So I continue to plow through movies from the library. Last night finally saw Top Gun from beginning to end. It's like one long gay joke with how much homoerotic innuendo is in there. On top of that, it kept playing "Danger Zone" and "Take My Breath Away" in pieces throughout the film. It was so hard to take seriously.

Also last night, I finally went to see Tangled, which I'd been waiting months for, in 3D (can't afford first-run theaters these days, so I had to wait for it to hit the cheap theater - $3 = WIN). I LOVED it. Worth the wait. Disney created a prince I actually like (well, other than Naveen) and he's damn good looking.

This is something I've actually thought about a few times.

Deaf. While there are many things I would miss about being able to hear - music, the voices of loved ones, etc - I figure it would be easier for me in the long run, and I tend to get more pleasure from visuals than audio. I could still watch movies (use closed-captioning, etc), read books right off the shelf, drive (not sure if it would be legal, though), see where I'm going without help, communicate through writing, and I wouldn't have to hear people's drama.

Have you ever been horribly disappointed about something you were REALLY, REALLY looking forward to, and if so, what was it?

Funny thing. When you put all the movies in their chronological order "Temple of Doom" comes before "Raiders."

Fuck you, Titan Degree Audit. I just got a message from Admissions and Records concerned that I might not graduate because I'm missing a major class. Why they fuck did Graphic Novel fall off the list?! Anyway, I actually already contacted an academic adviser about this a couple weeks ago, who said I should be fine since I'm taking another non-comm class.

Fuck this year of jinxes. Seems like whenever I get excited about something, another bad thing happens.

Had the best weekend in Arizona re-enacting the Renaissance and Old West with steampunk. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

We were supposed to head back Sunday night/Monday morning, so I could make it back for Monday's class, but we stayed later so Brandon could see his mom. We had dinner at this really cool pizza place with this massive pipe organ inside, being played by a guy taking all sorts of crazy requests. It was amazing.

Here's the deal about Graphic Novel -- it was an experimental class. Like it had never been taught before and the English department was trying it out.

The number on the class changed (even though it hasn't been taught since), from like English 345 to English 456 or something and thus the TDA people let it slip through their fingers somewhere.

Whatever... so long as Asian American Film gets me through.

That's kinda difficult since Tiki sleeps EVERYWHERE, but her usual stop is balanced on the banister. She was getting up on there even when she was freshly spayed and wearing a cone.

That would be Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa. It's right around the corner from Brandon's mom's apartment. I'd read about it for years and had been wanting to go, but never really found the right occasion.

Here's the guy playing the theme from "Raiders of the Lost Ark":

He played that, a medley from "Mary Poppins," Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, among other things while we were there.

First off, your mother kicks ass.

Secondly, your step-dad seems like an asshole.

Third and finally, you're going to be OK. You're still young and things will work themselves out. Don't give up on college. I know things will be tough, but you definitely don't need the financial aid of a total prick who demands a mother choose between her own child and him.

Oddly enough that never scared me. Maybe I was just way too young to know (watching a VHS of "Temple of Doom" was seriously my earliest memory).

But when Donovan drinks from the false grail and suddenly gets really old and turns to dust - that shit creeped me the fuck out. Melting nazis came after that.

Exactly!

I'm 26, and - fates willing - I'm graduating in May, double-majoring in journalism and American studies.

I know I've felt like shit about not getting done earlier, when I felt like everyone else I went to high school did (believe me, MOST of your graduating high school class will not even go to college, so be proud of what you're doing no matter how long it takes you).

Just don't give up on going, even if you can only afford a class here or there.

So I finally finished the Sandman series. Definitely not the ending I was expected, and (this is definitely going to incite a lot of hatred) I honestly didn't like it. It was rather anti-climactic - not with a bang, but with a whimper.

Anyway, I started reading "Endless Nights." I'm liking it a lot more. Probably because I always loved the other Endless more than Dream.

Need to start reading "Seduction of the Innocent" for my dissertation paper for my American studies capstone class. I'm writing about COMIC BOOKS! Take that everyone stuck writing about race relations and mental illness because they didn't think they could write about pop culture. Mwahahahahahaha!!

"Seduction of the Innocent," published in the '50s, pretty much lays out why comics are destroying society and making American youth hostile and stupid. Since we're supposed to write about a problem and how experts of a particular time wrote about it, this is PERFECT!

Not all that excited about reading it, though. It's the book that nearly destroyed comics. Took away their edge, and made them create the Comics Code Authority, which was censoring comics.

Thankfully we had the Silver Age and everything that came after that. Great stuff.

So yeah... here.

Me on one of the days at Old West convention.

Yeah...

I know my nails are dirty. We were walking around a dusty ghosttown all weekend.

I know exactly what you mean, but not so much about Disneyland/World as traveling in general.

Seemed like my parents traveled a lot with me before I could really retain memories. We went to Hawaii a few times, around when I was 3 is when I start to remember some of it.

But when I was 1, we all went on a roadtrip up to Canada for the World's Fair in '86. There are hundreds of pictures of me on that trip and absolutely no recollection of it on my part.
