Finished Dunces, and immediately started Pride and Prejudice.

I already know the story from all the movie and mini-series adaptations, but I hadn't actually read it before and on top of that I happened to pick up two fan-written sequels someone wrote for it at a dollar bookstore. I'd like to read it knowing there isn't anything that I missed.

I had started into Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a few years ago, but dropped it because I hadn't officially read the original yet and I wanted to see just how much they changed Austen's prose. Silly, I know, but I've held myself to it all this time.

The sequels I got are called Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and Darcy and Elizabeth, apparently this author wrote a third sequel, which I might pick up depending on how good these other two are.

Take frequent showers, drink lots of water, take vitamins, and sleep more.

It works... sometimes.

Your significant other is having a birthday dinner, a bunch of people promise to come. The night of the dinner arrives and you're sitting at a table for ten people and no one else shows up. Is it safe throw a fit on Facebook?

((This sort of happened a few years back for Brandon's. Despite us going to all those other people's birthday dinners at the last minute and shelling out so much money for expensive meals, they all flaked on an all-night happy hour at a gastropub. I can take when these things happen to me, but watching it happen to Brandon made me SOOOOOO PISSED.))

((I'm not sure. This was.. uh 2011? Pretty much it was the band, old Rocky friends, and other people we'd been hanging out with who were invited. It was a rather casual thing at a bar which we just posted about on the ol' Facebook. The only person who came was our friend, Bernie, whom we had to pick up and buy beer and food for. She ended up being the person who threw the fit on FB, targeting Lee, specifically. The funny thing is so many people saw the fight between them, got nervous that she'd target them next and were suddenly buying Brandon beer, making him ice cream (in the case of Chef), apologizing, and all sorts of other belated well wishes to cover their asses.))

Now to answer the official question: I've been crocheting a lot lately since it only takes so much of my attention and I could talk to other people or watch TV while doing it. I've also been crocheting while riding in cars at night since it doesn't take much light for me to do it.

I've also been reading with a book light.

So yeah, reading and crocheting.

This parakeet I had named Willy. She was such a bitch and not only killed the other parakeet I had, but kept pissing off my cockatiels, which were practically family members. My mom gave Willy away to a workmate of hers, and we still hear about what a noisy cunt she is and how she kills all the birds that get put in a cage with her.

You've only got $5, what do you do for food for the day?

Finished Pride and Prejudice and immediately started Boethius' The Consolation of Philosophy.

I also randomly started reading Tuesdays With Morrie, which feels like the time I read The Bridges of Madison County. It's this thin book with large font, and it just feels like one of those bestsellers that's so sugary sweet everyone pushes it on you to read.

Fuck it... *Goes back to Boethius talking to Lady Philosophy while he awaits his torture at the hands of the Romans*

I've had this post typed for the past few days, but just never finished and hit submit.

As a former Catholic, I was not shocked in the slightest, especially considering Cardinal Mahony finally losing all power on his full retirement just a few days ago.

I know Benedict XVI is citing his old age as reason enough to resign and considering how Pope John Paul II was pretty much wasted away to nothing mentally by the end. While this seems feasible, this could also easily pass for the Catholic Church's PR department attempting to overhaul the church's image in one swoop.

Benedict XVI wasn't exactly well-liked, especially when trying to follow an act like John Paul II.

It's official. The most drunk I've ever been in my life was at a Doctor Who convention.

To continue with my lack of surprise, apparently a week before the resignation announcement a warrant was issued to arrest the the pope for a child molestation charge.

He's desperately seeking immunity, and will probably live in the Vatican for the rest of his life so people won't get him, being its own country and all.

Whether it's proven or not, I still say this was a PR stunt.

I had typed up an entire response, but seeing as I'm too lazy to pull out the laptop, fire it up, open Firefox, find the Xeogaming tab, and finish the post and submit it (even just typing all that is exhausting), I'll just write up a little something here in reply.

Well, let's see. At Gallifrey, alcohol flows like the mighty Mississip. Seemed like every night had opportunities for imbibing massive amounts of liquor. It comes with the fact that a really high number of the attendees are in from Europe.

It's the only place I've been where there was more flask-trading than a Renaissance faire.

Anyway, Friday night I discovered my tankard can hold an entire bottle of wine and then some as I was hitting a couple of the room parties and walking the convention floor with a drink in my hand.

It's Saturday that the poison finally took hold. I worked 15 straight hours on ConOps, and near the end when my friend was walking around drunk I ran up to my room and pulled out the bottle of Theobroma -- brewed based on an Aztec recipe from 1100 B.C. -- and she and I shared it during some down time.

Once I was off the clock, I polished off a bottle of 100 proof soju and started hanging around a party on the back patio where people were drinking all sorts of things. My tankard was rarely empty, as I kept drinking rum and other things.

It's at this point that I lost control of myself and don't remember much of what I did, though Brandon informs me that I started walking around and talking to total strangers and having long conversations with them. People kept handing me ribbons for my badge and apparently I kept getting hit on by lesbians and this one guy who was also working Ops who kept giving me more stuff to drink. I do remember whenever Brandon left he kept telling me to call him when I'm single.

Now, being the fat, matronly geek chick I am who's been in a monogamous relationship for nearly a decade, I'm not used to getting hit on any more and don't notice it, but Brandon swears it was happening on a regular basis Saturday night.

So yeah... I'm insatiable when I'm drunk.

That's pretty much all there is to tell.

I woke up in my hotel room with my pajamas on, but can't even remember getting back and changing.

Anyway, the next day I wasn't running to the bathroom and hoping to make it in time (which would be more typical to a heavy night of drinking for me), but was more feeling sick and having to gag myself to make anything come up.

It wasn't until I got home later, after napping in the hotel room most of the day, that I noticed my symptoms were more cold-like (stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, etc). So yeah... con crud had settled in for a couple days.

Read Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher's memoir regarding her family, drug, alcohol, and relationship issues. It was a very quick read (2 hours overall).

Also read the first Freshmen graphic novel, which has been in my collection for a few years now.

Still working on The Consolation of Philosophy, but only because I've been having to read that one in a text file and I haven't really been around my computer in a while.

Finally watched How the West Was Won all the way through after years of meaning to. It's one of those films you have to see eventually since it's a classic piece of filmmaking.

While it got a bit boring in parts, I'd still recommend it for the star-studded, American epic it is.

The Hub has been playing Animaniacs all week.

I'm just amazed that it's already 20 years old and it's still hysterical and relevant (despite the fact that they keep referencing Bill Clinton being the current president, but that's for kids to know it's not entirely up-to-date on their own).
