Finals are coming up soon for college. What are some good methods for keeping cool during the final exams? Anybody else going to college at the moment?

Ask for study guides, they help SO much!
If you had midterm exams, take cues from how the teacher did those... was it book or lecture that was more important. Good chances are that whichever it was, it will be for the final as well. Books can be harder than lectures, but I have found it is rare for a professor to value what they say less than the textbook so you shouldn't have to worry about that so much. If your teacher makes a point of repeating a fact multiple times, mark a start by it in your notes because chances are that it will prove important. On my recent midterm for PA history I missed a perfect score by one point because I didn't mention that William Markham was a cousin of William Penn (something she had mentioned like fifteen times). |

How to keep your cool? Meditation and a little supplement called L-Theanine right before the exam.

Originally posted by Nelrith Not no more I'm not. ![]() Near the end of my schooling, my finals weren't so much tests as they were having to write 15-page research papers or doing some sort of project that involved giving a presentation and designing a bunch of shit and handing them in on the day we were scheduled to have our final. Pretty much everything Elara said. Ask for study guides or for the professor to review what would be on the test. If they won't do it for the class see if you can talk to them during office hours. Seriously, though, get them to see your face and recognize you. I honestly think some of my professors may have inflated my grades here and there because I participated in class discussions or went to talk with them during office hours. I'm serious when I say unless it's like a math teacher where they'll grade you by the exact number you got wrong, grading is incredibly subjective. Elara's completely right that the professor will take what they say as the correct answer as opposed to what's in the book. Matter of fact, I've aced many a college course without cracking open the book because I actively took notes on everything said and written on the board. I've personally never relied on or sought out study groups, but I imagine they're handy. I will say this, though, if you kind of get the topic and you're explaining it to someone else it makes a lot more sense. For some reason you learn more from teaching than being taught. I've heard people claim that if you cram the night before a test you'll dream about it and work out the things that don't make sense while you're asleep. That's never worked for me. If ever I do that, I end up with stress dreams and night terrors about missing the test entirely or fucked up shit that makes no sense to anyone. |

Originally posted by Nelrith Not at the moment. I need to save up for next semester. As for helping to keep cool, don't stress too much. Make sure you're getting the proper amount of sleep and eating properly. It sounds simple and pretty obvious, but a lot of people don't do any of this around the time of finals. Also, look into Omega 3 if you have problems focusing while studying. I started taking it a few months ago and it helps a LOT. I also have severe ADHD, but hey. It still helps. |

That's better than feeling the opposite, heh. Hope you did well!
I suck at test taking, always have and always will I'm sure. Whenever I cram studied, I'd usually end up doing worse than if I just winged it. ![]() |
