Nagis has it right, dollar for dollar an AMD is the better buy if you have a budget to maintain. That's pretty much the way it's always been, actually. AMD is a tad bit less stable, and runs hotter than a comparable Intel, but with the money you save you can get an aftermarket cooler and still come out ahead.

I build these things for a living, so I better know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: spelling mistake corrected

When I was in college at Michigan Tech, we used to build PVC pipe vents in the winter to suck the -20 F air from the outside windows to help supercool our systems. The waste heat coming off them offset the leaks in our weatherproofing seals, so it was a win-win. You just had to remember to put a filter in the pipe, or you'd get snow in your case.

I actually played Custer's Revenge once on my old 2600. After the thing broke and we sold the system and games in a garage sale, I kicked myself for not trying to fix it, the things are worth hundreds now and I sold it and a full set of games and controllers to some kid for $20.

But yeah, back in the day all you needed was $100 to buy the specs for building the cartridges, and you could make any game you wanted and sell it, Atari couldn't stop you. Neither could other publishers if you ripped off their game. At the time, the technology was so new there weren't really any laws against it, which is how Microsoft managed to steal the idea and beat Apple to the punch releasing Windows before Apple got its Macintosh on the market.

But if you think those are bad, you should SEE some of the crazy shit you could import from Japan for the SNES and Genesis. Hell, I've seen an arcade game that's basically Strip Pinball. It's really only recently that people have started complaining about adult content in games, coinciding with ESRB ratings and the increasingly more vocal fundamentalists calling for 'moral values.'

*sigh*

I remember back in the good old days when we were happy just to GET dubbed anime on TV, and damn the quality of the translations and voice acting! Sailor Moon's voice list changed three times during the fist season alone, but did anyone really care?

NO.

Why? Because there are still people in the world who have no idea that anime comes from Japan, or can only watch what's available on TV. Mostly these are the younger kids, but still. People who complain about the quality of dubs often forget that the animation voice-over industry in japan is a respectable, well-paying job that hordes of rabid fans would love to get into. Here in the States, and other countries, doing voices for a cartoon--anime or not--is one of the lowest paying, crappiest jobs you can get, unless you're working for Disney or Pixar.

Yeah, certain dubs are just awful sometimes. But you ever notice they're always for shows that are really long, and being put on the air at rapid pace (Naruto, DBZ, One Piece)? Shorter shows like Cowboy Bebop have more time in their production schedule for voice actors to work with. They can afford to take an extra week to tweak things just right for an episode. But when you have a deadline to meet, sometimes good enough has to be good enough. So before you go complaining about hos dubs suck, remember that we used to get things like Robotech, where they didn't just redo a couple lines, they rewrote the entire damn story and spliced in two more series to try and make it longer!

It could be worse. The Anime industry could crack down on raw providers in japan, and then you'd never have fansubs again. Nothing but the dvds that get released in your country. So if you hate the dub so much, suck it up and watch something else. No one is forcing you to stare at your TV all day. Go read a manga, or better yet go outside and get some sunshine!

If you lack motivation to do your work (God knows I did when I was in college, ugh) set yourself a specific time to sit back, relax, and do something you enjoy. Then, after your reward, do your work. Putting myself into a good mood always made the homework more bearable. Also, find a friend (preferebly one who shares your classes, but they don't have to) and ask them to remind you to do your work. Have them ask you what's been assigned, when its due, the works. Eventually, you'll start doing it just to stop the nagging.

If all else fails, go with my patented 'bare minimum' policy. Always do exactly enough work to keep your grade at least a 2.0, and do more when you feel like it so you can do less when you don't. I didn't have the best GPA coming out of college, it was a 2.6 or something, but hey, that just means you have to sell yourself a little harder. If you had good grades before, one year can't drag you down too much, so just get enough done to pass and hang the rest!

An excellently written series of books, a series I really loved reading (three times for the first couple books, before I got the rest). Best of all, it's a biting commentary on how government interference in the lives of the common man ultimately end in opperssion, stagnation, and eventually revolution. Am I the only one who noticed the parallels between the Old World of the novels and the now-defunct Soviet Union, or worse, the extremist Muslim terroists/fanatics in the middle east? Minus the magic, of course.

Back in college, I marathoned Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's two movies, Serial Experiments Lain, and FLCL in a single weekend. Eva took most of a day, but I had no classes and only took time out to go hit the cafeteria for meals and go to the bathroom. Watched lain until I fell asleep in my chair, then had to start over when I woke up because I couldn't remember which episode I'd nodded off during, and that series has like zero continuity. My neighbor came by with the copy of FLCL he'd just gotten the day before, and I said, "What the Hell, throw it in."

I also finished all of CardCaptor Sakura and it's two movies in 3 days.

I also just finished a double marathon of The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: once in DVD order, and once in bradcast order. Took me all week because of my full-time job, but next week I'm going to do it again except dubbed instead of subbed.

Nonono, the trick is that it's asking you to locate two 'mistakes'. There are two occurences of the word 'mistakes' in the two sentences. It's misdirection.
