I don't know, at over 19K words, does it still count as a short story?

I've had and still have a Business Premier account with PayPal, so I'm not charged on transactions fees but rather on totals fees, which is actually 2% of total sale. Not bad for me. I'd actually be wasting money if I moved, and PayPal is trusted by more people online...a key marketing point for my company.

I'd like to be an early adopter, but my company thrives on sales through PayPal, so it's not going to happen anytime soon. But, I guess for the everyday consumer, it's a good thing. Still, PayPal preferred for me.

I joined PayPal long before it was bought up by eBay, so it's changed for the better over the years.

Yay! Makeovers! Woo...

Anyway, whatever, it's not permanent, just go with it. If you end up liking it, good. If not, good. Same diff.

Personally, I've never liked volunteering to any kind of makeover whether received or given. I am who I am, and if people don't like it...well, they can fuck themselves.

Whoa whoa...what about the time I broke a thousand posts and became (and stayed) a pompous oaf? What about then. Technically, I believe I'm nearing two thousand what with the posts from before and the new.

So, Elara should be well on her way of nearing close to three thousand...

Okay, so my only motivation thus far has been writing Soldier of Fortune. Well, guess what? It's done. Then the spin-off moving the reader about five years into the future (present) from the first one started materializing while I was bored in Arizona. That one, soon, will be done as well. By soon, I do mean many months from now.

I had a slight following. I still do. So comes my question...

Besides posting and the other junk, what else do you do on here?

I mean, I've been here a while, but it's lost its momentum. The site's not the same as it used to be. So, what to do in the meantime?

If you've read my short story, you can get the motive here:

I'll serve as your lead agents.

LA: The London agent.
SA: The Starbucks agent.
HA: The Handler agent.

I'll serve as your satellite phone conversations.

G1: GOVERNMENT 1
G2: GOVERNMENT 2
IO: INTEL OPS

I'll serve up any e-mails you should receive. You decide the locations, you decide your enemies if I don't introduce them for you, you decide your gadget you acquire as you go if I don't already provide them for you. We decide your mission. We decide whether you pass or fail. We decide your outcome.

Any takers? You can work alone, or in teams, but you'll all be working towards the goal. Ready to immerse yourself in the world of Soldier of Fortune?

Format as:
Agent name:
Specialty (such as hacking, martial arts, espionage, etc.):
Age:
Starting Location (anywhere):

Also, I may occasionally require someone to double as an enemy, so there may be double agents among you. Even though you (as in not in character) can read everyone else's posts, you are mostly to only act upon what your character would know based on interactions...much like reality.

Three cheers and huzzah for the ever wonderfully **withholding rest of words to preserve what little credibility I have** !!

Anyway, you never really lose your programming skills, you just get rusty. Unless you're me who is constantly grilled by the government, then you're just forced to always know something. Just pretend the "Man" is breathing down your neck, and you'll be fine.

If not, come join the dark side...we have cookies!

I ate the cookies again. Just hand out the jar of toads instead.

My eyes refocused under the dim light revealing a familiar face inside the warehouse. My former Starbucks agent. The door closed firmly behind me, and the thick-rimmed glasses man standing behind me, I walked up to my former tracking agent.

He stood, dressed in dark black suit, removing a wire detector from his pocket and waved it around my body. "He's clean," he started, "so, we meet again, Agent X3PH1R. How was Iraq?"

I walked passed him to a stack of envelopes sitting at the table behind him. He followed me, placing his hand upon the envelopes. "I asked you a question agent."

"I know, I heard you. I chose not to answer," I removed his gloved hand from atop the envelopes and placed the envelopes inside my trenchcoat, "I prefer not to speak to people whom repeatedly try to kill me. I'm sorry for your forced separation."

I turned to walk away, but he stepped in front of me, "This isn't the last you'll see of me, agent. Give my best to Agent Demaria." I shoved him aside and walked towards the door.

As the doors unlocked, I turned to my former tracking agent, "I shall be looking forward to our meeting in the future, and this time, I shall be the only one walking away."

He smirked, "I thought you renounced killing anyone ever again, agent?"

"I had, but you're not a person to me anymore," I stepped back outside, "good day." Brandon stepped out of my rental car, and held out his hand waiting for the envelopes. I walked up to him handing over the envelopes, and then we boarded my vehicle and headed back towards my hotel.

"Had fun?" he asked never releasing his gaze from the freeway ahead. The six yellow envelopes sat in his lap, his hands resting over them. A small, clear earpiece left the back of his shirt and trailed into his ear. Faint sounds of radio transmissions cut through the silence in the car. I sat watching traffic move gracefully around me reading the exit signs as we drove.

"My Starbucks agent was there." His eyes widened, but he didn't move. He sat there, and then opened the first envelope sitting in his lap. He removed fourteen 8 x 10 photographs--mostly aerial shots of the lands south of Phoenix--and placed them face down on the backseat of the car.

"Next time you see him..." he began, but I interrupted him, "I terminate him." He merely nodded as he lifted his arm to point out the Broadway exit before I missed it. We arrived at my hotel, where a Phoenix squad car had been waiting for him in the parking lot. He exited the vehicle with the remaining five envelopes, and then leaned into the open window, "Memorize those photographs, and destroy them. I'll brief you again tonight via e-mail. Christine and I have things to do tonight."

I nodded and parked the car, picked up the photos, and returned to my room. After securing the photos under my laptop, I walked towards the ice machine just left of the main lobby. The concierge stopped me to inquire on my "interview".

"Huh? Oh yeah, the interview," I hesitated while holding my ice bucket and still dressed in my "G-man" suit, "it...it went well, I think."

She brightened up, "So, you think you'll get the job?" I shifted from one foot to the other trying to inch towards the ice machine.

"Yeah I do, give me a sec," then I scurried off to the ice machine for much needed ice. I stood in front of the machine watching the ice flood into the bucket when I noticed a small shiny object embedded in the carpet on the floor. It was a component to a micro-tap device. I picked up and ice cube and dropped it on the component before picking up my bucket and making my attempt across the lobby back towards my room. The concierge was busy with another guest, so I slinked effortlessly into my room.

**Cell phone starts to ring, displaying GOVERNMENT 1 on the caller ID...**

Upon answering the phone, you hear:

G1: Agent! I trust you enjoyed your night last night. Anyway, we need you to meet your Starbucks tracking agent for further instructions at the Starbucks in Lakewood Mall. Watch your back while you're there...there may be counteragents about trying to make your upcoming mission difficult.

**Cell phone conversation ends**

Paradox Island is Science Fiction/Fantasy. I've written Sci-Fi before, but it still requires explanation most of the time, so Paradox Island (the series) is the only sci-fi project I'll work on for now. Soldier of Fortune (the series) is probably the only combined sci-fi/military thing I'm ever going to work on.

And, now that I'm trying to covert Soldier into an RPG, I've got my hands full again. On to the user comments!

I've also taken to watching Mexican angsty teenage soap operas...

I don't watch TV much anymore, so I wouldn't know. I never thought I'd ever hit that point when I said I didn't watch TV, but sadly I don't. I watch DVDs now.

My bad for not being in the loop that I don't want to belong to.

One thing though: It's spelled probably. Couldn't annoy me more than to see "prolly". That's just ignorance.

**He steps out of his home, his Starbucks tracking agent watching him under the cover of a few trees across the street. The SA pulls out a cell phone and dials out.**

**Agent Pagano's phone starts ringing again, this time the caller ID showing GOVERNMENT 2.**

On the phone, in a slight French accent:

SA: Agent. You are to meet me in Lakewood, and make sure you're on time. If you're late, you're buying me a capuccino. If I'm late, I'll buy you a new life. How's that sound?

**The phone beeped another call, INTEL OPS on the next caller ID**

On the line, on hold until you click over, a rather flustered newbie from Intel Ops in Washington, D.C.:

IO: Hello? Agent...um...Page-ay-noh, um. What? **Whispering heard in the background** Oh! Pagano. Sorry. It's my first week here **More whispering** Oh, wait, you're not supposed to know that. **More whispering, then you're placed on hold. N*Sync plays softly in the background. The call resumes, this time a more experienced analyst...sounds like Brandon**

IO: Agent? Demaria here. Our satellite photos show that someone has been messing with your car. We know it's a long walk to Lakewood mall, but I'd stay away from your car if I were you. Which I'm not. Anyway, boss says not to make a scene in Starbucks and to shoot your tracking agent out of the tree. **Slight pause, whispering again** Just don't kill him, or mortally wound him.

IO: Oh, and agent? Your covert mission documents will be awaiting you at, what? **More whispering in the background** Nevermind. **Click.**

**Your car appears okay at first, but there is a small beeping coming from underneath the gas tank. Across the street, in a tall tree, the tracking agent's body outlined itself through the thick leaves. He was still on the phone.**

**The Prius' built-in bluetooth connection to Pagano's phone starts to ring. Williams answers the phone, filling the interior cabin with the London agent's wonderful British voice**

LA: Good morning agents; I see from our morning reports that you've managed to temporarily disable your contact. He'll meet you at your initial rendezvous shortly. We'll be sending a little bit of information directly to your Prius, Agent Williams. And this time, Williams, try not to destroy too much, please.

LA: Agent Pagano, I trust you'll be thrilled to know that you once again get to work covertly, since that is your specialty. By the way, I need you both to keep your eyes and ears open for Agent X3PH1R. He's not particularly assigned to anything right now, since we can't find him, and he has gone M.I.A.

LA: If you spot him at all, don't engage him. We don't exactly know what state he's in, but he may not be happy with anyone or anything. You'll both receive individual e-mails upon your conclusion of the meeting with your rendezvous agent.

LA: Any questions?

Sorry Xeo, but you're going down unfortunately. And, no, it doesn't lower sperm count, and even if it did--it wouldn't really matter with me, would it?

Anyway, I still like Mountain Dew...we found hidden messages in it the other night, but I'm not getting into that. Anyway, I, too, don't like a mutation of the Dew yet still drink it. The Taco Bell exclusive Mountain Dew Baja Blast that tastes like carbonated Scope mouthwash...yeah, I like it enough to drink it.
