Finished "Killers of the Flower Moon" pretty quickly and then quickly went through "Beyond the Dark Veil" and another book, "Freak Babylon," but the reading's been slow going since.

My To Read pile has like 50 books in it, and I grabbed this one on a WWII spy named Virginia Hall, but it's such a dry book and she's super judgey about sex workers, referring to them as her "tart friends." Trying to get SOMETHING finished I picked up where I left off in this graphic novel "Kings in Disguise," but it's also been super dry.

So now I'm in the middle of five books or so, just trying to finish something.

Well, I anticipate this'll be a shitshow, but here we go...

What was the last...

...thing you ate?
- "Fun"-size bag of Doritos last night. But I've been thinking so heavily about my blueberry muffin I'm planning to devour shortly.

...person you talked to on the phone?
- Therapist. Or Christina. I don't talk on the phone much. Been a while.

...person you e-mailed/private messaged?
- Family friend in Australia, because she's always wanting to message me about books and horror movies.

...person you hugged?
- Brandon.

...person you kissed?
- Brandon.

...time you laughed?
- Talking about the owls we're observing in my livefeed chat.

...time you cried?
- Sunday morning. I just really missed my cat, who died a month ago.

...movie you watched?
- In the theater: "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" ... last year.
At home: "Eli" on Netflix.

...TV show you watched?
- "Lovecraft Country"

...DVD you watched?
- "Death Proof." We were having an internet outage last month.

...song you listened to?
- *Checks the tab playing music off YouTube* "SABATON - The End of the War to End All Wars (Official Lyric Video)"

...book you finished?
- "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You."

...heart-to-heart you had with someone?
- Brandon on Sunday morning. Had something of a breakthrough, I guess you could call it.

...person you met?
- Gonna have to go with the people in the livechat for the owl cams. It's been a while since I've met anyone new, in person.

...person who died in your life?
- Miko. My cat.

...new food you tried?
- Christ, such variety these days. It's gonna have to be the brand of frozen "Detroit style" pizza we got in our Costco delivery yesterday.

...new thing you tried (event, action)?
- I apparently listed five things last time, so ah, fuck it, here's the last five again (UPDATE: 4/24/2016: Ditto UPDATE: 9/24/16 Ditto squared UPDATE: 6/26/17 Ah fuck it UPDATE: 9/4/17 Yup, here it comes again Update: 9/15/2020: Yeah fuck it):
Have not been on top of what I've tried and haven't lately, as I have been in the past, but here we go.
1. Listened to Sabaton
2. Read about Virginia Hall
3. Bought a shirt off Jackbox
4. Watched shitloads of horror movies I hadn't seen before
5. Hung up and decorated a bulletin board in my house?

...time you went around the house in just your underwear?
- Yesterday, running from the bathroom to my room.

...time you weren't fully sober?
- Ever since starting this medication, I can't really drink, so my last "Whuh-oh, I drank too much" was either when we spent the day wandering around Vancouver and then slamming tiki cocktails or drinking whiskey, seeing James Hetfield at the Peterson Automotive Museum.

...you "geeked" out?
- I've been obsessed with watching an owl nest in North Yorkshire lately, and ended up scouring Etsy for barn owl art that didn't make me heave.

...thing you read in the bathroom?
- "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You." *Shrug*

...bargain you made?
- Likely that I found a book cheaper on Biblio than if I bought it new off Bookshop or Amazon.

...thing you planned?
- There's no such thing as making plans this year. I had tickets to a lot of things and so on. The LAST thing I tried to do, before this all went tits up, was go to the Arizona renaissance faire. We were already out there and everything, but decided to just drive home.

...award you won?
- Got movie tickets from my job for essentially getting Employee of the Month for my section.

...piece of toast you had?
- Sourdough a week and a half ago? Maybe?

...present you gave?
- "Just found out a friend of ours has had to go to the hospital for a heart condition. Since we were at the Huntington, yesterday, when we found out, I bought her a pair of socks as a get well gift from their newly put up Halloween section."

I wrote that back in 2017, and the funny (tragic?) thing is, she ended up in the hospital again recently for a (different?) heart condition, and I ordered her socks online and had them mailed to her.

...porno you saw?
- "Shit. No clue. (UPDATE 9/24/16: Same UPDATE: 6/26/17 Uh.... porn?) Honestly, no idea."

Same answer as last time.

...song you sang in the shower?
- "I don't sing in the shower."

Ditto.

...song you had stuck in your head?
- "My vagina is 8 miles wide. Absolutely everyone can come inside! If you're ever frightened just run and hide! My vagina is 8 miles wiiiiiiiiiiiiide!"

...thing you marked on your calendar?
- I've been using my calendar to write down what movies and books I've gone through and when because my days are blurring together, so last thing would be "The Babysitter: Killer Queen."

...errand you ran?
- As part of my exposure therapy, got take-out from the Mexican place around the corner.

...drink you had?
- Bananas foster coffee with a dash of half-and-half. Drinking it right now.

...cool thing you found?
- Probably something on Etsy. Lord knows what, though.

...time you brushed your hair?
- Brandon brushed it last night.

...person you talked to over AIM, YIM, etc?
- Are AIM or YIM even things any more? I've been largely ignoring FB messages lately, though I'm sure Yolanda, in Australia, was the last person I talked with on it.

...thing you bought?
- Uhhhh... *Checks receipts in e-mail* T-shirts from Titmouse.

...game you played?
- Word games on the New York Times' website.

...new place you visited?
- Except for two different days, I haven't left my house in 6 months. The last "new" place would be the really shitty motel I stayed one night in in Mesa, Arizona.

...thing you celebrated?
- Not really sure on that one. Father's Day, I guess, since I ordered a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff from Katz's Deli in New York City.

...dream you had?
- I've been having assloads of bad dreams about going back to work while still thickly in a pandemic.

...thing you dressed up for?
- Put on my costume for the Haunted Mansion's 51st birthday.

...website you visited outside of the board?
- Facebook, YouTube, and like 50 other open tabs for IMDb and Letterboxd.

...thing you really wanted, but couldn't get?
- H'oh boy. This pandemic to be over immediately?

...movie you watched that you thought was underrated?
- Hm. I've lately been more HATING movies that people are loving. I guess it would have to be "Lords of Chaos" since I've heard more complaints from people when I posted that I'd watched it.

...stage (concert, play, etc) show you saw?
- Consulting the photos I've taken and posted, that would be Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony ... a year ago.

...time you visited family?
- With my family: The last time I've seen anyone related to me was when I went to visit my cousin and her family in Sacramento. We went to Dickens Fair.
With Brandon's: Went to Sara and Evan's wedding in Washington in February.

...exercise you did?
- My only exercise has been my stationary bike in my room.

...vacation you took?
- Arizona back in March doesn't really get to count. I guess it would be this whole lockdown since I'm not working, BUT I'm not getting to enjoy it by wandering and sightseeing. This is what would be called a "staycation." I guess Washington in February was the last great adventure.

...text message you sent?
- Not fucking sure.

...picture you set as your phone's wallpaper?
- My lock screen is Laszlo from "What We Do in the Shadows" And my wallpaper is a picture I took of the spooky postage stamps I've been buying.

I went for a drive for the first time in nearly 7 months. While out, I walked into a market -- wearing two masks -- and have been having anxiety thinking about how close people were to my face (wearing masks, but some wearing bandanas or gaiters, which I've read are actually WORSE than wearing nothing, increasing the likelihood of spread.)

I'm about to stop therapy with my next session and I'm nervous about it.

Sorry for your loss. I know this post is nearly a year old at this point, but still.

I feel like I can't do anything right.

I'd share, but it would get long-winded. I tried typing it out, but it just reads as "First World Problems." It's the kind of thing that were I look back at this post in the future, I'd cringe re-reading it.

So again, not much to report. My husband built me a new computer with a loud-ass keyboard, which I love.

Been going out a bit, because my counselor wants me to as part of my exposure therapy. But I'm still mostly housebound.

Thanksgiving has come and gone. It was my first time cooking a whole turkey and all of the side dishes myself. It all actually turned out great.

I hope everyone's still staying safe and well!

Any plans for the rest of the year's holidays? I anticipate I'll just be at home.

Been a while since I last updated. I've been going on little drives at least once a week and I'm able to go run errands now, but I'm still terrified of my parents doing them because they don't take issue with cross-contamination. My dad's the type to drop food on the floor and put it right back on the cutting board or serve it.

Anyway, I had a phone conversation with my boss from the center, just wanting to catch-up since we're friends and I had sent them a Christmas card. I guess COVID ran rampant through the center at least a couple times. We don't have clients coming in right now, it's JUST the employees. One of my co-workers ended up having a stroke and is paralyzed, unable to speak, and not really with it when people are talking to her. Another of my co-workers JUST tested positive and she's a 71-year-old woman with diabetes.

I've been doing what I can to protect my parents. But, you know, people don't like to feel like they're being controlled. I've hit a, "I guess I'll just do my best and hopefully that'll be enough, and if we get it ... we'll just have to cross that bridge when we get to it."

I have not been up on taking my vitamins, but I've heard that Vitamin D helps. My parents take supplements several times a day and go for walks around the neighborhood every morning.

I have hypochondriasis (illness anxiety), so the mere thought of catching this sends me off the deep-end. It's kind of amazing. Before I had my breakdown, I was practically FEARLESS. Bran and I went to Chinese New Year at the big temple. People had masks everywhere and there were so many folks fresh from visiting relatives in China. And then in February we flew to Seattle for my sister-in-law's wedding. Seattle was JUST about to become the pandemic epicenter (which then shifted to NYC -- and now HERE... goody.)

I was going to all my shifts at both jobs. Now I can't imagine setting foot in either.

Good to hear you're in good health, though!

I'm pretty much cooking and baking all this week, but I have to take my parents for a drive tomorrow because they're otherwise going to try to go out themselves and I don't trust them to be careful when 1 in 20 people in L.A. has COVID right now. Jesus fuck.

What a bunch of shit-heels we're surrounded by. One in 20 people have it in L.A. County. Guess where I live.

Bran and I had to do a curbside order down in Orange County a month ago and NO ONE was wearing a mask. People were walking into crowded businesses, no masks, no spacing. Huntington Beach and San Clemente had mask burning parties just before Thanksgiving.

Well... now ICUs are at 100% capacity. Patients are being packed into what rooms they can with IVs hanging a sheet between them.

All this and still people are railing that "It's just a flu with a 99.999999% survival rate!!" and therefore we shouldn't have ANY precautions put in place and it should all just be business as usual. No masks. No distancing.

My parents are both repeat cancer survivors in their 70s with respiratory issues. Dad's also diabetic and mom was recovering from surgery when all this started (taking medication that weakens the immune system so that her body doesn't reject what the doctors put in.) My two jobs are in places that would make me interact with A LOT OF PEOPLE at VERY close range and in tight, indoor settings. As it turns out, COVID raged through my center while I've been furloughed. I worry that I could have brought it home, infected my parents and then it KILLED them.

Fuck this bullshit year.

I'm laughing at the fact that in previous posts I'm annoyed about people flaking and so on. It's hit the point that Brandon and I just say fuck it and go off on our own. And with times we're in, anyway, we don't see ANYBODY.

These were also from a time when I was only working ONE job and had something of any ability to have a social life.

So ... something to complain about that doesn't need to be in the Fuck You thread?

I keep forgetting to make that pumpkin pie I've been talking about. The pumpkins are just sitting there ... waiting.

I keep a few books in the bathroom that I only read when I'm sitting in there. Seems like that's where the most reading gets done.

I read "Breaking the Spell: My Life as a Rajneeshee and the Long Journey Back to Freedom" about this woman's experiences being in this cult. It ended up becoming the basis for the Netflix miniseries "Wild Wild Country," though it leaves out things like the rampant sexual assaults on minors and how almost everyone had an STI of sorts. Her 16-year-old son ended up contracting herpes from a woman who forced herself on him and later in life he developed brain lesions which led to a tumor and killed him.

My current book is called "F*cking History: 111 Lessons You Should Have Learned in School" by someone called The Captain. It's definitely a book to just leave in the bathroom. Every page is a different historical fact and it's not really something you'd keep on your shelf with your more serious books.

Otherwise I'm reading "A Hangman's Diary: Being the Journal of Master Franz Schmidt, Public Executioner of Nuremberg, 1573-1617." The introduction was over 100 pages long.

I've been consuming Coldeeze whenever I feel that slight bit of sore throat. Every time I wake up with one I worry that it could be the beginnings of COVID.

First day of winter yesterday and it was hot as fuck coming out of my house. I had on a sweater and a hat and it was stifling sitting in the car, waiting for the A/C to kick on.

I could feel my skin burning the other day, hanging lights for my mom. I'm sweating my face off and then walk back into the house where the heat is blasting because Mom's "freezing."
