I'm my home office, or that little corner of my room where the desk and clutter is. Or, in the kitchen if I don't feel like being on my computer. Or, anywhere in the house since it is a laptop.

If I'm at work, the I surf the board from my cubicle. If I'm at school, it depends on which class I'm in.

My Logitech uses regular AAAs. It's great for what it does. I don't get the range I used to, but that only because I moved the receiver higher.

Anyway, it does fine for me. I got mine on sale for about $35 when our local Office Depot was going out of business.

But, Logitech seems to make the better wireless mice, both rechargeable and standard battery.

I'd say you got a bad mouse. Targus makes nice portable wired mice, but I wouldn't trust their wireless.

Okay, it only takes me a few minutes to get into my Star Trek uniform. Aside from that, I was trying to execute a quick and dirty recreation of the way The Original Series and part of TNG executed the transporter sequence. It was done by a green screen overlay of a swirling class of glitter suspended in water or oil, and the fade out timed to the speed of the swirl. I, being out of glitter (or gay faerie dust), used cut up pieces of aluminum foil and water, and superimposed one piece of footage over the other as the footage containing myself faded out.

I think it looks better, despite its crapiness, on the ending transporter sequence as opposed to the first one. But, I'm getting glitter the next time around, with a green screen for the glitter sequence, and editing it at school. Windows Movie Maker can't handle green screen sequences.

Also, if you're running out of virtual memory, it means that your hard drive is filling up. Try deleting stuff you don't need to free up virtual memory. Having an e-mail account that is web-based, like Yahoo! or G-mail, can help save stuff to the web rather than have it on your PC if you still want to keep stuff.

So, in addition to changing the memory allocation, which can only help if you have the free space, try deleting some things or uninstalling programs you don't use much or at all.

You just figured this out?

It's best not to dwell on it, or you'll turn into me. And, you don't wanna be me.

Try this on for size:

When I was a Fed, I had three yes/no questions I asked people every single day, several times a day. They were easy too. Just answer yes or no.

"Is your checked bag locked?", "Do you have any film in your checked bag?", "Do you have an undeclared firearm in your checked bag?"

See? Yes or no. Did I always get yes or no answers? No.

"Is your checked bag locked?":

"Like how?"
"It's zippered."
"Can you lock it for me?"
"It's closed"
"Will you open it if I say yes?"

"Do you have...film...?":

"It's in the middle wrapped in my clothes, do I have to take it out?" Hint: It's about to go through an X-ray machine, where it will be bombarded by x-rays and radio waves. If x-rays can pass through clothing, what makes you think it will be safe in the middle of your bag wrapped in a towel?

"It doesn't say anywhere I have to take it out." Hint: While standing next to a sign that tells them to remove their film from their checked bags, it's also printed on their ticket jackets, it's on a sign next to the check-in counter, and it's on the TSA website.

"I have DVDs."
"I have video cassettes."
Hint: Video cassettes are magnetic media, they will not be damaged by x-ray machines. Yet, people still want to remove these and then put them back afterward. No, doesn't work that way. And, DVDs are optical media, also not affected by x-rays.

"Do you have...firearms...?":

(Laugh) "Do I look like a terrorist?" Hint: It's best not to ask a tired, hungry, and greatly annoyed federal agent if you look like a terrorist if you want to make your flight on time, and not spend the night being questioned by police.

"I have a blowdrier." Hint: What?

"I have a (any other small household appliance)." Hint: Is that what I asked? It's running through an x-ray machine. We'll see it.

"What if someone doesn't tell you?" Hint: see above.

"How dare you ask me that?" Hint: I ask everyone that. You're not special. You can't take offense because you're of middle-eastern descent. Everyone is asked the same questions.

And last, but not least, people: DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, EVER MAKE FUN ABOUT HAVING A BOMB, MAKING A BOMB, OR HIJACKING A PLANE OR ANYTHING ELSE REMOTELY ILLEGAL AT THE AIRPORT, IN THE PRESENCE OF AIRPORT POLICE, OR AIRPORT TSA! Your claim will be considered very serious, and even false claims are subjects to fines and imprisonment.

You want more? I got more. Disneyland stuff. Tower Records stuff. Coworker stuff at other places. The gas station, school, home, stores, online, hotel reservations, the board, IMs I get. The world is full of stupid, moronic, ignorant, and idiotic people. You just have to get over it, or you'll turn out to be a bitter bastard ass like me.

Unless you want that, then by all means, go ahead.

Yes, but the amount of room currently on your drives does not show how much space the virtual mem portion is taking up. Since you're running games, and I assume the virtual mem message appears after you're done, the memory allocation is probably being used up during the running of those games. Since you've got a lot of room on both drives, increasing the size allocation in Windows might alleviate the problem. If you've got the room, try going five times the size of your RAM.

Also, you're talking mem here. Speed is only an issue if you have low mem and slow hard drives. Since you said they're out-dated, and you probably don't want to migrate everything to a new hard drive, you could install more memory to help alleviate the use of hard drive memory allocation. Windows is still programmed to use hard drive memory allocation, but, it will speed up processes if it has more RAM memory for use in processing the hard drive memory it creates.

Also, defragment your drive. I know it takes a really long time, but it will improve access speeds.

Well, if you had read the paragraphs below the video, you'd know that I explained that the Original Series and the first few season of TNG did the same thing I did, but used green screens (or "movie magic" as you call it) to facilitate easier fades.

This is my crappy transporter footage, not meant to be cool in any way, shape, or form other than the fact that I have a Star Trek (not Track) uniform.

Posted on 06-25-06 03:48 PM, in What Would Happen If A Giant Meteor Hit The Earth? Link
The Japanese are occupied with this thought, and have created a scientifically-based dramatic computer animation of the aftermath of immediate strike of a meteor several thousand miles in diameter.

While no one would be able to survive, any surviving structures would be left in total desolation. I say it makes for a good story basis. Making Hawking is on to something about colonizing Mars and the Moon...

Here is a translation, taken from the blog to which this video was posted, of what the Japanese narration is saying:

What happens when meteorite collide with each other? We tried to find the answers: Simulation Experiment. We presumed that the collision happened with the earth in order for lucid distance and location.

What happens when meteorite collide with each other? We tried to find the answers: Simulation Experiment. We presumed that the collision happened with the earth in order for lucid distance and location. The diameter of the meteorite is slightly bigger than the breadth of Honshu Japan. The collision point is located at the 3,000km south from Japan in the ocean. The velocity of the meteorite is 70,000km/h. But the meteorite is bigger than we can imagine, so that it appears much slower. In the impact at the same time as colliding. The earth’s crust of 10km in thickness where ground in the earth is composed is wholly peeled off. This is called,”Earth’s crust tidal wave”. There is 1km width of the rock, and it flies to the sky it by the impact. The impact surges to the Japanese Islands and,as a result, the Japanese Islands are crushed. The splinter of the crushed rock easily exceeds the height of 1000Km. After exceeding the atmosphere it reaches space. Afterwards, the splinter of the rock falls again in surface of the earth. The edge of Crater completed by the collision of the meteorite is 7000m in height. It looks like a huge mountain range. The diameter of Crater has 4000Km. Crater is big to swallow a part from Guam to a Chinese continent. But,it was only an introductory chapter of the tragedy that would start in the future…..

The leading part with the accident is seen in Crater when seeing from space immediately after the collision of the meteorite. Seeming as shine to scorching color, and huge mass. The mass of the rock of which this turned into the gas and the name are said, “Rock Vapor”. The amount of the rock that becomes a gas is about 100000000000000kt. “Rock Vapor” extends in all directions on the earth after it swells up like the dome. “Rock Vapor” generated by the meteorite’s having been dropped to the sea located in the south of Japan will arrive at Himalayas in three hours. In “Rock Vapor”, the velocity of the wind is 300 meters. It becomes the hot wind of a terrific high temperature of 4000℃ in temperature and burns Himalayas. In the world covered with “Rock Vapor”, even a thick snow that piles in the coldest place named Himalayas is instantaneously melted. There is no time to make the river and the snow is evaporated instantaneously. “Rock Vapor” will reach Amazon that lies to the other side of the collision of the meteorite in a day. Tropical forests of Amazon cause the autogenous ignition for the hot wind by “Rock Vapor” and the region is burnt up. Tropical forests of Amazon turn into sea of flames in less than no time. Surface of the earth from the collision on the first. It is covered with “Rock Vapor” and it turns into a scorching star. “Rock Vapor” wraps the earth for one year or more, and burns everything up at the terrific high temperature. It is the same as making the sun innumerable near the earth. On the other hand, the accident happens also in the sea. The sea began to bubble violently. The sea boils by the heat of “Rock Vapor”. Tremendous heat of the “Rock Vapor” reduces the sea level at the speed of 5cm a minute. The naked sea bed is relentlessly exposed to the intense heat and melted down like lava. The sea of 4000m in average depth has disappeared one month after the collision of the meteorite. At this point, the earth becomes a star where the living thing cannot live. Thus, the earth turned into the star of the death…

okay.

*deep breath*

THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A CRAPPY REPRESENTATION OF A STAR TREK TRANSPORTER, NOT A FULLY OPERATION CINEMATIC PIECE OF EXCELLENCE. IT TOOK TEN MINUTES TO FILM AND FIVE TO EDIT, THERE WAS NO PURPOSE TO THIS OTHER THAN MENIAL ENTERTAINMENT ON MY PART.

NEVER DID I INTEND FOR IT TO BE THE PERFECT EFFECT. FOR THAT I WOULD REQUIRE THE NECESSARY SOFTWARE TO EXECUTE THAT. I WAS GOING FOR NO BUDGET, CRAPPY LOOK. AND I ACHIEVED THAT. PLEASE READ THE STUPID POST BELOW THE STUPID VIDEO BEFORE LEAVING YOUR STUPID COMMENT.

*steps down*

Although, I expected the immediate posting after watching. We're prone to not reading anything.

Outside of stuff at Sony (that I can't talk about, so don't ask), just the Sims 2. It hasn't left my PS2 in months. I'm really into beating that game, and they've made it so difficult now. I can't maintain 15 relationships, work, get promoted, pay bills, and get married!! And, don't get me started on raising the kids...

Then, there's playing SOCOM: Mobile Recon on my cell phone. That's just fun.

Before Pat could secure himself into a better position, he noticed movement from behind the fallen AeroTrain car. He readied his rifle, but instead felt a presence over his shoulder.

"Hello," said the rebel-garbed woman, "I believe you have a question for me concerning your Isis device you were testing last week."

"How did you..."

"Shh, just allow me to answer your question," she sat down next to the supine Pat and sipped on her tea cup, "your device is quite impressive, Agent Betts, but you've caused more than you think you have."

"How so?" he asked rolling onto his back to stare at the thunderously ominous smoke clouds above.

"Do you remember how Terran was destroyed?"

"Yes, we were educated on that many times. The higher beings felt their experiment had gone awry, and decided to terminate life on the planet. At first, the overall temperatures began to rise slowly over a few decades causing a great flood of the planet. Those that survived were later ravaged by an ice-age, and those that survived that were exposed to extreme periods of famine. After all life had ceased, the planet was left to die, and ultimately, was destroyed by the higher beings." Pat rolled back onto his stomach, "But what does that have to do with my Isis device?"

"I see they continue with the misleadings," she set down her tea cup watching a fellow rebel run across the sand only to be dispatched by Lee across the way, "Patrick, your Isis device has started something that no one will notice for at least 40 years. I will not tell you now, but if needed, you will find out when the time is right."

Pat sat up, "What did I start? When I shot the initial beam into space, did it trigger something disasterous?"

Celeste stood, "I can't tell you now." She stepped off the platform, and disappeared. After reappearing near the AeroTrain car, next to her fellow fallen rebel, she lounged and contemplated the future. Pat returned to his lying position, rifle trained at the ruins. Lee chimed in over the intercom.

"What she tell you?"

"Who?" Pat shifted slightly.

"Celeste," Lee replied, "I saw her over there."

"Nothing important."

"Everything is important with her," Lee shifted slightly, standing at his position, "I think she's the fourth helix."

"Celeste? I don't think so." Pat caught sight of a large Taroxian standing near the exit of the Paradox Island-Mainland SubTrain tunnel. "I believe our new agent has arrived."

Lee turned to face the tunnel, "I believe you're correct." He dropped down to greet the Taroxian. Pat scurried down from the rooftop of the Mass Transit Center, darting across the sand.

Celeste watched the parting of the smoke clouds, glancing at a pale light thousands of miles away from them. "Oh, Patrick, if only you knew what you have started."

She followed the Venetian to his minivan and sat quietly as they drove out of Oakridge towards the Paradox Island-Mainland SubTrain tunnel.

He finally spoke, "You see, dear lady, you are quite valuable right now. Whether you know it or not, you are the best educated person on this planet with regards to the Showers. And, you are the sole tie to both retired agents Betts and Almodovar."

She sat there, "No, I'm not."

He depressed a contact on the steering column, "Ah, but you are. Just not in the way you think you are."

The minivan entered the sparse SubTrain tunnel, relinquishing control to the AutoDrive settings in the tunnel, quickly accelerating to just over 150 miles per hour effectively blurring everything in the dimmed tunnel. The SubTrain travelled next to them, in its own compartmentalized track system, at speeds of just under 300 miles per hour headed for the Mainland. She shifted in her seat, watching the rotating holographic display in front of her.

"It's the meteor from our data streams," she sat up, leaning forward to inspect the data, "but why do you have it?"

"Many people have this data, my dear, but very few can interpret it. There are only two people on this planet that can accurately access this data," he placed his soft hand on hers, "yourself and Server One."

She turned to face him, inspecting his eyes, "Okay, but what does that have to do with Pat and Lee? And, how is this related to the showers."

He turned to face the front of the car, "You'll find out in due time. Now, there is still a little over thirty minutes to our trip. I suggest you try to get some rest. You'll need it."

In TNG, that was a computer animation in the later series.

In TOS, it was a fade method in the green screening.

Central Plaza sat in an eery quiet. An occasional rustling broke the silence followed by a loud thumping upon the ground. She could sense the presence of the trees shedding their fruits, knowing that she was safe from the large oranges--sizes upwards to the diameter of a basketball with the weight of a watermelon.

Her sword glistened in the sparse beams of moonlight from Isis and, in the distance, Usiris. She had wondered, on her way through the plaza, what Pat had been doing the night before in the plaza fountain. But, this was not her current concern.

Her personal communications device began to ring. She removed it from a pocket, activating the device and continued walking.

"Hi hon," her Taroxian's voice filled the otherwise empty Central Plaza, "Pat said he saw you yesterday."

"Yes, he did. How is work going?" she paused briefly to sit below a tree.

"Fine. I'm training a new guy tonight--a Venetian."

Her eyes went wide and her heart sank, "Really? Who might that be?"

"I don't think you've met him yet. He calls himself Jayarre," he spoke softly, obviously tired from the beginning preparations for his shift at the apartment buildings near downtown Edge City.

She sat in contemplation for a few moments. "Listen, hon, I've got to go. I have a few matters I must tend to, but I'll see you again in a few days, okay?"

He nodded, and she terminated the call. "Jayarre," she whispered to herself while slowly walking through the plaza towards the gravel and dust road leading up towards the Erdu Mountains and Meridian City.

only time will tell...

Pat burst from the elevator banks and ran to the front desk where T'om stood talking to another resident. He violently pulled T'om aside.

"Whoa, what's up?" T'om towered greatly over Pat.

"I have the answer. I finally have the proof that he's still working for them."

Tom rolled his eyes and sat back down at his security chair, "Can you drop it, Pat? It was years ago. We're retired now. He's retired now. Hell, it's not even active anymore. Remember the peace treaty?"

Pat huffed and was about to leave, but noticed something missing, "Where's the Venetian?"

"Oh, he called in sick today," Tom leaned his axe against the wall and sat watching the monitors.

"Really. Hey, could I get a BizTransNet please? I've got places to be." Pat stepped outside into the crisp morning air. A vehicle zipped up to his feet and opened its door. Pat stepped in, swiping his car and hitting a few contacts on the panel. Thirty minutes later, he stood in Crystle's driveway. Her little two-tailed puppy, Tyr, happily pushed its nose against the large glass window of the living room, barking at Pat.

He stood in her driveway, looking around him, noticing that she, in fact, was not home. But, it was still too early for the university, and the next showers activity would not return for a few more days. Both Christine and Lee were in San Angeles, and Brandon was at work in Xodan Flats. Ryan had been found, at his home, in Erdu. He knew Rosy was headed for Meridian City. T'om was at work. So, where was Crystle and where was the Venetian.

He fell into a flashback of the nights of the raids, shortly after he had successful execute Jo'Rel. After descending upon two other agents, he was informed that Jo'Rel had a son that worked closely with the Naturists. He paid no mind to the intelligence at the time for it held no revelance to him. But, now, standing in that driveway early in the morning, it held substance.

I don't like the 360, and I tested on it months before it was released. I loved being on the 360 test team, but I just don't like the system. The only reason, so far, that would force me to get one is because I want to play Deadrising. Other than that, if someone figures out some way to unlock 360 discs to be playable via emulator on a PC, I'd prefer that.

Come to think of it...
