Been going through a lot of graphic novels lately. Tearing through The Boys finally, after all these years of meaning to.

Read the latest released Usagi Yojimbo volume. Just finished Frank Miller's Hard Boiled and 300.

Bought some squash blossoms at the farmers market, stuffed them with ricotta and fried them up.

Just bought some basil-wrapped chevre, so that'll be going in the flowers next. Mmmmm...

Haven't really posted much in this thread in a while.

Here's mostly a bunch of pictures from wandering around California and Arizona. Nothing particularly exotic.

Went to Whitney Portal last weekend with Brandon's dad.

We all walked around in the Kern River last weekend during Father's Day.

Hanging around the renaissance faire in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Walking around San Francisco.

Visiting an anti-evolution dinosaur museum where they insist dinosaurs aren't as old as they are and that humans existed at the same time.

The audacity of it all still pisses me off. You try to pull that crooked shit with the world watching you on livestream? Makes you wonder what they do when the cameras are off.

Understandable. It was bullshit that they were trying to pass something when the deadline was passed on top of the fact that they were disguising a bill that would take away rights as a safety issue for clinics.

Well, in keeping with the thread...

Fuck that the parameters for getting diabetes seem to change weekly. Now they're saying simply skipping breakfast is a recipe for developing Type 2.

I really should get in shape.

I say this while downing an Arizona mint lemonade with 18 grams of sugar per serving (and 3 servings per can).

I know that feeling. It's why I became a master procastinator.

Then again I have no drive to do anything at all any more. I should really get a job; not like it's easy to get one these days as it is. Not like being an extra really pays.

In the meantime, still keeping my one-new-thing-a-day New Year's resolution. It's the only project I've got going.

I'm sure everyone's heard about it by now, but Jim Carrey's been denouncing his part in the latest Kick-Ass film due to the amount of violence in light of the Sandy Hook shooting.

Spoiler:
Good thing his character dies in this one then.

Thing is I've spent the past couple years much more sedentary than in the past. I haven't really gone hiking in a while, though I've been trying to at least walk more lately. I don't drink regular soda any more, and I'm SLOOOOOOOOWLY weening off diet soda.

Now they're saying even just one sugary drink a day for an extended period of time causes diabetes.

I've gone years drinking soda and not eating breakfast, and I'm a HUUUUGE hypochondriac (though I'm fairly certain I'm truly fucking up on this one).

Anyway, trying not to worry about it, but still trying to make better choices.

Yeah, I was more referring to Prop 8. Fight's still going strong for the rest of the country that hasn't legalized it yet.

And, you know, this stuff is still going on in Pennsylvania.

Oh my god, fuck this weather!

It is simply wrong to take a shower at night and wake up stinking of BO from sweating so much.

Not lady-like to admit, I'm sure, but I never said I was a lady.

It's been so humid this weekend and everything so grossly sticky.

Seriously, humidity is one weather pattern I cannot cope with. I couldn't take it the summers I spent in Indiana and Florida (where the air was like soup) and I can't take it even the few days out of the year it's hot and sticky.

Now, I do sort of love it when it's humid, but cold. Still, it sucks walking around and working up a sweat.

This morning, my parents, Bran, and I ate breakfast in the dark at 9 in the morning and still were sweating our faces off and my nightshirt was drench in sweat. It was disgusting.

Belatedly wishing all our American members a happy Independence Day!!

Yesterday was busy. Went for lunch, a walk around newly re-opened Echo Park, climbed the Baxter Street stairs, picked up some Shiner, and headed out to a couple parties to geek out with friends and take slow shutter speed pictures of us playing with sparklers.

So I have to ask, just what does a squash blossom taste like?

Well, when we were eating them with the ricotta I could taste more of the flower, which, oddly, had almost a banana-like flavor to it. It's kind of sweet.

When I made them with the chevre, there was so much more flavor and they were amazing and the cheese was so much more manageable than the messy ricotta, which wasn't holding the flowers shut. But you couldn't taste the flower.

We did Shakespeare in the park last (they did "Macbeth"), and as usual, we had our little selection of meats and cheeses. This time from Trader Joe's. We discovered the awesomeness that was a blueberry vanilla chevre on challah. That was a real dessert.

How fucked up is that? She's worried about breaking her husband's heart divorcing him, but is totally fine with having someone shoot him in the face?

Sorry, it wasn't the whole commercial, but it's a genuine ad for a battery-operated parakeet meant to be a replacement pet for people who want a parakeet but can't handle the upkeep.

I seriously get depressed watching this thing. Like these adults are so starved for something to love that they cling to and pass around this toy they pet and talk to.
