateering. Our teacher's really cool and even acknowledged TLAP Day. The funny thing was that this girl who sat directly in front of Zoso, kittybob, and me (who also didn't see us walk in to class, since the door is in the back) was commenting on what a stupid Internet holiday it was and wouldn't understand who would celebrate it. Kittybob and I laughed, as did our professor.

Later, we went to the market to buy soup and the guy at the checkstand started talking in pirate to the point that he couldn't stop and kept slipping puns out there without realizing it. Once he said, "Good night, you scurvy dogs!" he slammed his head down on his computer monitor.

Kinda reminds me of all of the jokes people who smoke and don't care what the people who get in their faces about the habit say.

Non-smoker: "You know those things take 10 years right off your life, right?"
Smoker: "Yes, but those are the last years and who really wants to live those, anyway?"

Smoker: "I take comfort in the fact that these things will kill me before everything gets worse."

Honestly, I am not for smoking, but it gets obnoxious when anti-smoking zealots come around and either blatantly "cough" around smokers even when they're several yards awway or yell at them for smoking when they're within their rights. For many smokers, the only thing they've got is smoking. Nicotine is a relaxant and often the most stressed out workers/parents, who don't receive much for their toil become smokers because it's like a mini-vacation from life.

While I appreciate that I live in a state where people practically can't smoke anywhere (though they often do anyway), some of the tactics in passing legislation to further truncate people's rights is just absurd.

I'm more curious as to how you'd have three songs on a deserted island.

Are they playing non-stop in your head? Are they the only songs you know how to sing?

Do you have a CD player with a burned disc that only has those songs on it? If so, I'd take the batteries out of the CD player and put them toward getting off the island.

*Scratches head.* Seriously, to what capacity did they mean this? It's not as though a song, itself, is tangible and you had it in your pocket when your plane crashed and you wound up on that island.

Over-thinking aside, I'd rather have a bunch of random sea shanties in my head. More than likely all of the Poxy Boggards songs I know would be what I'd be singing to myself while I'm on said deserted island.

I'm a big fan of martial arts epics and I've been wanting to see this for some time. I look forward to it in theaters. I'll have to post my thoughts on it once I see it.

I wonder when Li's going to come out with Rogue (no relation to X-Men) with Jason Statham.

It's not his last action movie, just his last Kung Fu epic. Something like Unleashed isn't an epic, but Legend, Once Upon a Time in China and Hero are.

He's still making movies and hell, even still doing fight scenes in them, he's just not doing the Crouching Tiger caliber any more.

I am aware that he wasn't in Crouching Tiger, but since it's the most well-known film of that type in this country, it makes for an ideal example.

Did they play all covers or did they play other things that were Metallica-esque?

Hehe, isn't Alcoholica one of Metallica's nicknames?

When I first saw that title, I thought you were asking about M&M's, which is a soul food restaurant chain where I live.

Honestly I didn't know there was a particularly different way of eating the candy other than popping them in, chewing them and swallowing them. Sometimes I let them sit in my mouth and melt and once in a while if I get one that's got something in it (krispees, peanut butter, etc) I'll bite it in half and then look at it. Force of habit from when I was a kid.

Posted on 09-25-06 02:06 AM, in Family Guy question: Why does everyone hate Meg? Link
So tonight I was watching FOX's Sunday night animation line-up as I've done for years and it finally gets to Family Guy. After the usual tearing into Meg by all of the other characters, I got to wondering--why the hell does everyone hate Meg anyway?

I never really was a fan of the show, so I've just accepted this as one of the many branches of the show that just never needed explaining--like Stewie being understood about half of the time and has intentions of murdering Lois (which appear to have ebbed), Brian's ability to talk, or the flashes of randomness that take up about a third of the show created out of suggestions made by the characters ("This is kinda like the time I licked Saddam's asshole..." *Cue the 5-minute long sketch of Peter licking Saddam's asshole then get back into the senseless plot.*)

All right, so why is Meg just so hated? Am I missing something? I just don't understand why she's everyone's whipping boy when Chris is right there.

Anyone else care to explain the other things that I listed?

All right, so we've got the ever so edging on spam "What are you listening to...?" thread, and I, like many, MANY people, have songs stuck in my head more often than I'm sitting, listening to music.

I'm like Homer. Whenever anyone thinks he's in deep thought he's singing a song to himself ("Duh da da di da HEY! Duh da da da! Duh da da di da HEY! Da da..") It just happens much more often.

So what little ditty (we love ditties) is going in your head right now that you can't get out?

For me, this past week I've been singing "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas going in my head. On my way to take an exam for my bio class I was singing outloud, "I am the 'who' when you call 'who's there?'/I am the wind blowing through your hair. I am the shadow on the moon at night/filling your dreams to the brim with fright."

Of course it's Man-Faye. I've met him several times, knew him since he started this thing in AX02, but he gained extreme notoriety at AX03, was threatened with arrest at AX04 and was denied a badge at AX05, but still had a rally in front of the convention center. This year was the year he was given an industry badge and marched, with otaku entourage in tow, into the exhibit hall to give interviews to the press.

I was there at EVERY single step of this ridiculous journey. I've seen it all firsthand.

I used to support him, back when he first started this. But now he's just a fixture to AX and a one-hit wonder to boot. This past con, I watched him run up to different groups of cosplayers, shouting, ""May-Faye's here! Man-Faye's here! Let him through!" for himself.

Honestly, what he did wrong was he kept pulling the little yellow pants up so high that much more was hanging out than necessary and being on Disney's property they had the right to deny him entry into their convention center. And when he was doing it on city property, it became the cop's authority to arrest him for indecent exposure.

Here he is being threatened with arrest:

Note that he puts on airs for the otaku, but then suddenly is silent and obedient with no edge for his so-called protest of the first amendment when talking with the police.

He's just an attention whore who's claiming all sorts of nonsense to back up his need for people to look at him and worship him. I remember during the rally of '05 he was going on about his fight being like that of the disabled because he has a hairy ass and no one accepts it.

He was so full of himself and needing to get back in the spotlight that he went on "Who Wants to be a Superhero?"

I'm sorry, rights or no rights, he was breaking the law and even if a female cosplayer 10 feet away is hanging out of her dress, he's still no freedom fighter. The law should be enforced on both sexes, equally.
