Kaijin: I approve of your post. I'm sitll not sure about what my opinion was about it in cases of rape and other problems, but after reading your post, I think it lies more with your point of view.

Leviathan: ...

...

...seriously?

While you may hate children because they do something stupid, I actually think that it's part of what I enjoy in life.

Now, yes, the parents with a lot of kids are often bad parents, but They're the ones who hould be punished, not the children, and definitely not through partial birth abortion, and most certainly not just because the kid might say, "Yo, G."

But regardless, even if the child has downs syndrome, I believe that if it is capable of enjoying life without causing harm to those not responsible for it, then it should be allowed to live.

Now, yes, it's a huge responsibility for the parents, but you know what? They were treating sex like a toy, and they got burned because they were stupid about it. They should have to pay the consequences, not the child.

Sólrök: Even though you probably won't respond to this post, I still want to adress a couple things...

First off, you say that women who give up their children for adoption feel horrible because they were unable to care for their children like they would like, and unable to be a part of the child's life.

Well, if they choose to abort, that shows that they are unable to care for their child as they would like, and unable to be a part of the child's life that no longer exists.

So, in other words, if they're aborting because THEY want to raise the child, it's only a phyrric victory where the child is the victim. They lose just as much, only someone else doesn't gain.

And many, many people adopt. Far more than most people realize. I'm closely related to at least three families that adopt all of their children, and I know several more. It's around, and it's better than a lot of people think.

Yes, I'm quite serious. I'm not speaking of the "stupidity" children display in their development...that's adorable at its worst, and one of the best aspects of early parenthood at its finest.

I'm speaking of the raw, unbridled stupidity they display later in life, a result of upbringing/conditioning/genetic imposition.

The simple fact is that human beings don't die often enough.

We have no control methods left in play. Survival of the fittest is a distant memory, and as a result we have the decidedly unfit wandering the streets en-mass drooling and mumbling incoherently about sponge-bob and trying not to wet themselves (not talking about children, either).

A fetus that, in adulthood, will be capable of doing nothing but drawing resources from the pool and throwing away the box from my big-mac should be aborted without question.

Further, i strongly believe that all expecting parents should be given a complete round of genetic and IQ testing. Don't have the muster, little johnny gets the dust-buster. It will cost less than the resulting paperweight of a child.

You're not punishing the child by aborting it in cases of "sex as a toy", rape, or "the phone rang and it startled me". You're punishing the child by allowing it to be raised by these people. The majority of rape victims feel a -strong- measure of animosity towards the resulting child. Unplanned pregnancies are, statistically speaking, most often the result of careless sex by teenagers...and a 16 year old isn't generally responsible enough to take care of a cat, let alone an infant.

Adoption? There are many, many children adopted by warm, healthy families. There are infinitely more who are not. Who bounce from abusive foster home to state run institution for the majority of their pre-adult lives.

In closing...when in doubt, suck it out. Better for the ever expanding population, and 99.9% of the time better for the gene-pool.

I couldn't agree with that statement more, at least as far as the more civilized countries are concerned. Many others, on the other hand, continue to suffer as we head out for a Big Mac (or Whopper, in my case). I employ much empathy for those who are unlucky enough to be born in an under-civilized country or one that's war torn. Somebody from a place like that would gladly do anything for a house over their head and enough security to know that they'll be able to wake up in the morning alive and well. On the other hand, we have people in the US that waste their lives by avoiding working, cheating the system (faking injuries for worker's compensation), doing drugs and spiraling downward, wasting food by throwing away that last 3/4 of that burger that they just couldn't stuff down their throats instead of saving the rest for later, etc...

I hate a great majority of our society, if you couldn't already tell. Even at its worst, the American lifestyle is probably the easiest in the world, whether you're homeless (our local bums make around $500 for panhandling for a few hours) or you own an estate that can turn into a giant jet and freaking fly. <‌‌/walloftext>

Leviathan, while I can fully understand your point of view, I'm going to have to disagree with it. If it were true that you would be giving thoes children a quick way out of a stupid world, I just can't see it.

My biggest issue is how you're saying it's the parents fault for the child's stupidity.

My parents are farthest from the smartest peopel out there. My mother is a hardcore christian, and my father likes nothing that dosn't involve money. In logical sense, that would make me a money grubbing christian who hates all who have a diffrent view then me. (Call me a jew, and I'll get pissed. Not the time or place.)

I was given a home by them, yes, food by them, yes, a place to sleep by them, yes, but I taught myself my own values, my own way of living. I have no religion, I hate money with a passion. I have an entirely different view point on life then most people, one that someone else couldn't have taught me.

Yet by doing thing, I grew into the person I am now. Not by my parents, but by watching what my friends went through: what they did, how they were treated. I followed what I believe to this day, to be my integrity.
(Integrity: Doing what you feel is right)

Thoes who end up going "Sup, Yo, G dawg!" were not (mostly) taught that by their parents. That was taught to them by the individuals around them. They thought it was an amazing concept, and gave them a peice of individuality. While I dont' agree with it, since I have my own, I have seen thoes "Gangster wanna-be's" be some of the most intelligent people I've ever run accrossed. Even if I do want to strangle them every time they speak.

Quite a bit of text for a floating thought, wasn't it? Hah.

Ok, while this is some nice discussion, I think that it would be better off in it's own thread since this one is nearly a year old. Feel free to make a regular thread on abortion but for now this one is done.

Reopened for a comment. No one else post.

EDIT: There we go.

I'm going to keep this closed, but for future reference, age doesn't bug me much in this forum. I mean, let's think about how often this forum gets threads?

I do, however, feel that this topic could use a restart for various reasons, so I'm not going to override the close.
