| Working for Disney is like being in the military, but you don't notice that until you've been there a while. You're right, though, it does look good on a resume...if you work for another Disney company after that. It doesn't really help much anywhere else.
When I went for my interview with Disney Internet Group, they enjoyed the fact that I've already worked for a Disney company. It was a nice plus already knowing the company mission statement and purpose. But, it really doesn't help much at any other job. But, like I said, have fun. Or at least try to, and don't turn into me and the other thousands of bitter ex-Disney employees. It took my two years to stop doing the Disney point, and a year to stop automatically defending them. Ugh. As for the rest of you in Florida and California that think Disneyland and Disney World are cool jobs, THEY'RE NOT!! But, no one listens to me anyway. |

| Because I spent a month at the Magic Kingdom as part of training for a new store opening at Disneyland. I've had experience working at Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, and all four of the individual kingdoms of Disney World.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd still work for Disneyland. Only because it taught me the valuable lessons of marketing manipulation, that the world is inhabited by idiots, and keeps me a shoe-in on all Disney companies for the rest of my life. But, there are reasons behind why the job (it's still a job) was horrible. But, if you're lucky, you'll learn those on your own. | A British company, Compound Security, has invented and manufactures a device that is making both police and shopping centers in the UK very happy. The device, called The Mosquito, emits a high-pitched buzz (18 - 20 kHz) that has been medically proven to be inaudible to adults over the age of 20, but fully audible to anyone under the age of 20. The medical phenomenon that cause age-related hearing loss, or presbycusis, has been proven to affect nearly 90% of adults, starting at about the age of 20.
However, since adults can't hear the buzzing, a few crafty teenagers have captured the tone as a ringtone to receive phone calls and text messages in class. Since their teachers can't hear the ringing or alerts, students can continue to distract themselves without any of their teachers being aware of this. I have included a 20 kHz .wav file if you want an example. Most adults, including myself, will only hear a few clicks here and there as the file plays. Most teenagers may hear something or a high pitched whine, but may not. I was looking for an 18 kHz or 19 kHz sound file, but could only find the 20 kHz sound file. To illustrate a point, here the same file, with its speed cut in half, so that you can hear the file: 20 kHz slowed to half speed. And, here is the same original file, with its speed doubled. Notice is it still audible. 20 kHz doubled speed. Teens: If you hear something, I'd like to know. You might say, "Oh, well, how do we know something is recorded on there?" Well, run the .wav file through Window's Sound Recorder program. The program features a visual representation of a sounds wave structure (hence, why it's a .wav file). As the sound plays, you'll notice the waveforms pass on the small display. That's how we know the file isn't empty or muted. If it were, there would be no waveforms showing...it would be a flat line instead. An in depth article. Another article specifically about the Mosquito technology. | We don't have heat yet. But then, my house is shaded by trees on one side, so it doesn't get pretty hot. It's still nice, at least until summer hits...then it's off to find conventions, malls, stores, and other things to keep cool.
For now, I sleep in all day and am up at night, so I avoid our catastrophic 82 degree days. |

Mosquito Sound Recorded from a Mosquito device. I can barely hear anything in the sound, but if I keep it looping, it starts making me dizzy and gives me a slight headache. And, I'm 24. Can the younger people on the board hear this better version of it? |

| What's your resume (if you have one) look like? Does it reflect that you perhaps are unstable and don't keep jobs very long? If so, that might be why no one is hiring you. Employers look for stability, and if your previous environments reflect that you have quit after working a short time, you might not be winning over new, potential employers.
Also, reasons for leaving employments should always be positively phrased, never negative. Something like, "Lack of opportunities for advancement", "conflict with school/work schedule", "changing career", "found better career opportunities". Never do the hated employer, dropped in hours so left, or anything like that. It also depends on your skills and how you sell yourself during the interview. How well you're dressed. It's always best to be told you have to dress down rather than dress up for an interview. Hell, if you were anywhere near the gaming companies, I'd say go into QA testing. There are many companies looking to pull in a few contract employees, often starting in the $10 to $12/hour range. Create a resume of whatever you have, and post it on Monster.com (if you're over 18), and wait for a few offers to come in. Doesn't hurt to keep an updated resume online. |

Right. I mean, I'm used to high pitched whines. I'm an electronics person, so I hear them all the time. But I couldn't be around this device. It makes me dizzy, gives me a headache, and makes me nauseous. I know they installed it to prevent loitering, but is it just in the US that there's some kind of ethical law against that sort of device? |
