I beat it.
- Very Easy
- 9 Lives
- Probably died 9,999 times (infinite continues luckily). I ended up beating the majority of the last handful of bosses with nothing but Speed x2 and rockets usually, since I was always dying.

But man it was satisfying finally beating it. But again, the final boss was painfully easy. Is it just the difficulty I had it on, or is that the case for most Gradius games?

Now I just need to beat III (arcade version, I got the Gradius III/IV game for the PS2 finally) and V. I still can't seem to get past that green-gas stage in V.

I think its safe to say Gradius III(SNES) is the easiest of the series, at least for me.

Once beat Gradius IV within 3 continues, I usually go through about 5-6 on average, exception being the one on the PSP where I tend to do a little worse.

As for Gradius III Arcade on PS 2, good luck, the game is absolute murder on the reflexes, though I know a guy tviks (the Gradius Master as I call him) who can loop that bitch many times over.

As for the last Gradius boss being easy, the difficulty level doesn't matter, tickle the damned last boss with a feather, and it'll blow up (a tradition carried over into Parodius as well), but it's to get to him that's the hard part, his base is absolutely loaded with traps (moving walls, well placed enemies) and enemy fire.

Yeah that base level was very insane, I can't believe I got through it. The spider thing was annoying as hell at first. And you have to love those boss rushes with 4-5 bosses in a row. I love those parts in these games.

Yeah with the exception of Gradius 4 and later (Gradius 2's boss rush if you die on the last enemy I believe you go straight to him after the Zub Rush), Gradius 3, no matter if you're on the last boss of the rush or not, if you die, you restart the boss rush (the game's not considered the hardest shmup ever made for nothing).
