Anyway, am burning through the list I mentioned, and am kinda ticked that I may have to buy Usagi Yojimbo Vol. 4 as my library seems to have all of them except #4. Oh well.

If only graphic novels weren't so damn expensive.

I made the "mistake" of telling him what Brandon and I were going to do while he was on break at the courthouse and after a while he kept asking, "So when do I get my pie?"

Then I said we were just going to eat it without him. Then he sadly asked, "Or you could eat it with me?"

Anyway, we showed up at his house with an Oreo cream pie and a candle in the shape of a 4 in the center of it. He ate a piece and went to bed.

While we were buying his pie, we noticed Sara Lee apparently packages single slices. We toyed with the idea of throwing that out the window, onto his lawn, and driving away. Brandon suggested tying it to a brick and throwing it through his window, clocking him while he played WoW.

Ha. We're so mean to the little bugger. One of our bestfriends and yet so fun to tease sometimes.

Yeah, my library's starting to carry more manga and graphic novels, which is cool and all, but they don't carry anything they deem inappropriate. So I can't read most series that I like.

Another problem with it, as I mentioned, is that they'll have #2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, etc, and not have all of a series. Not just because someone has it checked out, but because they just don't have it. Or maybe someone lost it and it was taken off the system.

Since I go to a few conventions a year, I can get a lot of them cheaper. Most graphic novel sellers have them in the long boxes at 50% off. Problem is they often don't carry what I'm looking for and rarely are these things in any particular order.

I was sent this yesterday over LJ. I'm sure if I could understand Dutch, I'd know what's going on, but even if I did, this still might strike me as a bit disturbing.

From what I've gathering big boy is an openly-gay talkshow host in the Netherlands who pulls things like this all the time.

As an American, seeing his work for the first time through this video, I'm not sure what to think.

Heh, last time I read anything on the NRA was in high school, and he stepped down in 2003. Figures.

Anyway...

Ben-Hur had its moments. When I was a little kid, I used to put in the second tape of it (since it used to come in a box set of two tapes), and just watch the chariot race, then turn the movie off.

Does your grandmother/grandfather use a walker?:
- Nope.

What is your aim screen name?:
- TrenchcoatRogue.

Do you cry a lot?
- Not particularly.

Do your parents get on your MySpace?:
- Even if I had one, I doubt they would. Neither are very computer-literate.

Which is better, Gatorade or Propel?:
- Propel.

How many siblings do you have?:
- 0.

What is the first noticeable thing behind you?
- The TV, which is on.

Do you tan easily?
- I burn easily. Didn't used to, but I do now.

Ever seen anyone put on flavored lipgloss just to lick it off?:
- I suppose I have.

Have you ever walked in on your parents?
- NO.

Where does your family hide the liquor?:
- In a cabinet above the pantry. It's not really hidden since one of the cabinet doors doesn't close right and anyone can see/reach into it standing in our kitchen.

Do you die without chewing gum?:
- No?

Are you glad it's summer?
- It's spring right now, but when it is summer I suppose I'm pleased when it is. It's CON SEASON!!!

How many calories would you say you take in a day?:
- Whatever the daily amount you're suppose to limit yourself to and then some.

Have you ever pissed outside?:
- Nope.

Name one funny thing on your mind.:
- That "I Touch Myself" video someone did of Kirk and Spock on Star Trek.

Do you plan to go to college?:
- I'm in college.

What about kids?:
- They're miniature versions of people who smell funny. Oh, you mean, would I have them? Maybe. Doubtful I'd have more than one on purpose.

Plan on getting married?:
- I don't plan it. If it happens, it happens.

Will you have a back porch on your house?:
- What the hell? As in if I get married will I have a house with a back porch? Who the hell wrote this question?

Do you dislike backstabbers?:
- Who doesn't? No one who's been betrayed turns around and says, "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"

Do you live near any lakes?:
- Just one giant, salty one called the Pacific Ocean.

Are you spiritual?:
- Not really. I can't stand people who say things like, "I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual" either.

How late do you usually stay up?:
- Depends on what I'm doing. If it's a Voidcrush show night or something else, I might not go to sleep 'til 5 in the morning. Usually I'm out by 11 on regular nights, though.

What do you do in your spare time?:
- Again it depends. The most basic would be: read comics and surf the 'net for places to explore and see. Otherwise, I pass time going to cons, Renaissance faires, and whatever else in between.

Ever get lonely?:
- Yeah, on occasion. Usually only feel that way when I'm bored.

Ever not liked someone because of their race?
- There are better reasons to dislike someone than for their skin color. Perhaps a person is really stupid? Or overly-dramatic? Those are somewhat universal. And no. I haven't.

Name 5 TV shows you watch at least once a day/night.:
- Shows I watch at least once a day? I don't know. There are only a couple shows that I actually watch, and when they're on it's once a week. Those are Heroes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Ever beat ass in the day and take names in the evening?:

- Uh, no.

Do you share a bathroom?:
- Yeah, with Brandon.

Do you hate it?
- Not really.

Do you plan on being a hooker?
- Who really plans on that? Then again, isn't being a porn star pretty much the same thing just someone's filming it?

Do you get in trouble a lot?
- You could say that.

Who do you see on Sundays?
- Sunday is usually the day I get breakfast with my parents down by the beach. Otherwise, there's no real definite list of people I see.

Is your backyard just a concrete slab with no grass?
- What's with the person who wrote this survey and a backyard's appearance? Yeah, there's concrete back there and no grass, but that's because my mom ripped it up and put in little planters with woodchips where there'd be nothing.

How many bookcases are in your house?
- There are two in my room, one in the dining room and one in my parents' room.

- A disc of Star Trek: Voyager episodes.

- Way too many to count off the top of my head.

Are you currently wanting any piercings?
- Only in my ears.

What about tattoos?
- Maybe some day. I recently decided it was time to get something to commemorate my grandfather who died more than 10 years ago.

Have you ever been to SuicideGirls.com?
- Yes, but only to check out what my friend who applied to be one of them was trying to be.

Do you read US Weekly?
- No.

Have you ever seen that TV show M*A*S*H?
- I've seen just about every episode of it.

Do you want to have kids one day?
- See one of the above questions.

Have you ever been raped?
- Thankfully no.

Have you read the book Memoirs of a Geisha?
- No.

Do you tend to exaggerate things when telling a story?
- I do occasionally.

If you're in a fight with your significant other & they give you flowers as an apology, are they automatically forgiven?
- That's never happened and it's a rather silly thing to do as a peace-offering. I'm usually very forgiving when it comes to many transgressions, but just forgiving someone without getting to the heart of a matter because I received flowers would leave me in complete disrespect of myself.

Do you consider yourself shallow?
- Sometimes.

Are you hungry right now?
- No. Had dinner a few hours ago.

Can you play the violin?
- I used to.

What about the guitar?
- Am in the process of learning.

- Hopefully sometime this lifetime.

Have you ever been to a real fashion show?
- Real? I doubt what I've been to would be considered such.

Do you have wireless internet?
- Yes.

Have you ever had an eating disorder?
- Eating way too much?

Are you wearing socks?
- No. I really don't wear things on my feet if I can help it.

BUMP!!

I started replaying this again today after beating it several months back.

I'm usually not one for walkthroughs, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover the two bathing women behind the screen at the beginning of the game with whom Kratos stops to please and is rewarded with health and red orbs (much like in the first game).

And people were pissed off about "hot coffee"?

Yeah, between the two, the first game has better production value--better graphics, fewer bugs, and so on.

But damn is the second game not more brutal. Kratos is just kicking everyone's ass no matter who they are. And the challenges are crazier with this one too. You go from throwing enemies onto a fire for red orb chests, to fighting an invisible man on water, slowing down time and so many other things.

What's also crazy is how the people who made the game included multiple ways for you to die in the fight with Zeus at the end, should you miss a button.

While in the first game you're given 4 powers, in this one you've for 4 plus a bunch of other abilities.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is all an act, but even when making pedo-jokes it sort of ups the wtf-factor when the child is actually present and you're interacting with them in such a way.

I'm shopping for towels. In comparing prices between Wal*Mart and Target, I noticed this negative review for a towel set from a man in Alabama:

The large towel reads on the tag that it is 58'' long
which was very important to me for my use.
But it was only 56'' long.
We tried to stretch it and iron it still only got 57''.

Source: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5412295

Seriously? A towel review? Especially one that sounds like that?

It's definitely real. There's no merit for a troll in Wal*Mart towel reviews.

In other news, I'm tired of distant relatives from the Philippines coming to visit and talking to me like I'm a carton of eggs whose expiration date is very quickly approaching.

"When's the big day? You're 23, right? So in 2 years we should be expecting children, right?"

Fucking A.

15. Do you believe in soulmates: In a sense, I do.
16. What is your favorite part of your physical appearance: ... I'm actually finding this question difficult to answer. My left ear.
17. What is your favorite part of your emotional being: Uhhhhh .... I guess that I'm empathetic.
18. Are you happy with you: Well, yeah, but there are several changes to be made. I mean, were I totally satisfied with myself what would be the point of seeking change or learning?
19. Are you happy with your life: Same answer as the above.
20. If you could change something in your life right now, what would it be: That I were traveling more and out of college.

Lost Voicemail of Man's Dead Wife Restored by Phone Company

IRVINGTON, N.Y. ? An 80-year-old man who thought he'd lost the only recording of his dead wife's voice can hear her again, any time he wants. When Verizon upgraded Charles Whiting's telephone service, his wife's voice, saying, "Catherine Whiting," disappeared from his voicemail system.

She had died in 2005 and Whiting said he listened to her voice every day for comfort. He blamed Verizon for the loss, saying, "Now they took her voice away."

But Verizon had archived all the old greetings and messages. Company spokesman John Bonomo said Tuesday that a contractor found the recording and restored it to the new voicemail system.

"I'm glad they rescued it," Whiting said. "I'm very happy."

This is hauntingly sweet.

I wish I could find this guy and give him a hug, seriously.

Posted on 04-09-08 07:52 PM, in Uwe Boll responds to negative internet criticism of his "genius" Link
So many of you, I'm sure, are familiar with Uwe Boll. He's famous for taking video games and making relatively terrible film adaptations of them (although I am a bit interested to see his Postal movie).

He's been quoted often as calling IMDB commentators as 30-somethings who can't get laid and living in "mommy's basement."

He's even taken it to the point of challenging some of his biggest critics to boxing matches. Him fighting SomethingAwful's webmaster, a reviewer from Ain't It Cool, etc

Anyway, here's the latest lash-out from everyone's favorite director, regarding an internet petition someone started to make him stop making movies:

Uwe Boll Responds to Online Petition Remember that poll I-A-B posted about Boll not directing again if it hits 1 million signatures? Well, he`s f-ing pissed.

OK, I reinstate my fuck you to CSULB.

Got a card in the mail saying my application hasn't been fully completed yet and that there's still something missing--seeing as I hadn't sent in the AP scores, I can guess what it is.

They leave an ultimatum on there saying they need these pieces of information by April 28 or they pass me over.

I call them up, trying as calmly as I can to ask them why I would need to send them if I have already taken the equivalent classes.

They transfer me to the lady who requested them.

She tells me they need my AP scores so that it would help me reach the 60 unit mark if I only have 50 or so.

I inform her I have well over 60 units.

She puts me on hold saying she's going to do a quick review.

Nearly five minutes go by and she gets back on the line to agree with me and say that I am OK on units. She then goes on to say that she's inputing into the computer that my application is completed.

A sigh of relief escapes me. And I thank her for finally clearing up this absurdity.

Then she says, "So you don't need to send your scores 'til July 15."

What?

I ask her why I'd still need to send them.

She answers, "It's to help you, of course."

I give up. I thank her for her time and hang up.

By July 15, I may have already received an acceptance from Fullerton and chosen them instead.

On a side note, a small fuck you to my stats teacher for having a quiz the day after spring break. Supposedly he told the class there was a quiz the session before break, but since he likes to do that when half the class has finished their homework and left, it's somewhat futile to have it anyway.

I got a B on it, and while I'm pleased, still that's pretty shitty.

Am watching Little Miss Sunshine. First time I've seen it since it came out in theaters. So many wonderful things I'd forgotten.

Before that I watched Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth in Girl with a Pearl Earring. I'd been wanting to watch it for some time and managed to find a copy at the library.

It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The ending was somewhat abrupt and ambiguous, while the story isn't as dynamic as the trailers would have you believe.

Heh, I remember Bobby's World and Eek! the Cat, Shuyin. They were both part of the Fox Kids countdown.

I remember all of these. Damn. So nostalgic now.

Anyway, most of the ones I remember and love (TMNT, X-Men, Mighty Max, Spider-Man, Sailor Moon, etc) have already been listed, so I won't bother with them too much.

Some of the shows I watched:

I used to be really into the PBS gameshow, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" When the cartoon was announced, I was beyond ecstatic.

Now, despite being a fan of the original cartoon series for as long as I can remember (seriously, I recall watching it religiously when I was 3), this one has a warm, squishy spot in my cold, black heart.

When Sailor Moon was canceled where I live, this was what replaced it. I wasn't really into it at first, but watched it anyway and grew to like it.

My favorite superhero when I was 6:

And before Animaniacs, there was:

Now this one I used to watch in conjunction with "Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys" (which for some reason doesn't have just the intro on YouTube, but it has episodes up). I sort of grew to like this one because I thought Nefertina was awesome.

And to end on a high note, a series I truly miss and wish would make its comeback in place of the continually new series Fox and WB put out to try and top it:

So yeah, fuck Viva Pinata!

This'll be a busy week.

Seeing Apocalyptica tonight at the Roxy.

Seeing a bunch of random metal bands tomorrow night at the House of Blues.

Voidcrush has a gig Wednesday night.

Not sure what's going on Thursday and Friday.

Seeing Pennywise Saturday at the Long Beach Grand Prix. Saturday's also Brandon's and my anniversary. We were planning on going out of town, but opted to see Pennywise instead.

Went to the aquarium yesterday.

So many kids.

So many strollers.

So many kids in strollers who really don't need them, but these lazy parents still have a kid in them, whose feet drag and have become so dependent on the stroller that they get absolutely no exercise, and take up tank-viewing space and run their brat-carts into your ankles every chance they get.

Got to pet mangrove rays and watch an otter take a shit. Some kid fell in one of the ray petting pools.

Posted on 04-14-08 12:01 PM, in Hello, sunburns, my old friend Link
So it's approaching that time of year where being outside is almost oppressively unbearable while the sun is out. Being inside too in some cases.

Seems like every weekend since mid-March I've been getting scorched terribly by the sun.

I didn't used to burn when I was younger. In fact, being out in the sun for hours on end used to just turn my skin a slight brown. These days even at limited exposure, my skin feels cooked.

Now, I usually carry SPF 75 sunscreen with me, though I can't seem to find it. It barely seems to do any good, despite going the day with greasy skin from the lotion mixing with sweat. Which dirt and dust, of course, stick to.

Anyway, anyone else out there with fried skin?

What's everyone doing to keep cool?

Any upcoming plans that might make you look like a tomato if you don't keep to shade and wear the appropriate protection?

Speaking of which, Elara, what are the group's faire plans this year?
